Description
Basically a boneless serving of rib meat on a bun with lettuce and tomato... This is not a mainstay, but something they have offered occasionally.

Love the things but , definitely, a 4 napkin sandwich! McRib sandwich was introduced by McDonald's in 1981. After riding high on the permanent menu for a few years, McRib was never completely taken away, but is now available only in select regions and at certain times.
JustMarie - August 14, 2007 - Report this comment
I love when they put them on the menu. I make sure to get at least one or two of them.
Allen - August 21, 2007 - Report this comment
McRib's are a Beautiful Thing!! Granted it is alot smaller than it used to be everytime they bring it back, but still one of my favorites, esp with extra onions and pickles!!

Manny Calavera - January 24, 2008 - Report this comment
they never came with lettuce OR tomato I had one the other day on the way to work and let me just say...why dont they just get it over with and dip the whole damn think in sauce and give you a beach towel to clean up with....my steering wheel is McSticky.
ACJ - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
This was so, so good, but I would always kind of feel kind of guilty, like I was doing something bad by eating this sandwich. Every now and then, you'd bite a little hard nugget of gristle...
Terry - April 02, 2008 - Report this comment
I ate one in 1980!
Dorene - April 23, 2008 - Report this comment
I'd like to know why they got rid of McDonaldland Cookies! And I wish they had Shamrock shakes ALL year long not just around St. Patrick's Day!
Jennifer - June 23, 2008 - Report this comment
I have never liked these...I have always called them McCardboard. Thats what I thought they tasted like. Not to mention the creepy shape.
Wendy - June 26, 2008 - Report this comment

Totally the best thing to ever come out of Mickey D's. I still love those things, and have to have one when they come back around again.
Stewie - September 04, 2008 - Report this comment
These are WONDERFUL. I love the rich BBQ suace but always leave off the pickles and onions. I'm begging McDonald's to make these a permanent part of the menu!
DANA - September 21, 2008 - Report this comment
DIDN'T THE MCDONALD'S FRANCHISE GET SUED OVER REPORTS OF A MAN PURCHASING ONE OF THOSE SANDWICHES AND BITING INTO A RAT'S HEAD?
Judd Nelson's Nostrils - September 26, 2008 - Report this comment
2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, rathead on a sesame seed bun.
Jenny - September 30, 2008 - Report this comment
I don't care what the McRib is made out of...I LOVE IT! And I'd like to second bringing back McDonaldland cookies, and having the Shamrock Shake all year round!
Stewie - October 01, 2008 - Report this comment
I totally agree with Jenny. Most of the old McDonald's items should never have left the menu. The McRib is always the first that comes to mind. It's been on and off the menu since I was a kid in the 80's and the only senisible to do is keep it on the menu PERMANENTLY.
Rachel - December 29, 2008 - Report this comment
Loved the Simpsons episode they did on the Mc Rib, but instead it was some kind of Krusty burger.
neoasura - January 06, 2009 - Report this comment
Ah...I'd sell a left one for a McRib and a Shamrock Shake right about now....
Sharon - January 16, 2009 - Report this comment
I bet when they bring them back "for a limited time" (of course) they sell way more than they would if it were on the daily menu. Instead of eating them occasionally, people gorge on them to stock up on the memory... until the next time! :) My mom and sister love these. I tried one once but the texture freaked me out too much. It did taste good though!
Philistine - April 19, 2009 - Report this comment
The ultimate McMysteryMeat. Why is the "patty" shaped like it has bones if this is a boneless rib rack?? So totally bizarre. I think whenever people mistakenly say the '80s were bad, it's because of things like the McRib.
annieoh - June 23, 2009 - Report this comment
except that it had about 50 grams of fat!!!aka GRIZZLE....McDonalds corporate only keeps things permanently on the menu that sell well. They add new product to change things up once n a while. Use to work the grill, always making new patties. None of this keep warm in slide out drawer stuff. When I was younger I would always order a cheeseburger with no mustard cause then they would hve to make one fresh hot off the grill. Not anymore!!!!! Open up the drawerrrrrrr

I worked at McD when they brought these back, the most awesome thing (they should honestly have on the menu) is McRib meat, the old style "packet" honey mustard (not the new sauce cup one), lettuce tomato and a bit of the diced onion, totally an awesome sandwich ;)

McDondad people bring these back for six week spells a couple times a year. THIS IS NOW THAT TIME OF YEAR. I'm fat and love them.

