Description
Kentucky Nuggets were, of course, KFC's version of McNuggets. Their horseradish sauce was about the same strength as today's Arby's "Horsey" sauce.

I totally miss these! They had more seasoning on them and were way better than the Crispy Strips that replaced them.

I miss these myself. I really do wish that KFC would bring these back (for starters), and/or come out with some Chicken Strips with the Original Recipe seasoning on them, for the Crispy Strips never were (or will be) as good as those nuggets.

I loved the KFC chicken nuggets. I really wish they would bring them back on the menu. They were the best!!!

These were the best chicken nuggets ever. I ran into an executive with KFC a couple of years ago. I gave him absolute hell for ever discontinuing them. He promised to let me know if any place in the country still sold them but I never heard from him. I believe they are still being sold at KFCs in England.

Loved these nuggets. Put them between a KFC biscuit with the bbq sauce it was like heaven. I was pregnant when these were around and would cry if I didn't get them daily. What a craving...

My girlfriend and I are considering a weekend trip to Essex, Maryland just to visit the Kentucky Fried Chicken to have those awesome Kentucky Nuggets. We live in Michigan. What the bloody hell were the executives at Kentucky Fried Chicken thinking when they discontinued Kentucky Nuggets?

I, too, love the nuggets and miss them dearly. I was just in Maryland last month - wish I had known about the Essex KFC! However, in the summer of 2004 (I know, been a few years ago), I was traveling through Kentucky on I-75. I stopped at a KFC somewhere, and to my surprise/delight, I found the nuggets! Unfortunately, I cannot remember the town (sorry), but I thought it might be nice for everyone to know that the nuggets *may* still exist in more than one KFC.

they brought these back in 2010 at the KFC in Manchester, CT near the buckland mall. They are great, taste just like original recipe but none of the other kfc's in the area have them. will have to check next time i am over there to see if they still have them or if they stopped selling them when the original boneless filet came out
Russell - January 14, 2011 - Report this comment
Stopped over at KFC in Manchester today after thinking about the nuggets and they don't have them anymore, just the strips and boneless filet. I am going to keep asking about them everytime I go there, maybe they will bring them back if there is interest. They tasted a lot like the boneless filet or origina recipe tenders but had more of the coating taste since they were small and were only 2.49 for 6

I lived on these when I was a kid! My mom had a hard time getting me to eat anything when I was little except for these. Ugh, so miss them!
Ron - December 21, 2012 - Report this comment
I do not believe KFC still uses the original seasoning anymore. One might speculate that it is due to cost savings and/or the MSG scare. Internet searches seem to indicate that the current seasoning is salt, pepper and flour. If true, bringing Kentucky Nuggets back today might prove disappointing. I sure miss them though. I box of twenty sounds wonderful right now.

great opinions all. Love your comments Ron and Yvonne, but expcially Russell. Which football team do you support in Manchester, Russ?

The wonderfully tasting nuggets were the only thing I ate at KFC. I worked there and I met my husband there. So I had the best of both worlds. I worked night shift so I boxed me up a 20 pc and 2 jalapeños and when I would get home. Watch a movie and eat my tasty nuggets. I sure do miss them. I could never comprehend why they would do away with such a good investment. I want my life back. I want to live again!! (It would be a wonderful life).

I think that the only KFC still selling Kentucky Nuggets is @ Granite Falls, Caldwell County, NC.

Kentucky Fried Chicken chicken nuggets.....OMG once I found them I never left them. I lived in Hawaii and when they brought those out, I thought surely I died and went to heaven!!! They were SO flavorful and delicious! Once they brought them out I would pick up 2 20 piece boxes and the kids and I would head off to the beach. Oh how I miss them!!! Please Lord, make them bring it back.

Sad to report that the KFC in Essex, Maryland that did indeed still carry the Kentucky Nuggets, closed several years ago, so not sure what place is left in the United States to get them. But KFC still owns the recipe as they are still on the Australian KFC menu online.

I just watched a YouTube video of a guy in Australia eating em. He doesn’t seem to be enjoying them as much as I did as a kid. A 12 piece with their sweet and sour sauce & mashed potatoes n gravy after a baseball game was heaven. I guess they got rid of em when everyone started going crazy over things being 100% chicken and they def weren’t, but I don’t care. I wish we cud still have em around. Only Australian’s get to enjoy them today. Here’s the video https://youtu.be/Ae96whsZR6k

These were the best and I would make a vacation out of going to get some if I knew of any KFC that still sold them. They need to bring these back.

The kfc in clinton Il served the nuggets until the late 90’s. One of the last places I could find them. So sad when they stopped serving them. Loved the original bbq sauce they had too, not a fan of honey bbq.

Growing up, my elementary school was located right next door to a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken in those days!). One day in 3rd grade, I realized I had forgotten my lunch at home and began crying quietly in class. I was a very new student, very shy and a very picky eater. The idea of having to go through the hot lunch line was terrifying to me - back in those days, the lunch ladies made you eat everything on your your tray before you could go out to recess, and I just knew I would never be able to force down the limp green beans and slimy peaches that accompanied the mushy ravioli. Well, my teacher - a wonderful man named Greg Thack - snuck out while the class was in gym and bought me a KFC nugget meal for lunch. I was so surprised and blown away by his kindness, and the other kids in class were SO nice about it and patted me on the back saying how awesome that was for him to do. That is one of my best memories of childhood.

On days when I did the 2 mile walk home from my after school work I sometimes stopped at the KFC next door and got the box of 20. There were not many left by the time I got home. They were too good, the taste beat any strips and nuggets the fast food joints have now. Probably good that they don't have them anymore since I do not walk 4+ miles a day anymore!
