Description
Powdered chicken soup mix that came with a "golden nugget" (i.e. buillon cube) for flavoring. Had tons of noodles and little flecks of dried parsley. SUPER salty! I always craved it when I was recovering from stomach flu as a kid. The commercial had a kid coming home to eat Mrs. Grass Soup for lunch over the jingle, "When Johnny comes marching home for lunch, it's Mrs. Grass's soup!"

Oh my gosh -- I cannot believe someone else remembered Mrs. Grass's Soup! I was fascinated by the little yellow egg-shaped bullion thing. This was my favorite food - hands down - when I was about 4 or 5. To this day, I still look for it when I'm grocery shopping, hoping that JUST MAYBE some store will carry it.

TarHeelErin, look again - I see it all over the supermarkets here in Michigan ... just in regular grocery stores, too. Look around the powdered/boxed soup section - it's usually high on the top shelf, out of range of normal sight

I, too, was fascinated by the little yellow egg. So fascinated, in fact, that I once bit the egg and the saltiest, yellow, viscous fluid squirted into my mouth and I thought I would surely die from some sort of salt poisoning. Never did that again.

Everyone seems so amazed about Mrs Grass soup. You can buy it at Shop Rite anytime !!! Made by Wyler's and it still has the golden nugget 3-8-09

Available in WI from most grocery stores. They have several varieties, including the regular Noodle Soup, Extra Noodle, and some veggie one. I have 5 boxes in my pantry now. Totally yummy!

It must be a regional thing because I cannot find it in the south.

I'm in SOuth Florida and I've been able to get it at Publix and Albertson's. I know Jewel and Dominick's also carry it in the north. Fun tip -- if you don't put in the golden nugget, it's virtually fat free and still tastes great. I discovered that when going through gall bladder issues. I still do it now even though I don't need to.

I'm eating a bowl of Mrs. Grass right now. Super delicious. I've never know the stores to not carry it. Totally brings back childhood memories.

My mom used to make this soup for my brother and I all the time, especially when we were sick. We would fight over the golden egg!!!!! They still sell it at the grocery store!! I have 2 boxes (the same break apart box) in my pantry right now!!!! Tastes the same as it did in the 1980s!!!!

I'm 56 and just shared a childhood story with a friend about how far back we could remember stuff. When I was about age 4, around 1957, my parents left me home alone (a major felony nowadays!)and I decided to make lunch. I climbed up on a chair and got down some Mrs. Grass Chicken Noodle Soup and put it in a pan with water like I'd seen my Mom do. I was especially stoked about the Magic Golden Egg, cuz of course it was magic. I wasn't real up on how long to cook it so after dropping the magic egg into the boilng water I went off to watch Sheriff John, our local SoCal TV cartoon baby sitter. I forgot about for I don't know how long but the pan was basically fused to the electrical stove element and the blackened burnt noodles all that was left of my lunch. I know my dad wasn't too happy when he got home. No smoke alarms back in the nifty fifties!

They sell it on Amazon and NetGrocer. Some stores still have it here in Texas, but not the basic one from my childhood. http://www.amazon.com/Mrs-Grass-Chicken-Noodle-5-Ounce/dp/B0012272P6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288470141&sr=8-1 Just checked. Netgrocer only has the Extra Noodles one: http://shop.netgrocer.com/shop.aspx?&sid=43866995&sid_guid=004c74c3-eff1-4c83-8f3c-c86ef8ab8618&strid=2D462&shopurl=search.aspx&k=mrs%20grass&ns=1

Still another favorite food that has gone by the wayside. This soup was delicious, and the golden egg was cool. I did find some at Walmart, and bought several packages. This was just a week and a half ago. I made some for lunch just today.

I remember having that soup as a child back in the 70s. It was hard to find once I got married. It seems to be making a comeback as I have been finding it in most of the grocery stores now.

Wyler's Mrs. Grass Chicken Noodle Soup is the best when you are not feeling well or on cold winter days. Walmart seems to be out of stock in every store. Sure you can still purchase the other kinds of Wyler`s soup but the original is the best.

It's OCT. 21st 2013 and suddenly Mrs. Grass soup has left the stores. anybody know why? I've checked amazon, eBay even on line. Vermont is out. how about anybody out there? Winters coming I need my soup!

We can't find it in central pennsylvania either. It just disappeared! This happened a while ago and we thought they stopped making it. It miraculously reappered for a while and is once again gone.

They carry it at Walmart and Meijers everywhere in Indiana. It's on the aisle with the Lipton boxes soup! It's only about $1.60 for TWO boxes! It's wonderful! I just found it about 7 months ago and I rarely run out, I keep my home stocked! Hope this helps!!

