Description
Grape and Lemonade Kool-Aid from the 80s. The packet was purple with a purple dinosaur that would most certainly be able to whomp on Barney. Alas, they don't make it anymore, so you now have to buy a grape and lemonade packet in order to make the Purplesaurus Rex goodness today.

I sustained life off of this stuff as a kid! The grape and lemonade combination was powdered perfection. It was the only koolaid flavor I would drink

Drink enough purplesaurus rex and your poop turns BRIGHT GREEN! it was scary the first time it happened.

Now this one was a major disappointment in every kid's heart when it was discontinued. I still, to this day, in my adult years, find myself fiddling around with different ratios of lemonade and grape Kool-Aid, trying to find the perfect blend that matches.

You're right about the green poop! We had a green poop epidemic in my fraternity house from that stuff. Still, it was awesome.

My brother and I would alway beg my mom for this when we went to the grocery store! So tasty

That was me and my older sister's favorite Kool-Aid flavor. I still think about that purple dinosaur, and the amazing grape/lemonaide flavor everytime i have to resort to making cherry kool-aid.

I remember back in high school, kids got the crazy idea to dye their hair with Kool Aid. One kid dyed his cat (horrible I know) with Purplesaurus Rex Flavor Kool Aid...and then named the cat, Purplesaurus Rex! I did love to drink it though!

Does anybody else remember the Kool-Aid popsicles? They were a staple in my house as a kid along with Jell-o Pudding Pops and Mariano's Cherry Italian Ices. I would throw a fit in the grocery store if my mom would tell me we couldn't have them, and then I remember hiding them in freezer from my little sister, so she wouldn't get the last one. I have tried to make them, as did my mom as a kid, but they never turned out the same (neither did homemade pudding pops )

We mixed it with Bacardi Black in college. It was dangerous!

It's funny...my my aunt always made kool-aid by mixing grape and lemonade together, long before it was sold as an actual flavor, it must have been more popular than I realized as a kid. For those of you that miss it, just mix 1 packet of grape with 1 packet of lemonade, 2 cups sugar and 4 quarts of water.

This was the only flavor of Kool-Aid that I would drink. I was just trying to remember the name of it the other day

Maybe Kool-Aid can bring it back as a nostalgia item

Purplesaurus Rex was my absolute favorite! After it was discontinued, my mom would try to find some for me, and after a long time of looking, we came up with nothing :( I was sad. We were visiting my grandma once, and mom was helping her clean out her cupboards of her old food, and what did she find...a package Purplesaurus Rex Kool-Aid! I don't even remember how it tastes...just the fact that I LOVED it as a kid would make me buy it now if I saw it!

Purplesaurus Rex is still my favorite flavor. I've taken to making it myself (Aaron is correct: I packet of grape, 1 packet of lemonade, 2 cups sugar, 4 qts water...perfect). A lot of my friends (who, apparently, were deprived) had never tried it. I made some a few days ago, now they're hooked. Kraft should really consider bringing it back, if for no other reason? Our nostalgia! haha

My twin sis' and I used to love this stuff!!! I can't believe it has such a cult following. LOL! Glad I'm not the only one. Love all of this nostalgia. Someone should e-mail Kraft and tell them about this blog. Or better yet, start a petition to get it back. Where do I sign? Speaking of nostalgia I was wishing for some Purplesaurus Rex to put on my snowcones from my Snoopy Snow Cone machine. I ordered one....can't believe they are making them again!!! LOL! Aren't childhood memories great?!?

I read a while back that it is still available in Canada, but never found it. Just mix 1 package of Grape and 1 of Lemonade in a gallon container and it is pretty close...

I loved this stuff when I was in university! I am having an 80s-themed birthday party next week and think I may just have to try making some!

I found a few packets still sealed at a flea market inside some promotional Kool Aid cups. Haven't broke down and opened them...yet!!

I had kids in the 80's, but being raised on KoolAid myself, this was my FAVORITE! I still have a packet, won't get rid of it for anything!

I just mixed a pack today and I still have 2 packs in reserve. My other favorite flavor was the Mega Mountain Twists: Grape Berry Splash. It was the closest taste to the Purplesaurus Rex. I found a few packets in an Asian Market and have held on to them for over 15 years!

Incorrect for the 2 people above that said 1 packet of lemonade 1 packet of grape.. You have to play around with the ratio it's considerably more lemonade than grape and even then it's not going to taste exactly like it there are 4 flavors in Rex the other 2 aren't disclosed on the packet.. that helps deter competitors from duplicating it. The only 1 to 1 ratio flavor you can make that I'm aware of is Sunshine Punch. 1 lemonade 1 orange.
