Description
I remember it during the late 70's and early 80's. It was chewing gum made by the Gatorade drink people. It was bright green & tasted like Gatorade. I think it maybe also came in grape flavor. Stopped selling around 84 maybe

Gatorgum came in both green flavor and orange and was a refreshing change from the super-sweet flavors normally associated with gum of that era. Gatorgum had that classic Gatorade sub-citric acid sourness and was a blast to bite into. If you like Sour Patch Kids, you would have loved this gum.

"The gum that makes your mouth water" I believe that was the slogan

I remember going to my family's beach house in the early 90sand buying Gatorgum in an orange wrapper, I can't recall the green (I was a little one in the early 90s!). But I can remember buying it in at least 2 different occasions, so at least in south eastern North Carolina, it stuck around til then.

I remember both flavors, orange and the traditional lemon-lime. If I can recall, the flavor lasted about 2 minutes and then it was like chewing rubberbands.

quench gum is a little similar. I'm chewing it now. mmm...

Man I used to LOVE this gum. The texture was a little extra rubbery, but that was part of what made it unique. I remember lemon lime, orange, and fruit punch myself. Did fruit punch not go mainstream? I know we had it in CALI! I can't believe gatorade hasn't brought this gum back.

Orbit Lemon Lime is reminicent of the gum, but not quite there. Closest I can find.

marshalmeg - March 29, 2009 - Report this comment
This was my favorite gum back in the 80's and early 90's. I loved it, though it did get rubbery pretty quick. I remember lemon lime (my fave), orange, and fruit punch. I'm from KY and we did get the fruit punch flavor so it ended up outside of CA! Still want the lemon lime, I'm going to have to look for Quench.

I use to looove the green kind..A few years ago in Illinois I was at a gas station and I saw a pack. I screamed and everyone looked at me like I was a freak. (Mind you I am in my 30's.) I think I bought right at 10 packs that day. I haven't seen it since. :(

I would buy the lemon lime, put the whole pack in my mouth, and be in sour overload heaven for about 30 seconds. That's how long that wonderful green death flavor lasted. About 30 seconds. ;)

Oh my God lol I can't believe it....I had distant memories of being a child and loving Gatorade gum...I recently asked my mother and she said there was never such a thing, and then I found quench gum which I thought was the same thing from childhood, until I found this forum and now realize that I wasn't crazy, it really did exist...and each piece was like in the shape of tiny bricks, individually wrapped lol.....and I saw someone post about the long gone orange bubblicious flavor...If anyone can help me locate Gatorade gum or a pack of the orange bubblicious, pleaseee write me at skyliteentertainment@gmail.com. I might even be able to get you on tv...write me! Brett

Dude, a bunch of us were just talking about Gatorgum at work and it brought back a bunch of memories. Great to see it's doing the same here. We should totally bring it back!! Someone get on the horn and tell Gatoraid to let us all re-live our youth.

When I was about 5 or 6 years old and before every baseball game, I would buy a pack of the lime-green gatorgum. It would last about a half inning then I would hit the gatorade bottle with it sometimes to give it that extra punch. Man they realy should bring it back. They could add vitamins and electrolytes.

I used to buy this stuff before little league games as well. If I remember it was a bit expensive for the little amount you got(about as much as wrigley's, maybe a little more) but it was really good flavor-wise. I liked the lemon lime and the orange equally, always have loved tart stuff. Both types had that vitamin C chewable vitamin sort of taste. It did run out of flavor fast and get really hard to chew but the flavor made up for this.

GatorGum came out in 1981 or 82 i think. Wikipedia claims it was discontinued in 1989 but i've talked to too many people who are sure it was still around in the early 90s. Infact, i think 1987-89 may have been around the time the fruit punch flavor was introduced because it definitely wasn't one of the original flavors. I dunno, i just don't think the people here were mistaken...

I could never get more than 20 chews out of a piece of Gatorade gum. It tasted so good, I had to swallow it! I'm serious it was just so intense to me. I loved it!

I loved it in the '70s -- the lemon-lime especially -- one bite & thirst was good & quenched with a RUSHof saliva bursting out from under your tongue! The BEST! I've tried those suggested here =- not even close to what I'm seeking -- I'll buy it -- how much, including shipping to Canada? My email is cyberpope67(AT)yahoo(DOT)com

I loved this gum. First time I tried it I was about 4 or 5 (so this was around 1982 or 83). I had the orange gum and loved the taste. I also tried the lemon-lime one and didn't like that one as much, but it was still pretty good. After a while I couldn't find it anymore, but then around the late 80s I started finding it again - not just the orange and lemon-lime, but also fruit punch. This was in NY. I liked the fruit punch but I think my favorite flavor was always the orange.

What a great gun! Love the ad, too. That's what people and situations on ads should look like. This gun had such a nice taste.

Totally agree! Great gum and this product has people on the ads that looked like real American.
Randle - February 13, 2024 - Report this comment
Put more real Americans on products. This gum was some of the best. Why is it gone?

Some dad's hated gum because it got stuck in places like the driveway. They called my wife and I "The Cookie." We were in The Elks Club.