Where?! I've went to my local Micky D's and the kid behind the counter said they weren't there and didn't know when they would be back? But then again, he didn't seem to be making the CEO decisions if you know what I mean. I worked there in 1977 and have come a long way, baby. HEY, why don't 8Os.com have a site for cigarettes from the 70s like Virginia Slims. We'd call them Virgiina SLims!

Talk to my McDonald's guy in Allentown and they said they will be on the menue soon! I've living here in Allentown. Where they're eating all the coal in the ground. And in Bethlehem they're doing fine, waiting in line doing a line. Of cocaine!

I actually broke down and broke my no fast food ban when they brought these back. I still prefer my McNuggets but the McRib brought me back to the going to see the Flinstones movie with my family and those neat glasses you could bye when you got a McRib... I loved those glasses!
Jenny - August 31, 2011 - Report this comment
If I heard tomorrow that the McRib really was made of rat meat, I think I would STILL eat it. And do we have a Billy Joel fan up there? lol
Mike - March 24, 2012 - Report this comment
Anyone know hoe to get the old honey mustard packet not the crappy new sauce cup style. The packets were 100x better and it's screwing up my McDonalds experience not having it. I would buy it by the case and pay someone a finders fee if they could somehow solve my problem. I'll even buy you a case too.

McRib is a standard sandwich at McDonald's in Germany. Whenever I am there I must go to the arches and get one. BTS, The Netherlands
Raven o - December 19, 2012 - Report this comment
Golden Arches Guru ... Can't believe you didn't talk about the McRib? They're back now, but only for a limited time. As always. But the McDLT was good, too. Keep on Truckin' Oh yeah ... heard there was a special webpage dedicated to all the seperate McDonalds that sell this sandwich at different times. Apparently each individual francise owner can bring the McRib back at their leisure.
Doug - January 22, 2013 - Report this comment
They're back right now! Are you happy, Raven o, that Baltimore is in the big one. But Ray Lewis is a bad person and bad roll model. Unlike the McRib. And thanks for the info, Bastiaan! Next time, hopefully, I'm in Germany and/or The Netherlands I'll all there. And in The Netherland's you can smoke special cigarettes before you eat!

Just saw news story that McD's bringing back the McRib for a limited time soon. You either love these sandwiches or hate them! Personally I never tried one but my dad always liked em. I always wondered why they were shaped like they had bones in them when they were a boneless patty? Oh the glorious 1980's!

While enjoying a couple tasty McRibs (still 3 bucks each), I watched "The Founder" on DVD, with Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc. Film was based on fact, with a little Hollywood spin mixed in. Kroc is portrayed as an overzealous tyrant who essentially screwed the McDonald Brothers and spat in their faces after becoming a millionaire. Many of today's Hollywood flicks based on history miss essential points. In "Founder," no mention of products like the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder or McRib. Milestones not mentioned include when hiring of women began (1968), and the prospects of minorities in management or as franchisees (Chicago and Philadelphia early on). The film did go into Kroc's philandering (pursuing future wife, Joan, while married to another woman). Also, no mention of the company clown mascot, Ronald. Enough said.

Chuckie don't like it
Rob Lambert - November 07, 2018 - Report this comment
In a sense, EW! is correct. McRibs went up 20 cents, now $3.50 before tax. Despite this, I bought two. The sandwich size still shrinks, compared to 1985, when they were a buck fifty, and bigger.

From the prime time TV vault, an ad cross-promoting McRibs with Atari video games. Buy a McRib, get a scratch-off card with Centipede, Asteroids or other Atari game printed on them. Prizes available included cash, food items and Atari home systems or game carts. Winning with these was difficult. This aired on "Fame" over NBC (3/4/82). Coincidentally, a sub-plot in the episode had Doris (Valerie Landsburg) trying out for a hamburger place's TV commercial screen test.
