Description
Sort of like a smoothie, very frothy, tasty and sweet. They may have had other flavours, but I always had the orange. I hear rumours they still exist, but...My favourite things about the mall in the 80s, Orange Julius and the Rainbow Shop. They were AWESOME.

I have to say that most people didn't think to mix the flavors very much because the people that work for OJ were not nice. My personal fav was orange/pineapple. FANTASTIC!!!! There was a place next to it called Corn Dog On A Stick. This place had the absolute best corn dogs, cheese fries , and cherry lemonade that rocked the house!!!!! Oh how I miss those days!! My butt doesn't miss one second of it!!!!

We have Orange Julius still in California, I love it, I believe it has some white chocolate flavor to it. and it's "hot dog on a stick", my favorite mall food ever.

there was some powdery thing they put in it and looking back i think it must have been crack or something similar because that stuff was AWESOME!my ultimate dream 70's-80's party would include orange julius, weiner wraps, doritos original taco flavor, koogle, space foodsticks, giggle noodle soup, pizzahuts taco pizza, mcdonalds original fries(when they were fried in beef tallow, sunchips(when they were shaped like pringles),hunts pudding snack cups(in a metal can)-i could go on forever

Orange Julius...mm. Always had to have one of those at the mall. And my parents always bought me one. Cool 'rents. I was always FASCINATED by the rows of plastic oranges behind glass built into the counter. Simple 80's childhood. *s* And holy cow...The Rainbow Store??!? I thought that was a local store, I had never seen or heard of another one. But It WAS the bomb!

Still have both Orange Julius & Hot Dog on a Stick in the Burbank mall. I don't think the Orange Julius tastes the same as when I was a kid, though.

Does anyone remember the homemade Orange Julius pouches you could get at the grocery store?? You'd put it in a blender with OJ and ice and .... Orange Julius at home!!! They had the banana one too.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE ORANGE JULIUS! Used to go to the mall in Albany (Colony Center, I think) to get these after shopping at Sears. One of my favorite childhood food memories. They still have them. I saw one in Arizona when I lived there.

Our local mall still has Orange Julius, but it's not as good as it used to be and it's paired with Dairy Queen in 1 small food court 'store' now. When I was a kid, Orange Julius was separate and apart from the food court. They had the cool plastic oranges built into the counter and small area with a counter and brown vinyl stools where you could eat their hot dogs and your Orange Julius, although you kind of had to stare at the wall! My parents took me there quite a few times when I was a kid and we sometimes stopped for a Julius. My favorite was strawberry and my mom liked pina colada while my dad opted for classic orange.

Orange Julius doesn't taste like I remember. They just put them on DQ menu here. I bought 2Large, one 4me, one 4hubby. I was sooo excited. Got home with them. We both took a drink and about gagged. What a waste of money--and they weren't cheap. I didn't throw them out, but instead put them in blender with OJ concentrate and a little milk...much better. Won't buy them again. Will try recipes from internet instead. I remember the Orange Julius for their flavored cokes too! The chocolate coke was yummy.

Came out way back in 1926 and was absolutely huge in the 80's

My mother took me to Orange Julius every other weekend in Newburgh, NY back in 81-84. I always got a smoothie and a hot dog called the "St. Louis" I think! It was cheese, mustard and bacon bits. I loved it. I'm vegan now and I just made it with Wholefoods 365 Veggie dog, Chao Cheese Slices, Veggie bacon bits and yellow mustard on a potato roll. AMAZING!! It was so much better because I could just enjoy it and not have to wonder what was in the meat:))

Does anyone remember the walls looked like lava rock and their mascot was a devil with a pitchfork?
Rob Lambert - October 29, 2020 - Report this comment
Patrick: This was before Orange Julius became a Dairy Queen entity. The devil logo was lifted from Arizona State University. Threats of a lawsuit for infringement by the university prompted Orange Julius to get a new image by 1983.
