The first time I had this was probably at Target and I was probably 10 maybe. I t's just a rip off of Mountain Dew.

They still make Mellow Yello?????
Troy - October 04, 2008 - Report this comment
YES, they STILL MAKE MELLO YELLO! It is kind of hard to find, the only chain in my area (Indianapolis) that carries it is Kroger food, but the Kroger grocery company has stores all over, just under different names, so check! I am sure it is still available nationwide.
TarHeelErin - October 08, 2008 - Report this comment
They definitely still make Mello Yello. It used to be HUGE here in the South (I live in NC -- especially when I was in high school. I've seen it at the lower end grocery chains like Food Lion.

Does anyone remember the commercials with Ernest P. Whirl (spelling?)?
MrTroy - November 21, 2008 - Report this comment
Yep! Here are the links to Ernest P. Worrell's Mello Yello ad's on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02Yh_15fWec http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP0lwxjaOAE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXEJ2mXwHhk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJp8Clw8ebc

Once they removed Crystal Pepsi, I moved to drinking Mello Yello really quick when I was little.
Dave - December 28, 2008 - Report this comment
Diet Mello Yello is the only good tasting diet drink I've ever encountered, but I haven't seen it in stores in about 5 years.
Nate - December 31, 2008 - Report this comment
Mello Yello is my absolute favorite soda!! It's still all over here in Minnesota, practically all stores carry it. I've been drinking it since I was little and have never ceased.
Nikki - January 21, 2009 - Report this comment
Definitely not a rip off of Mountain Dew. A completely different and better taste than Mountain Dew. Most of the Pepsi Cola products pale in comparison to the Coca Cola Company. And Mello Yello is definitely still around in the Southeast.

i remember drinking this in australia as a kid it has been gone for 15-20 years, why?
MrTroy - August 25, 2009 - Report this comment
Dave, I don't think they make diet mello yellow anymore. The only thing left is 12 pack regular, not even 24 pack!
Sheila - August 29, 2009 - Report this comment
I didn't even know there was a diet Mello Yello. The regular Mello Yello is getting increasingly harder to find here in IL. About 2 weeks ago I caught it on sale at a Hyvee grocery store for 3/ $9.00. They only had 8 cases so I bought them all. I guess I hoard it out of fear of it being discontinued. It's my all time favorite.
Jason - September 24, 2009 - Report this comment
Mello yello is by far the best soda ever!!!! I moved from minnesota approx. 5 years ago to southern Utah and it isn't available anywhere here in the southwest. I have inquired at the coke store on the Las Vegas strip about getting cans or bottles of mello yello but they are no help. At least they sell mello yello from the soda fountain. Now when I go back to MN to visit my parents it costs me alot of money to import by airplane back to Utah! they need to bring this back around the country.
MrTroy - September 25, 2009 - Report this comment
Jason, and those where it is not available locally, you can buy it here: http://sodafinder.com/products/mello-yello, but it is very expensive.
Sheila - October 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Sodafinder.com gets a premium price for hard to find sodas. IIRC.... a 12 pk of Mello Yello is something like $24.00. Total rip off. Hopefully, the Coke company will realize there is high demand for this delicious drink, and start distributing it nationwide again. Email them and tell them you want it back in your area. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!!!
Crash - October 21, 2009 - Report this comment
We still have this in Arkansas...12 packs, 20oz bottles, and some places have it in ntheir fountain machines. Sodafinder has it for $24 a 12 pack...WOW, that's ridiculous.
Alex - November 11, 2009 - Report this comment
Recently moved back to Indianapolis from Arizona and along the drive I checked every gas station I stopped at for Mello Yello. Finally found it just outside St Louis and can find it at the Village Pantrys here in Indy, 20 oz bottle only for about $1.49. A few restaurants still have it as a fountain drink, but those are slowly disappearing as well. I had NO idea there was DIET Mello Yello back in the day!
Alex - November 13, 2009 - Report this comment
How ironic...the day after my post above I go to a Jimmy Johns I haven't been to in over 3 years and they have Mello Yello at the fountain and then in the same day I am out shopping at a Super Wal-Mart I don't usually go to and they have 12 packs of Mello Yello cans for $3.58 Heaven!
mike - March 23, 2010 - Report this comment
I remember seeing it in Wisconsin while camping in the 70's, before it was in the Twin Cities area...Now it's common around here, and I assumed countrywide, but I guess not...But it IS simply the Pepsi version of mt dew, in my mind...

DIET MELLO YELLO--Yes, they do indeed make diet Mello Yello. Go to Coke's website and you will see the nutrition info for it. However, everyone has to realize that EACH state is different. North gets different sodas in stock than the south. (like the south's extreme sweet tea they like) MOST stores, if the product is made, will get the product in, especially PUBLIX, if you request it. But they won't purchase big quantities of it. Just a few, to fill your request and keep it going. Northern areas can get FAYGO by the truck loads, particularly Diet Grape or Diet Van. Creme....but down here, we can't even get regular Faygo without an all day trip and 60 bucks in gas! Someone said that PA has extremely limited choices in sodas, more or less, and yet I lived there all my life, now for the past 13 yrs, live in GA and this place stinks as far as choices go. But, just a couple hours drive to N. or S. Carolina and you can get reg/diet cheerwine, Nestea icedtea(the real one, not that "cool" crap), Birch Beer (which GA peeps look @ you like WHAT???????..LOL) & plenty various drinks. GA has the Coke company/World of Coke, etc...and yet their choice of Coke products are limited in the stores. I guess, like I did, everyone needs to call their Vendors, suppliers, manufacturers and find what they can find. Otherwise, you could spend hours in cyberspace looking for the hidden gems you search.

I drink Mellow Yellow everyday...its virtually available everywhere around here. I live in Southern Indiana and if you can't find it around here, its considered odd. I'm addicted to the drink though, and I LOVE it. :)

I am a professional drag racer and Both regular and diet Mello Yello are available in the circuits I race in which are Arizona,California,Nevada,Utah,Idaho and western Canada. They are a major NHRA drag racing sponsor and a product of Coca-Cola.
MrTroy - December 19, 2015 - Report this comment
They are trying to "re-launch" the soda even though it never went away in some markets. Its probably more available now than it has been in 15 years. They even have a Mello Yello Zero but it doesn't taste nearly as true to Mello Yello as Coke Zero tastes to Coke.
