Description
A tasty non-alcoholic beverage with 0.9% in it - drink enough quickly at the age of 12 and you might get a buzz - whether is was from being bloated and high on sugar or the alcohol - it didn't matter. Might have only been in Canada.

I remember going to Becker's and getting a couple Sarasodas during my lunch breaks at my summer warehouse job in Markham. It was definitely 1987.
Elie - April 02, 2009 - Report this comment
Wow, Becker's =),...What a blast from the past..Living in Montreal now...no Becker's here...Just Depanneur's =))
Brendan - April 03, 2009 - Report this comment
The store beside my house use to sell these, But I haven't seen them in a long while, If you are lucky you can recreate the taste by mixing beer with lemonade and sprite (or was that ginger ale...) in about a 40-40-10 mix :)
Brendan - April 05, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes I know... 40+40+10=90... I was tired... make that 45-45-10... and make sure you use the pulp free yellow type of lemonade, not the pink stuff...
Paula - April 13, 2009 - Report this comment
I have used beer and ginger ale to get close to the taste of Sarasoda. There is a beer that has a hint of citrus that has come out recently that may taste even better in this mix combo. Would still love to find Sarasoda again.

Was just thinking about this stuff and this is the only website that comes up when you google it. I like most everyone else, used to drink this stuff as a young teen in the eighties. Anyone know who made it? Is it still out there somewhere?
Tracey - August 16, 2009 - Report this comment
I loved Sarasoda. I first had it in highschool either 1988 or up. I just thought of it the other day & wondered if it's still around. It brings back so many memories.
Andy - August 24, 2009 - Report this comment
This stuff was SOooooo good! Now I feel like, if only I'd drank more and kept on drinking it would still be available. As it was, I drank it strictly during physics class in Gr. XI ('86/'87).
Kim - September 06, 2009 - Report this comment
I loved this drink as well. I only had it at our family cottage in Canada. I think we bought it at Zellars? I think it was in the late 80's. I sometimes come across the taste and wish it was still around. I drink alcohol at all and would love to find a non-alcoholic version.

This was the best drink ever! 1985 or around that time is when I first discovered it. Drank it every summer since then, well until it was no longer available. If you find it let me know kanderson_67@hotmail.com. There is a place in California that sells Renaissance pop or soda called galco's and it is on the internet...sodapopstop

I remember loving this stuff! We used to walk down to the local convenience store (The Honest Crook in Pickering Village) at lunch time in elementary school and drink a few to try and get a buzz. Must have been around 1986 or so. It was good stuff!

I was 7 or 8 drinking sarasoda, small town in manitoba. Mrs. Kenndy the store owner eventually read the label and would not sell it to us anymore. I miss that stuff.

Me and a friend was just talking about Sarasoda. I Googled it and found I wasn't the only one reminiscing about that drink we thought was a wine cooler. The closest thing to Sarasoda I've found today is Casal Domingo Cooler. with 0.5% Alc. Very similar to Sarasoda. I bought one and tried it. It sure brought back memories. LOL
Ron - July 23, 2011 - Report this comment
I believe that John Labatt purchased the company and shut it down as the drink was selling too well and cutting into their beer sales. (I did a web search and found that they own the Sarasoda trademark.) Recently I tried Poppers Ice Light malt beverage (4% alcohol) and found it to be very close. Enjoy!

We had a party for the end of grade 5 in 1986 at West Acres and I brought a 4 pack I bought from Mr. Tan at Applewood Variety. I was half snapped before anybody even caught wind of what I was doing. Love that sweet juvie booze. What happened to it cause daddy needs his fix

I used to buy this stuff from Beckers in Unionville. I think I first found it in 1987 when I was 7 and I remember it disappeared in 1991 or maybe 1992. My dad also used to buy it for me and my brother on the ride up to the cottage each weekend. Here is a commercial for sarasoda : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul8Tz3k9-wQ

Yes it was very similar to grapefruit style fresca zing with a little beer and then something very unique to it self was also in there taht made it very unusually different, and the carbonation was very very high also as I recal too, and it was like nothing else I remember,it was so good. Mt GF parents at the time used to buy it in 87-88, strong memeories of this drink in those summers as I was always drinking it with her in her back yard being 16 at the time, it was the cans too, as I recal they were silver colored.

This was a great drink. It came in bottles and cans where I lived in Toronto. Too bad this drink is gone. The cans were white and the bottles green. I actually had a six pack saved in my room when they took it off the market but my mom put them in the garage and during the winter the cans expolded. :(

I love that so many people relate sarasoda to childhood memories like I do. My mum would send me to buy sarasoda and cameo cigarettes (when minors could buy tobacco and people thought it was safe to send their 5 yr old to the store). I would think I was sooooo cool havin sips of my mums because it had alcohol. Little did I know what a miniscule amount. NEED SOME SARASODA IN MY LIFE AGAIN(might add vodka now tho?!?)

Wow! I think it's great to have found so many people also looking for this elusive drink.I remember the green bottles, and thinking my mom was the coolest for letting me and my best friend drink them. I haven't found anything like it in more than 20 years! Beer shandy doesn't come close.

Wow, this is hilarious!! Like everyone else here I discovered this page while feeling nostalgic and searching for the drink I used to get buzzed on as a youth. I remember drinking it in 1986 when I was 12 years old. Someone even mentioned Applewood Variety in Mississauga - I bought it there too! Here is a fact I haven't seen mentioned here yet - yes, it was 0.9% alcohol when it came out but it was later reduced to 0.5% - they obviously figured out that underagers were getting buzzed off it :) I still remember when that happened - drinking three of them no longer did the trick. Long live Sarasoda, long live the 80s!!

I can't believe the number of people looking for Sarasoda -- I thought I was the only one. LOL! I remember drinking it when I was about 13yrs old. I used to buy it from the local COOP Feed Store just outside the little town of Williamsburg, Ontario where I grew up. I also remember purchasing it in Picton, Ontario while sailing training on the St. Lawrence River / Lake Ontario. Unfortunately, everyone began refusing to sell it to minors once they realized it contained alcohol. (However, at only 0.5%, I don't know what all the fuss was about.) Delicious stuff. Would love to find it again.

I loved Sarasoda! I used to buy it by the case of 24 bottles at the grocercy store. It was the best thing to quench your thirst after working in the sun all day. We should start a pettion to bring it back. You would think some someone, somewhere has the recipe.

I was in a group home at the time and I used to get in trouble for buying it from the corner store and drinking it. It was the late 80's I'd drink this with an Ice'N'Creamy which also can't be found anywhere now.

I don't post on blogs but this deserves a comment. Freaky as it seems I was 11-12 years old when this was around. I remember buying at the Beckers and Oasis markets in Stayner Ontario. My friends and I used to buy truckloads of this. 20 plus years layer I remembered this sweet taste of heaven. With all the weird and crap drinks around today I think it is more then socially acceptable to bring this baby back from the dead. Viva la Sarasoda! Time to petition Labatts!

Hey Jake, You down with the Sens? I love the Ottawa Senators! My friend Denise did the nasty with their third line defenseman two years ago. She's very good looking and hangs at a lot of nice bars. I got with her sometimes. I get looks too. And you're right, Loni Cox, girl. Sarasoda was a sweet taste of heaven. But then Denise said that about the Ottawa player! LOL
