Description
Please, someone say you remember these! No one believes me!!! They were Christmas trees made out of green ice cream with tiny little rainbow ball sprinkles on them. I can't remember what flavor the ice cream was, but you could get them every year at the grocery store. They were delicious!

I remember Vanilla Ice Cream with a green Christmas Tree down the center. You would slice the Half Gal. and everyone got a tree. I would always eat the vanilla first, leaving just the green tree. I have been lookind all around here (PA) for it but have not been successful. My hunch is that so many companies have changed the shape of their containers that they can't do it that way now. Pity

Yes! I used to get them every year at christmas, I thought I was insane because nobody else had them! The grocery store I went to also had red and white Santa Claus shaped ice cream that was about the same flavor. I'd say that's probably one of the most nostalgic things from my childhood.

I live in the south now and I can not find them anywhere. There used to be green mint trees, and snowman and santas that were more of a neapolitan ice cream. We also do not have soft serve chocolate ice cream in the south. I have no idea why since Wendy's sell chocolate frostys all over the country. We have dairy queen but not chocolate ice cream. If you ask someone that grew up in the south they think you are nuts when you ask about the ice cream trees or chocolate soft serve ice cream!!

Yes. I grew up in Michigan. These were seasonal ice creams. The Christmas Trees were mint-flavored. The sugar cookie bears had cookies 'n' cream ice cream I think. I also remember the Santa Claus faces and my favorite: the gingerbread man sandwiches. I don't know if they are still available, but if so, I'd check stores around the holidays, as that's when they used to be sold.

Yes, I remember the green Christmas tree ice cream with the colorful round ball sprinkles I also remember the snow ball ones, it looked like a snow ball and it was covered in coconut. I was very young...maybe around 3 or 4 years old.It was in the late 70's in Houston Texas. That was the last time I ever had one. I thought it was just a part of my childhood imagination but now that read this blog...I know I am not crazy! LOL Those things were like a slice of heaven to me back then! I hope to find them again!

Yes, I too remember them as a child in the 70's and 80's here in PA. I've only ever seen them sold at our Weis grocery store. They brought them back for a few holidays a couple of years ago, so I was able to share them w/my young son but have not seen them sold in the past 3 years, including this year. Last year I emailed Kemps and inquired about them myself but never got a response. So far this year, I've only seen the Trees, Snowmen and Santa. I have not seen the Bears(ccokies and cream flavored) nor my favorite, Gingerbread Men.

Have looked for these every year- loved them as a kid growing up! Here in Alabama ours was made by Barbers & they don't make ice cream anymore. If anyone finds them in the south please let me know!

A supermarket in Pittsburgh, Kuhn's Quality Food Stores, carries both the trees and snowmen and I just purcased some. The treats are made by Dean Foods Co., Franklin Park, Illinois 60131, phone #1-800-395-7004.

There are a lot of different brands out there but I believe the original ones that the poster is talking about are by Kemp's. There are Frosty Trees and Winter Snowmen
JG - January 25, 2014 - Report this comment
Stop and shop distributed them in the northeast. The originals are made by Kemps. You can find both the trees and snowmen on their website. http://www.kemps.com/freezer/novelties/

I remember those! My favorites were the snowmen with the chocolate and vanilla ice cream. I was trying to describe them to a friend who never had them as a kid and we looked and looked for them last Christmas. Taking notes for 2014!

PLEASE someone sell these in the south. I have told my children about these for over 20 years. I look for them every year and have not been able to find them. :`(

Giant in northern Virginia had the snowmen this year and maybe the trees. They were on clearance a week ago when I went there. The best was the gingerbread men though and haven't seen those in years. I can't believe I found all these comments, what an impression these made on all of us as kids.

There is a group on Facebook trying to get Kemps to bring back the Gingerbread Men ice cream sandwiches... And hopefully someday the Chilly Bears too. There is a picture of the box on the site. :-)

I remember getting the vanilla flavored trees with rainbow sprinkles from Safeway as a kid. The ones made by Kemps and Deans are unfortunately not the same. :(

They have the green mint tree ice creams with sprinkles at Target under Market Pantry brand this year, called Holiday Trees. They taste just like the ones when we were kids!! Yum! Had to buy some!

So how do you serve them at a party? On a plate with a fork? Or straight out of the bag, the way I just did?
