They were in a brown plastic pouch, they were tiny little chocolate buds that would melt in your mouth (I'd love to get ahold of some)

I ahve been looking for Maple buds for years, I think they were by Roundtree and came in a chocolate bag that was brown with rosebuds all over the front. The nearest thing to them would be lyntt chocolate bars. They were very creamy. if anyone knows were to get them let me know. peterdawe77@yahoo.ca

I remember maple buds they were so good, better than the rose buds you can buy now, yes they were made by rowentree or roundtree chocolates

I remeber I used to get them at the theatre then they were harder to find. There was a drugstore that I was able to buy them at until they were discontinued. I looooooooved them and have been searching off and on for years to see if others remember. Bring them back!!!!!!
Jackie - October 22, 2007 - Report this comment
I was raised in Canada and adored maple buds. I use to purchase them in a drug store. I have never tasted any chocolate that melts in my mouth like those did. For the past 10 years I've been living in Las Vegas, and there is no comparison to any of the USA chocolate. Seriously, should we start a petition to ask for them to come back. Would enough people remember them? How do we find a person who worked for that company that we can try to take action and get this amazing product back on the market? Please email me exec_woman@yahoo.com Jackie

Shoppers Drug Mart carries "rosebuds" which are similar to the MapleBuds described...not sure who the maker is but it'll be in the candy aisle.

I can't believe there are so many other people who loved Maple Buds as much as I did. I looked for Rowntree on the net, and it looks like it may have been taken over by Nestle. A petition to Nestle, possibly?
A.S. - October 01, 2008 - Report this comment
I wrote to Nestle about bringing back Maple Buds. Here's what I wrote: I would like to have my email answered by management please. I am writing to you about "Rowntree Maple Buds" chocolate that was discontinued a few years ago. I know Nestle bought out Rowntree and then decided to discontinue this product. There are so many people out there who still love and remember Maple Buds. It's a shame that you took away the best tasting chocolate you could find at the pharmacy or corner store. What do we have to do to get Maple Buds back on the shelf again??? If we started a petition and there were enough people who wanted Maple Buds back, would you bring them back on the market? .................................. I doubt my email will work... I have emailed Nestle in the past and they said that they discontinued the product becase it wasn't selling. If you ever decide to start a petition... email me at iknowthatperson@yahoo.ca

Bring the Maple Buds back Nestle, at least test if they can sell. There will be enough buyers. My wife and I and plenty of others still talk about the best chocolate of all time. Maybe folks if we do enough emails about the best ever chocolate ever made, Nestle will listen, just people writing about it is proof enough, don't you think?
Tamra - February 07, 2009 - Report this comment
Actually, I wrote Nestle about Maple Buds several years ago, and followed up with a phone call. They said they didn't sell well enough, but even the girl on the phone who took my comments said they everyone in the office loved them! I also would them back and agree that Rosebuds are no comparison. However, I'm also worried that if Nestle did bring them back, they would be altered. Almost everything Nestle takes over (Carnation hot chocolate, Stouffers) ends up full of coconut oil and other cheap ingredients. They've even really downgraded Hagen Dasz.

This is so funny, i had no idea so many people loved maplebuds, like I did.. When did they stop making them? Like Snack Bars.. those were really good, then they stopped making those. I remeber the brown bag, you could buy them in a large qt.. I was a teenager, so were talking way back re: the maplebuds.. Why did they stop making them.. doesn't make sense? Rosebuds, yuck

Rosebuds, not a chance up against Maple Buds. In the states they seem to be remaking all the retro candies. Come on Canada bring back the wonderfully delicious "MAPLE BUDS". I'd sign the petition in a heart beat.

I loved Maple Buds! The comments about nestle changing everything with their cheaper ingredients is so true! Nice eh? charge more for something of less quality. The only reason they probably discontinued them is because the rich taste of them probably cut into their precious bottom line. Pathetic! I really wish they would bring them back!

