Description
I think this came out in the late 80s--it was chocolate or vanilla frosting with little candy bits in it. There was Pillsbury Funfetti Cake Mix to go with it.

They still make the Funfetti cake mixes & frosting, but they've since changed the frosting part so it no longer comes with those awesome candy bits mixed in. Just sprinkles for the top. NOT AS TASTY!! Remember how those mysterious candy nibs used to just melt in your mouth?? Funfetti is way too sweet for me now, but my fiance absolutely loves it. I have to make it for him & his crew every time a holiday rolls around and brings a new Funfetti mix to herald it in a manner proper. (Christmas-themed is the worst. Mint-green icing and green sprinkles that make baked cake look mold-flecked.) Gag! They love it, though. They will eat gigantic slices of it first thing in the morning. Isn't that horrid??

Oh my god. SZA i was searching the internet to find someone who agreed with me on that matter. WE MUST FIND OTHERS LIKE OURSELVES! We have to persuade Pillsbury to resume making the awesomeness that IS Funfetti Frosting. I don't know how much longer I can survive like this.

Yeah, AMD! The "bigwigs" at Pillsbury think they can get away with trying to pass off today's Funfetti as the Funfetti of our childhoods ... but we're NOT convinced. We know what we're missing!!!

Oh my goodness, for the past couple of weeks I've been going to all the different grocery stores in search of the Funfetti icing. I even talked to my 8 year old students to see if they had it recently, however the only thing they have is the icing with sprinkles on top. This makes me so sad! :(

For those looking for the "original" Funfetti frosting: Betty Crocker has a "Rainbow Chip" boxed cake, which is a confetti cake just like Funfetti, and has the matching confetti icing that we all miss... and it's NOT like the sprinkle-topped frosting Pillsbury is currently selling.

Everyone here can go to Pillsburys website and click the link contact us and ask them the questions or make a complaint you have about the original Funfetti icing we all miss. Maybe if there are enough complaints they will realize that people are only buying the newer version because you cannot find the original.Myself ,I am not buying it anymore unless the original comes back.

I can't they changed the frosting, the new version is crap compaired to what it used to be! Everyone I know that ate the older type loved it and im outraged that it changed to a less satisfactory product...why?

Wow! I thought I was the only crazy one. Pillsbury has messed up the cake I request every year. Way to go Dough Boy!

Betty Crocker makes rainbow chip frosting which is the same thing, Pillsbury icing sucks.
SZA - February 13, 2010 - Report this comment
Oh my goodness, AM - I did not know this! I don't think I've ever seen Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip, but I checked the website and you're right. I wonder if this is a brand new product? At any rate, I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend ...
