for field trips all the cool kids got their parents to buy them lunchables

So popular, but tasted terrible. I remember way back when they came out and it had just crackers, cheese and meat, no drink or dessert. The crackers were stale and flakey, the turkey meat was chewy and had some slick coating. The cheese was alright. The new lunchables (pizza, hamburger, tacos) are much better!

I used to like the ham ones before I stopped liking ham. Now, the newer ones just look gross. I tried the pizza one. Yuckie!

I remember taking these for field trips and whatnot, I always talked my mom into buying me the Deluxe kind, which came with 2 kinds of crackers, 2 kinds of meat, which was the thin-sliced deli-style meat, 2 kinds of cheese, and a fun-size candy bar. Still had to bring your own drink though. The Deluxe type would probably still be a good snack for work or whatever.

Turkey and cheese were the best and I still buy them now,you can actualy get a four pack but doesn't come with candy or the drink just crackers and cheese and meat, the new stuff they came out with pizza etc. they can throw that crap in the garbage and go back to the drawing board

Ugh, the cheese in these things is the nuclear waste of the dairy world. Assuming it contains any dairy.

what you got if your parent dident care enough to put your stuff together. It was shameful to have one.

I used to bring these to school for lunch back in 1989 (I was 7) until kids in my class made fun of me for bringing them lol. I guess I was one of the first at my public school to have them :).

The Deluxe Lunchable came with a little packet of something, I think it was dill sauce. The packet had two compartments and you would have to squeeze them together to get it to come out. Anyone remember that stuff?
neoasura - January 06, 2009 - Report this comment
I think the packet stuff was a dijon mustard. The deluxe also came with a little mint. Its too bad they dont make the Deluxe version anymore. It's like the "adult" verson lol.

i'd always beg for these when i was a kid, but then when i'd get it, the meat was all knuckley and gross and i never liked it as much as i thought i would.
SZA - January 19, 2009 - Report this comment
Ah! "Knuckley" - what a gross way to describe the mysterious meat slices that came in these godforsaken things. But you are SO right on, Court!

My dad use to buy theses. I didn't liek them. I took them to school and camp with me.

I still eat them. They are decently price. Much better than getting fast food which would contain more fat and calories. Lunchables keep getting criticized for being high in fat and calories, but it's a great start for portion control and you would end up eating more fat and calories from a fast food restaurant.

I remember when they first came out I would always get the roast beef and ham version that came with muenster and cheddar cheese, dill sauce, a little yellow napkin and an Andes mint. I loved those! Now they not nearly as good, and they have no sauce.

I've had Lunchables for school lunches since the first grade. They are still delicious to this day.

In the seventh grade, my mom left, so my father would buy my brother and I Lunchables in BULK. I had one almost every school day for a year. Crappy Pizza with a almost cracker crust, And the other variety I got being the "Nachos". The "Nachos" Were nickle sized corn chips that came with small containers of nacho cheese and salsa. I never had enough cheese or salsa to accommodate the chips. I wouldnt feed those meals to my dog.

I second the notion that the deluxe lunchables were amazing!!!!!!

When I was a kid, lunchables were not shameful. If you had lunchables for lunch you were super cool. My mom would never buy them.

Heck, I'm 36 and still eat them. Bologna and the turkey with wheat crackers are the best ones. Only other one I tried was the ham but couldn't get into it. I don't bother with the pizza or whatever variety they got.
Alana Cicchi - January 04, 2011 - Report this comment
Something abt these is that when they first came out the meat and cheese ones still had condiments inside them, like mustard or horseradish packets, along with the crackers, and didnt have drinks and desserts, and I preferred them then. Now there all just sweets capri sun and tacos and stuff.I always liked the cracker and cheese meat combinations.I like the Oscar Meyer ones better NOW because there more like the original type foods, two meats two cheeses, Etc. NO condimeants anymore in any. Sucks

I agree, the deluxe lunchable with the white and wheat crackers, turkey and chicken, cheddar and swiss cheeses with the dill sauce was awesome. Probably the best one, and then came the deep dish pizza lunchable lol.
Courtney - August 15, 2011 - Report this comment
Anyone remember the cheese sauce that came in the pizza ones? I could eat that everyday..

The ham and American, and the turkey and American were my favorite. The sodium content of these things were/are still off the charts though, they are awful for you.

I love the turkey & cheddar ones... Hey Luncables!! Bring back the mustard packs!!!! I'd eat twice as many if you'd bring them back :)

I still eat these all the time. Ham & Swiss are my fav. The crackers though aren't as good as they use to be. Their kinda flavorless.

My family and friends all think I am crazy because I remember there being horseradish packets inside of the lunchables, anybody else remember this? I hated it and would toss the packet, now I love horseradish.
phyllis - July 26, 2014 - Report this comment
I remember the horseradish ones. They were the best.
Steve - December 13, 2014 - Report this comment
Was the horseradish sauce the white-looking sauce? Cause I remember liking that stuff a lot! I never got the mustard ones.

Eating one right now, ham and American, with Oreos on the side. It's been a couple decades since I actually ate one, and honestly, it's not bad. As others have said, in the past the meat was pretty "knuckley" which is a horrifically accurate and hilarious way to put it. The salt content's quite a bit lower than it was before I believe, definitely not what I'd consider healthy though. Now I gotta find one with the mustard packet. As an aside, they should totally make them an ingredient on Iron Chef.

Loved the snap-style Dijon mustard packs!! BRING THOSE BACK, PLEASE!!!!! Thank you, Kraft. ~BJB

Yes! The snap-style dijon mustard packets, I have missed those, looked for those and thought about those little mustard packets countless times over my life. (ya, it might be a sickness lol). What made them so great wasn't just the mustard itself but the way the packet was designed so you could squeeze just a tiny dot of mustard on the meat or cracker for a little extra boost of flavor. It really made the lunchable feel like a complete lunch kit while making the most out of the tiny amount of mustard they gave (super tiny amount). The mustard, red knife, napkin & andes mint .. bring it all back. Although, I've always enjoyed lunchables as a once in a while snack or middle of the night munchies - I can't believe someone would give their child a box of lunchables by itself to take to school as their entire lunch - for days!! - why don't they just give them a little tin of cat food while they at it - mean! Put the meth pipe down for a sec and fix your kids a sandwich.

I remember having the deluxe ones as a kid..with the mustard packet and all. I loved them. I don't remember the meat too well though. I still eat new lunchables but I wish they were like they used to be back then.