I remember Maple Buds as a kid in the Parkdale area of Toronto, in the thirties and forties. They came in a candy bar sized box, and were definitely made, at that time, by Neilson's, who also made their famous Jersey Milk chocolate bar, and a very good quality ice cream. Their plant was on Gladstone Avenue, also in Parkdale. I believe that Rowntree's took over the manufacturing and marketing at a later date. Yes, I totally agree with anyone who advocates bringing maple Buds back . . .

I loved Maple Buds. In grade 7 and 8 I passed a store on my way back to school after lunch every day, I would buy 4 chocolate bars for a dollar. Ususally 2 baple buds, and 2 others. We should 'Like' the facebook page, add comments about bringing them back, and tell your FB friends to do the same. Maybe with enough people joining in we can convince Nestle.

Its more than just maple buds. Rowntree had exquisite chocolate recipes. In fact, I bet that back then it was the exact same chocolate they used for Aero (pure chocolate, no fillers or nougets). I remember the cholocolate that we used to have for Easter...Big Smarties chocolate egg with real melt in mouth chocolate. this dark waxy crap they have now doesnt even come close. Bring back the original recipe and our Maple Buds.

I can't believe I've stumbled across so much love for maple buds!!! I came to Canada in 1992 to visit family for the summer and was introduced to these wonderful chocolates then! Maple buds ohhhh how i still have dreams of you. There were several good chocolates that are now gone like Yorkie and bubbles but maple buds was really special. I used to buy it by the box and put them in the fridge. I would pay alot of dough for original Maple Buds. I find that the closest chocolate in terms of creamyness and taste is Dagenais chocolate, near Montreal, in Laval to be precise.

I remember Maple Buds, Nut Milk, Bar Six and another chocolate bar called Liquid Four Flavours. I loved (and now miss) them all. (The Bar Six came back briefly in the '90s but it's gone again). Why do they discontinue the really good stuff and flood the market with waxy junk that tastes like a brown crayon? (I used to like Coffee Crisp, too, before Nestle got hold of it).

I remember as a kid, all the Rowntree chocolate was far superior to anything else. Kit Kat, Smarties, Coffee Crisp and Aero. I couldn't wait for Easter so I could get the large hollow egg filled with smarties. The chocolate is was different...smarties, kitkat and Coffee Crisp especially. Aero is almost the same, but Mirage is probably closest to the original memory I have. Nestle RUINED the name. Even though they have essentially won the chocolate war, we all have lost. Seems like those 4 bars are like 80% of whats on the shelf these days..there used to be so many choices back when I was a kid. Anyone remember the old PEP huge peppermint patties...you get a nice runny one...liquidy goodness. You can still find these now and then, but there more like York Patties and that is NOT a compliment.

Maple Buds actually had maple syrup in them and were made with a lot more natural ingredients than the waxy chocolate we get today. They were my "go to" Chocolate back in the day, very creamy, milky and melty. ALL chocolate today tastes like processed crap, even Lindt. Rosebuds are nothing like maple buds. Miss my buds :(

My life has not been the same since Maple Buds were discontinued. I have been depressed and in a catatonic-like state. I HAVE THE ANSWER!!! I use to manage Blockbuster video and the Nestle rep explained why Maple Buds had to be discontinued. When other chocolate bars were coated in chocolate, the drippings would be swirled into a little chocolate. Instead of remelting the drops, they were packaged and sold. One downfall was they would melt easily so it was a hard product to sell in warmer weather. Unfortunately technology improved and the way chocolate bars were coated changed. Less dripping meant no swirly drops of goodness.
Jonathan - December 30, 2015 - Report this comment
It was a sad time in the early 90s when Nestle got their hands on the best chocolate bars on the market, if they had just kept the same formula all would be well but no, they cover and fill them with this waxy crap they call chocolate. I use to buy big bags of smarties and just fill my mouth with them and let them melt but now they would just sit there, maybe in 5 minutes they might get a little soft. It would be great to here they were bringing back the old stuff. Any one remember a bar called a DANISH.
