Description
It looked similar to a pretzel rod, except the outside was obviously granola and it had a thin center of a nougaty-type substance.

I'm happy to see that there are other people who remember these. I loved them...well at least the caramel flavor. I remember there were three flavors: caramel, chocolate and one other which I can't remember. I don't think that they were made for that long of time. I wish they would come back out of that someone knew the recipe so I could make them...lol.

Granola clusters were awesome. I didn't think I'd be able to figure out what they were b/c I didn't remember the name, but it came right up. They were so good. I'd eat the outside & then have a long nougat stick. Whoever made them needs to bring them back.....and Oreo Big Stuffs, the giant double stuff Oreo!

I also remember these short-lived delights from elementary school. I wish I knew who made them and if they are still in existence anywhere. I would pay anything to try one again, just once... Mmmmmm, caramel.

Granola clusters were made by Nature Valley. Like so many things that were truly good, like guia camph green ointment (for chest colds) and grape tang for camping (you could never mix it wrong), they of course are no longer available. Why??? Who knows...

I remember the commercial jingle- "Granola Clusters- an answer to candy". These were as close to a health food candy that actually tastes good as you will ever get. Bring back granola clusters!

Can you be more specific on the description of the granola clusters. What do you mean by pretzel rod?

I actually worked on this product back then. They were made by General Mills Inc. under the Nature Valley brand. Basically the inside was nougat which is made from sugar and then rolled in oats which was the granola claim. Don't kid yourself that they were health food, they were much closer to candy.