I have been looking at Kroger and Meijer in Michigan for about 3 or 4 months and the only Mrs. Grass on the shelf is the Homestyle. I asked an employee at Kroger and she said she had been looking too but she doesn't know why they stopped getting it. Then for a couple of weeks there was a sign on the shelf where the soup would normally go that said "Coming soon", but still no soup....??? Very sad, my kids love this soup, it's the only kind they will eat.

Came out way back around the 1950's and is still available today. Made by Wylers. Also, back in 1983 there was a Mrs. Grass homestyle vegetable dip mix whose commercial can be found on youtube

I am 75 yrs old and I haven't had Mrs. Grass soup in years. But, my kids always did. I made it and then beat up an egg and put that in. This past week I had a stomach flu and my daughter bought me a box with extra noodles. WOW! it was great and now I bought more of it.

In Chicago, in the late 1940s mother bought and made Mrs Grass soup for us kids and we too were fascinated by the Golden Egg.

I just turned 70. For some reason I have started the hunt for Mrs. Grass's with the golden nugget. I live in Orlando. Checked Target, Winn Dixie, Publix and Wall M. Not on the shelves. I am cooking a substitute right now on a ninety degree day.

Eating Mrs Grass soup for lunch right now. Yum. Perfect on a cold Michigan day! I've grown up with this great soup, but my co-worker (41yo) who lived in Cali and Oregon had never heard of it.

I live in Spooner,Wisconsin.I have looked everywhere I can think of for the Original-doubled box w/drop in golden egg with no success. Along with all of the other wonderful features that makes this soup truly heart warming-I have learned along the way that the noodles are just the right size and can be eaten through a straw! Simple Family Fun!

Disappeared from ShopRite shelves in southern NJ 3-4 months ago. A friend gets it where she lives about 20 mi. away at a small local mkt and she tells me the golden egg is gone!!!! What gives? Please Wylers, put the golden egg back! It's one of the great selling points for Mrs. Grass soup to kids.

In the 90's, the box of chicken noodle soup had a great recipe for a chicken casserole. Anyone recall the recipe?
Jerry - February 12, 2016 - Report this comment
yep, just picked up a box at our local grocery store since the family all have colds, and the golden nugget is gone. I was really disappointed! That's what made Mrs. Grass's stand out.
Neil - February 13, 2016 - Report this comment
Sadly, it no longer has the Golden Nugget. the box size has been reduced from 5 oz. to 4.2 oz. When I tried to leave product feedback at Wyler's website (which still shows the old box with the Golden Egg), I got a mailbox full message from H.J. Heinz. I usually buy it at WalMart.

Grew up on Mrs. Grass golden egg soup-always buy it for my kids when they are sick. I freaked out when I got home and dug in the noodles for the egg. It's GONE!! I am very upset and wrote about it on my face book and will keep spreading the bad news.

I've been enjoying ms grass soup for 40 years or more, the only package soup I ever eat but the golden nugget is now sadly gone. Will not eat it anymore. Sadly I only want to remember the soup with the little egg, another sad cost cutting measure by big business and ruins everything another NEW coke idea. No more ms grass soup.....I'm very sad about this link to my childhood

Just bought my last box ever (at least until they put egg back in). I wonder what upper management marketing genius said "i have an idea, let's remove the egg!"

I found a box of my old favorite Mrs. Grass Chicken Noodle soup. Looked on the box for the little egg, read the back of the box thinking it would be in the ingredients, but it was not. Bought it anyway because it is a "feel good" soup. Hope it tastes the same without my little nugget. So sad.

bought today the double box of Mrs grass chicken noodle soup, and there was no little yellow egg in the boxes. Are you doing something different now?

I just fixed a box of Mrs Grass soup. Will not ever buy it again until the golden nugget is back. If I wanted a bowl of water and noodles I could of just fixed it myself. I don't know who's bright idea it was to take the nugget out but you made a extremely dumb era. You really ruined a good thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been looking for Mrs. Grass Onion Soup Mix all week. I like to put it in the Crock Pot with a roast. Turns out wonderful. I see I can get it at Amazon.com. Just didn't want to go to the internet to order. But No stores in my area carry it.

Mrs. Grass Chicken Soup will never taste the same without the little golden egg . I had to add "this and that" to give it some flavor. What is happening in our world today is enough to deal with. Removing a "simple thing in life" like the little egg is just sad. I will no longer purchase .

I just fixed a box of Mrs. Grass soup. it was terrible without the golden nugget. Was always our favorite winter soup. Will not buy again unless nugget is brought back. I would rather pay a little more for that wonderful flavor it had.
