Description
It was a different version of Coke that didn't taste that great and was replaced by Coca-Cola Classic.

I wouldn't say this stuff was awful; I drank it more than once. But obviously it sucked compared to the old Coke, and the Coke company realized their mistake pretty quickly.

I was 11 when this came out and I didn't think it was too bad. I remember my dad saying it tasted like "rotten Pepsi" - LOL. I was a kid but I was one of the few people who kinda liked it.

I remember this when I was about 4 and had no idea what was going on but when we would see Coke in the Winn-Dixie my mom would be like no we can't buy that because they changed the taste. And we NEVER drank Pepsi in our house ever. I always have though Pepsi is flat old Coke!

i thik Pepsi tastes like too sweet, flat Coke Classic. New Coke tasted like a crappy version of Pepsi.

You all must not remember, but the only reason this even was produced is because of the Pepsi challenge back in 1983,because of the results of the taste tests, the Coca-cola company freaked out and made a drastic decision to change the formula only 1 year before their 100th anniversary in 1986.It was a total failure.

Regular Coca-Cola had NEW COKE beat from the starting gate. Thankfully, they brought back "Coca Cola Classic"

I vaguely remember the Pepsi Challenge. While I don't remember what New Coke tasted like I do remember drinking it and hating it.

We were told Coke was the Bast**d pop. My sisters first husband works for Pepsi so Coke especially New Coke was forbidden!

I only remember the media controversy surrounding New Coke. I know I drank New Coke at some point, I LOVED any soda pop especially colas. But I don't remember if I liked it or not.

Something to keep in mind, too. After the New Coke/Coke II failures, that is when the original formula became "Classic". Before, it was just "Coca-Cola". The irony is, it's not actually the original formula but an adjusted version, also replacing sugar with high fructose corn syrup (common in drinks today). In order to get the REAL Coke Classic, you have to go to an ethnic store and buy the Chinese or Nicaraguan glass bottle coke, which IS the pre-new-coke formula. Try that, you will notice the flavor compared to contemporary "Coke Classic".

I remembering being a lot sweeter, it was a bit on the flat side, it almost tasted like you'd left an open container in the fridge for a few days

The messed up by remaking coke. IF they had made the new coke and still had regular/real coke it was fine. They replaced it with new coke and it was one of the biggest goof ups ever.....the companies are always pumping out new flavors, new drinks....but changing a favorite was wrong. Both versions could have existed and then maybe pepsi diehards would have drank the new coke and coke diehards would have drank coke classic and if they got froggy had a new coke....anyways.I like coke and i like pepsi...I will buy whatever one I am in the mood for.

I remember (I think it was 1985?ish) this came out and it was absolutely horrible! The worst part was that they didn't just add it to their repertoire but they completely discontinued the original Coke and replaced it with this. It tasted like a diet drink- disgusting! But then they brought back our beloved Coke and called it "Classic" so I've always suspected the whole thing was a marketing ploy???
