It seems that nostalgia is not dead. I did a simple online search and all of a sudden find a zillion forums where people have expressed their love and fond memories of Sour Cream and Onion Doritos. One major problem though. Frito Lay discontinued them around 25 years ago! On one forum, someone wrote that when contacting Frito Lay, they flat out denied their existence. Yet clearly all the people on these forums remember these chips just like it was yesterday. Most comments about the chips are quite similar, as these folks keep saying that the Sour Cream and Onion flavored Doritos were their favorite. Heck, they were my favorite too! I wonder if the folks at Frito Lay ever visit these forums to find out what people think of their products. If the recipe/formula to Sour Cream and Onion Doritos still exists, then bringing back these wonderful chips would be most logical. After all, how could Frito lay argue with all these folks on deozens of forums? After doing a little research, I discovered that it seems the Sour Cream and Onion Doritos may have only been a regional product. They seem to have been sold primarily in the midwest ststes of the U.S. They came out around 1979. The TV commercials were quite memorable as well. Comedic actor Avery Schreiber was the official spokesperson of this product. His goofy antics certainly must have helped sell this flavor. Sadly though, within two or three years time, Sour Cream and Onion Doritos completely vanished. Nothing new with big companies, as they're always discontinuing products all the time. But according to these forums, it seems that this was Frito Lay's biggest goofup! There have been a couple of feeble attempts by Frito Lay to bring back this flavor including a flavor called Sonic Sour Cream. But the general consensus from true chip officionados have confirmed that this was quite inferior to the original. Others have expressed the opionion that even if they brought back Sour Cream and Onion Doritos, that they wouldn't taste the same due to different ingredients used today to make Doritos. Whether or not Frito Lay ever decides to ressurect the Sour Cream and Onion Doritos, one thing is clear and that is that dozens of people will never forget the impact this flavor had on their taste buds. Sure, it may sound silly but this very flavor inspired these folks to run to their local grocer to buy a big green bag of Sour Cream and Onion Doritos! Sadly, Avery Schreiber is now gone and so is this particular flavor but for those of us who remember, our memories will never die.

I do remember at a young age (I'm 41 now) they had sour cream and onion doritos they were the bomb! I would love to see these come back into existance, and yes frito lay they did exist. I remember when I took money out of my dads coin bank to buy these, I was addicted! I would love love for these to come back and have tried to find someone who sells them. I lived at the time in Hoopeston IL, I bought them at the A&P store and I believe at that time the bags were maybe a little more than 1.00 for a bag of them!

I can't say that I remember SC&O Doritos, but I know for sure I'd buy some if they came [back] out today. Come on Frito-Lay!

I remember those Doritos so well. I loved the green flecks of green onion on them. I could inhale a bag in one sitting. They were so addictive. I would ask my mom to get a bag every Thursday when she went to the grocer's. I would get in trouble in my fourth grade class for sneaking them out of my lunch bag before lunch time! It was definitely worth it!

I don't know how accurate your research is about the chips only being sold in mid-west states. I am from Central Pennsylvania and remember eating sour cream and onion Doritos when I was a small lad.

I really miss these too. For some reason they dropped all but Nacho cheese until cool ranch came along.

I remember Sour Cream & Onion Doritos from when I was a kid in the late 70's, early 80's, I loved them, I bought them whenever I had a chance. It was Nacho cheese, then Taco flavor my next choices. If Frito/Lay's are denying they made Sour Cream & Onion Doritos, then the person who denied it doesn't know what they are talking about. Also it wasn't regional as what was thought, we had them in Connecticut also. If Frito/Lay's could bring back Nacho Cheese Cheetos that came out around the same time & brought it back in the 90's, they can do the same for Sour Cream & Onion Doritos.

I remember these when I was in elementary. It was a green bag that was a cellophane kind of material, it had a big green onion and a window where you could see the chips. I ask people all of the time if they remember these and they look dumbfounded all of the time. I thought maybe it was in my imagination until I saw this site. Too cool!

OMG,I'm so glad so many other people remember these! I have never been able to find one person who remembers them, thought maybe I was going crazy. I grew up in Mass, only about 25 miles outside of Boston, and we had them there. I wish they'd bring them back!

Hilarious! I just googled Sour Cream & Onion Doritos and got this link! I got stitches in my forehead because I couldn't get my Doritos out fast enough and ended up hitting a wall. Fond memories of me in the hospital getting stitced and eating my Doritos!! I am from Georgia and they were here!!

Oh my gosh! What a blast from the past. I am 42 now and I am from Austin, Texas from the west side of town. Those green bags of chips were only 25 cents at the Mini-Mart 1 block away from our house. I absolutely loved those chips and every now and then you would find a CLUMP of sour cream and onion down at the bottom of the bag. They had a very distinguishing taste and I wish to God companies would think long and hard before discontinuing every I like. You know? Like Lemon flavored jolly ranchers and banana and chocolate flavored BOMB POPS and oh let's not forget the WOW-WEE orange Harmonica sold at Halloween time. You could acutally blow it and it kept a tune and then chew on it with that ever so sweet taste til the taste left and wax became sooo hard. I tell ya....seems like the Good Ole' Days are in RETRO-LAND forever. Here's to YESTER-YEARS!! The 70's and the 80's. There will never be a decade like that one!

I remember riding in my Mom's car and passing a Frito-Lay delivery truck in the early 1980's. On the side of the truck were pictures of three flavors: Nacho Cheese, Corn & Sour Cream & Onion. I never saw them in the supermarket, but I never forgot that truck. Ever since then I've wanted to try this mysterious flavor. I can't believe other people remember that favor. I just got off the phone with a Frito-Lay Rep about the new Quest product and I asked her about the sour cream and onion favor. She was not aware of that favor. I told her they should bring that favor back. I was born in the 70's in Mississippi and I remember the chips being in a green bag. They were my favorite.

