Can anyone tell me if this was linked to a movie promotion? It seems like it was, but I was super young.

I still got some of the chopsticks somewhere...you broke them down the middle to make 2 sticks and ended up spinterizing one of your lips...this was my first expierience with teriyaki...it tasted like salty burnt coffee...it took years to get over that.

THE DIPPING SAUCE WAS A PROMO FOR THE DISNEY ANIMATED MOVIE, "MULAN".

"Mulan" came out in the late 90's, while these came out in the mid 80's, they just brought them back briefly for the movie promo.

It was for the Madonna movie, "Shanghai Surprise"

This is where the hot mustard sauce came from! They kept it, and the sweet and sour, after this promo.

I'm not crazy then! It seemed like I was the only one who remembered the teriyaki sauce and the chopsticks.

I vaguely remember this! I'm glad someone pointed out it wasn't just for Mulan since that was in the 90's...because I'm pretty darn sure I tried the Shanghai McNuggets sometime during the 80's, I remember the sauces and the chopsticks.

Don't forget you got a Mcfortune cookie with them too! And scout, this isn't where the hot mustard sauce originated- hot mustard was one of the original sauces that came out with nuggets in 83. Finally, look for the internet lurker Shanghai nuggets commercial on youtube with Benji from Alf!

My parents had divorced when I was 3. They were just reconciling when this came out. I remember my daddy trying to teach me how to use the chopsticks, while we all ate as a family. My folks died way too young, but you brought back a wonderful memory for me.

Right...some McDonald's are releasing the Szechuan sauce to go with their McNugz for a limited time. Some only have 20 packets per store. This sauce originally came out in 1998 for the movie Mulan...totally diff from the 1980's Shanghai McNuggets!

No, scout, if that's your real name, they always had hot mustard and sweet & sour.

I have read so many incorrect or incomplete stories about these yummy sauces. I started working for McDonald's in 1983 and witnessed the original promotion. The sauces before were the hot mustard, sweet n sour, bbq, and honey (same as today's flavors). During the promotion, the sauces were changed to Shanghai teriyaki, hot mustard (different-very spicy), and a sweet n sour (also very different-more like a sweet chili flavor). The customers complained that the original sauces were not available during this time. I loved the oriental sauces. The oriental chicken salad was released at the same time. This promotion didn't have anything to do with a movie release. Since then, however, there have been other promotions. I wish those specialty sauces were still available.

I too worked at McDonalds from 83 to 86 and it had nothing to do with a movie promotion. I loved the sauces just not the hot mustard and it was a fun promo. We had one of the most successful stores in the upper midwest. I had great coworkers and great times. We always had the best customers. Had lots of fun promos back in the day. I know things have changed, too bad.
