Very fruity, very tasty, but bad for the teeth. A lot of varieties today.
Stacey - August 12, 2008 - Report this comment
The apple ones were the best!

apricot did it for me! Yummy
FoxyFishy - February 04, 2009 - Report this comment
These were yummy, but the plastic backing was so hard to get off! They weren't nearly as soft as they should have been though, definitely more like chewing plastic.

A childhood staple for me. Does anybody remember when they desperately tried to keep Fruit Rollup sales in the early '90s by introducing those cut out shaped ones? With the impossible to peel backing, those shapes would never come out and you'd end up with a big mess of torn up fruit plastic. Don't they make edible panties out of something similar to Fruit Rollups??

I loved these as a child but now they are disgusting to me.

Stacey, the apple was the best! I remember it was the 1st flav. I tried when these things came out when I was in kindergarten. I can't find apple anywhere. :(

The semi-popular kids would have these in their lunchboxes. Someone started a fad where they would wrap the candy around their thumb and suck on it...all day. Gross.

My favorite was cherry. I loved cherry Fruit Rollups! I did the thing where I wrapped it around my thumb, too. LOL Now they do all kind of weird stuff like cutouts and tattoos and they just aren't the same anymore. I wish I could have some of the original ones that didn't have all kind of crap added to them.

I ate these fairly often as I kid and still do on a rare occasion. They're sort of plastic like in texture, but still tasty, and possibly best consumed in wad form.
Keith - May 09, 2010 - Report this comment
I remember when these actually had bits of real cherry, strawberry, apple, or apricot in them. They were real fruit leather, not the candy-like concoctions they try to pass off as fruit today.

fruit roll up are my secret obsession! me and all of my friends love them but our parents wont buy them for us because there so unhealthy, so sometimes we all go to the mall without our parents and stock up on fruit roll up to keep in our lockers at school!

Yes! Cherry fruit roll ups are the best! I remember having chicken poxes and my mom let me eat as many as I wanted. Does anyone remember the little packages of fruit roll up chews they use to make? What were they called?
patti - January 21, 2011 - Report this comment

Ailey - May 18, 2011 - Report this comment
If this isn't a childhood staple I don't know what is. They do have some interesting flavors today but nothing beats the strawberry!

I miss the old fruit roll-ups from the 80's. I won't even buy the crappy ones they make now because there is no fruit in them, just a bunch of artificial ingredients.
Julian - June 30, 2011 - Report this comment
I remember when they had the ones with the cut shapes in the 90s. What the heck was the point of those? Were you supposed to punch them out and play with your food before you ate it or something? I tried them once at the house of a kid I was babysitting for, because I remembered them from when I was a kid in the 80s and wanted to see if they still tasted the same. Either my memories were wrong or they changed the recipe, because they tasted like unpleasant, overly sweet candy and not much like fruit at all. (Fortunately, Trader Joe's sells fruit leather that is actually made of fruit and actually good, so my dried fruit needs aren't totally unfulfilled nowadays.)

The ones I had as a child actually tasted like real fruit but now they taste artificial and too much dye is added, yuck! Strawberry was the best.

I have been searching everywhere to try and find the original fruit rollups from my childhood. No one sells them anymore. I used to be able to find them in select stores but not anymore. If anyone knows where to get the ORIGINAL ones, please contact me at (972) 480-4781. Please, I will buy large quantities.

I remember, in the 80s, buying the grape flavored roll ups at my neighborhood Luckys. You would find them in the produce section and They were more like fruit leather, not the taffy sugary kind of today.
Aliki - July 18, 2014 - Report this comment

Yes, if anyone knows if these r still around, let me know. Apricot was my favorite, but like grape & cherry too. Nothing like them. I tried Joray, but no comparison.

The fruit leather that i had when i was a kid was always sold singlely in the fruit and veggie aisle back in 80's, 90's.I think its the Stretch Island Fruit co, but i don't know. The wrapper I think had a picture of a jeans back pocket surrounded by fruit
Jonny - January 08, 2015 - Report this comment
Man the ones they make today suck! I use to remember real strawberry seeds in the fruit roll ups. They were more tangy too. I use to wrap it around my finger and suck on it
