Description
Tortilla chips loaded with jalapeno flavored seasoning. I don't know if they were their own company or if FritoLay owned them but they were my favorite - hot & spicy!

Indeed, these were actually spicy chips, unlike the over-marketed, under-spiced Doritos today. Plus Pepitos weren't encased in fake cheese and didn't turn your fingers orange. Nice crisp chip with plenty of hotness.

Yes! They were in a class of their own. They were my favorite. I sometimes feel like my memory of them is a hallucination because most people have never heard of them. The recent Habanero Doritos come close in spiciness, but do have the unidentified orange pseudo-queso coating.

Still my fave chip, ever! The long since discontinued (I think) taco-flavored Doritos were close. Think they were Frito-Lay.

We miss them- we remember the song from the commercial:" Oh-oh Pepitos, so crispy and hearty, Pepitos- To pep up your party, Pepitos- you can't beat those Pepitos!" WE MUST BRING THEM BACK

We used to drink Olde English Malt Liquor and eat Pepitos in my friend's basement. The perfect combination!

I just found these chips at my local Walgreen's. They are called "El Sabroso all natural Jalapenitos" jalapeno and cheese chips. The first thought that came to me when I ate the first one was "PEPITOS". Try them if you can find them. You wont be disappointed. I used to buy Pepitos everyday at the lunch counter in 8th grade for 25 cents a bag!

I LOVED Pepitos, and I remember that commercial jingle too! My lunch as a picky kid used to consist of a bag of Pepitos and a pepperoni sandwich. It's weird how you'll bite into chips now and think that they come close to the BEST CHIPS EVER. Please Frito Lay, BRING BACK OUR PEPITOS!!!

OMG! I didn't know if I remembered the name correctly or not. Just recently, these chips have been in my thoughts. And what do you know, yesterday in the grocery store, I saw some Tostitos Scoops Hint of Jalopeno were on the shelf. Of course I bought them! They are tasty, but the texture is more of a Doritoes cool ranch, as opposed to the light, crispy jalopeno Pepitos! I must find them...

This is such a hoot! Believe it or not, I created the Pepitos brand, the flavors, the packaging, the television commercial, the jingle -- my client was the Snacktime Company, owned by Culbro Corporation -- it was not a Frito Lay product. After all these years it's a joy to read that people still remember, talk about, and loved the product. Many thanks.

I ate Pepitos daily in Jr High in Manitowoc, WI circa 1983 - 1985...loved all the seasonings...I remember sometimes being just chucks of just spice the size of marbles...I had a buddy that would lick each side of the chip and then eat.

I e-mailed Fritos and said that I would pay any price and would buy them by the case of they would just tell me where to send the check. they replied by saying that they don't know what I'm talking about and are totally unfamiliar with Pepitos. Who made these awesome little chips?!?!?!?!?

Well try and bring them back wd, I've been trying to explain how they tasted to my kids for years. I could eat a bag a day and wash them down with a Totino's pizza. Back when they weighed almost a pound, now they're only 10.2 ounces. I want my Peptitos!!!

Funny thing is I've recently tried looking for this jingle on youtube with no luck. I've brought these chips up to coworkers and even gave them a bit of the jingle, but nobody remembers them. Oh oh pepitos(horn), Oh what a treat those pepitos (horn).

Probably most of the weight I have on me can be attributed to these delicious spicy round tortilla chips. I really really wish they were still around.

It looks like there was a trademark filed for these back in 1986

Pepitos were manufactured by Cain's Potato Chips, not Frito Lay. Both my parents worked for Cain's and I still to this day dream about these wonderful tortillas.Try Doritos Salsa Verde. They are similar and the last bag I had made my nose run a tad.

Holy cow!! I ate these one time while drinking a twelve of Altes beer. I had the stinkiest farts ever. My buddy still talks about this. People who walked in the room swore the dog pooped somewhere. Nope....just the aftermath. Chips were good...the beer wasn't.

I think what made these unique was that they had some cumin along with the jalapeno. been wanting some of these for the past 30 years...

I love the fact that so many people have thought about this brand of Chip. I still think about it all the time myself. I have had some of the other brands mentioned above, but nothing still compares to the original. The closest I have ever found was about 10 years ago on a visit to India. There is a brand called seen your potat I love the fact that so many people have thought about this brand of Chip. I still think about it all the time myself. I say that everyone should bombard FritoLay's site with comments about how awesome Pepitos were and we petition to get them to bring it back. The lime skittle came back, maybe Peptios will too.

I still vaguely remember a little jingle written on the bag- "Waaaay down in Mexico, That is where Pepitos grow..." There was more, but I'm pretty sure those brain cells got nuked in college. WD, can you bring the bag ditty back to life?

Pepitos Jalapeno and Cheese were the absolute best chips ever! Everyone comes close to duplicating the taste, but just seem to miss it.

They were way too hot for young me, but I still loved them. Wish they still existed so I could try them now that my heat tolerance has improved.

I loved these chips. They had a different flavor that was spicy, salty and awesomness rolled into one. Please, someone find the formula and makes these!
Marcus - January 20, 2022 - Report this comment
Still miss these chips. Still check occasionally to see if somehow they made a comeback. The father of one of my childhood friends worked for the company that made them, so I got to try (and love them) before they even hit the market. I still remember the jingle (one of the best ever). I wish I wish I wish these chips would come back. They were THAT good!

I LOVED Pepitos too! They were my go to all throughout Jr & Sr High School. I feel like they’ve brought them back and rebranded them as the Tostitos Salsa Verde (green bag). The “i” in the name appears to be the same. It’s the only thing that satisfies my cravings for the original!