From that YouTube commercial linked above, I see that the front of the bag says "Artificially Flavored" boldly on the face of the bag. Who knows, maybe the ingredients were found to cause cancer? I live in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, and our local "Mini Mart" carries chocolate and bananna ice cream flavored "Bomb Sticks." I think they are what you refer to as "BOMB POPS."

Truley the best of all chips...I haven't had them since the late 80's....I found them selling in Hawaii on vacation in the late 80's early 90's and remember bringing back a couple of bags because they no longer sold them in southern california....another great flavor was the Taco flavor which is gone as well.....I hope that some Frito CEO with a cutting edge for change will bring back the old flavors at least for a trial run....I'm missing the flavor and those Green Bags!!

Hey, thanks for the info everyone. I never heard of this flavor before but I have heard of the Pizza Hut and the Taco Bell flavors. I didn't like the smell of those-blech! I know I would get hooked on this flavor too because I love sour cream and onion flavored chips.

Thanks for confirming Sour Cream Doritos existed. I live in CT and would have been 7-9 years old when they were on the market back in the late 70's/early 80's. These were my favorite snack back then and I remeber buying the small green bags. This was 25 years ago, but I would say they closely resembled cool ranch in flavor. I have asked a number of people over the last 10 years and no one remebered them.

I remember Sour Cream & Onion Doritos-they were my favorite flavor by far and I miss them!!! The Taco flavor was my other weakness. I remember them from the late 70's to early 80's and I lived in the Deep South. We used to buy these two flavors and take them on camping trips.

This is hilarious! I'm 40, and I thought I was the only weirdo that had imagined eating these as a kid!! I'm glad to see that they were in fact real (despite what the wise folks at Frito Lay might claim). I grew up in Silver Spring, MD and was addicted to buying these from a little store called Ertter's Market next to Montgomery Blair H.S. Wish they would bring them back. They were awesome. Spicy Nacho Cheese is a good consolation, though. :)

I grew up in Nashville, TN and I definitely remember SC&O Doritos! They were almost green in color and my mother refused to buy them just because of the way they looked!!! Not many of my friends remember seeing them.

They were the best. Nothing out here now comes close to how good they were. I don't see why it would be so hard to make them again. They should look back at how people treated Coke after they changed.

I know they sold them in Pittsburgh PA, I use to watch the steelers game while eating sour cream and onion dorito's. They were the very best chips ever...nothing will ever compare!!!!! Sour Cream & Oinion Doritos was favorite corn chip. I emailed Frito Lay in sept.2008 they replied back saying that due to low sales that the product was discontinued. I actually went looking for these chips just now to find out the exact name of them. I was in highschool when I found them but according to people posting it seems like maybe they just did a regional release of them since I was in highschool in 2000. Our school store sold them and they had the same flavor described above. In fact, I believe the bag shown above is the picture from the bag released around 2000 as their newer bag design.

I grew up outside of Philadelphia and specifically remember these. I used to ride my bike to the local grocery store and buy and finish a bag of these with my allowance. I can not for the life of me figure out why they would not want to bring these back. I'm sure they would be a huge seller.

I have been telling friends about these for years. I MISS THEM SO MUCH! They WERE the ABSOLUTE BEST flavor. I have never understood why they had to get rid of them. I remember these and I DID contact Frito Lay about why they don't bring them back. They claimed they weren't a good seller. I loved these things to death!! I remember Sour Cream and Onion in the green bag. Use to get atleast 1 bag per week in the early 1980's. I also remember Taco flavored was good, and think that died out right around when Sour Cream and Onion came along. I tried the Taco at midnight flavor the other day, and it wasn't the same.

I too was a fan of the Sour Cream & Onion Doritos. From the late 70's through the early 80's I bought many bags of em'. The bags then were white with green lettering and a big cheese block on the front.

Actaully, buy the Cool Ranch Dorito's they have today. they taste exactly like the Sour Cream and Onion ones of the past. I'm not sure why they changed the name of them, but they are just as good. It's a blue bag now, not green anymore.

Actually, I don't think the Cool Ranch ones taste anything like the Sour Cream and Onion Doritos. They were the best! When I was a teenager (and skinny!) I could eat a whole large bag in one sitting. The newer flavors just don't compare at all.

When I saw all these comments, I just had to laugh. I was just sharing with my co-workers the story of how I would walk about a mile and half to the store when I had the money to buy a big bag of the SC&O chips. By the time I got home, they would almost be gone. Thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories. I've talked about these chips with my family and friends and it's great to see so many others have great memories as well. Bringing back the way they were orginally would be great, but I doubt they would ever get the flavor right. It's nice to dream!

I can't believe that so many people have the same story!! I LOVED Sour Cream and Onion Doritos when I was a kid...my grandma would always have them at her house and we would have them while watching TV. Every time I ask anyone if they remember them...nobody believes they ever existed. The only other flavor that I liked half as much was the recent White Nacho Cheese...but they discontinued that also. I remember getting these out of a vending machine while vacationing at a "dude" ranch in Parksville, NY, back in the early 80s! We loved them so much, we kept buying them all weekend until the machine was empty. I called Frito Lay in 2000 or so to ask if they still made this variety and the woman I spoke with said the flavor had been discontinued in the mid-80s and the closest flavor now was "Taco," which I think has since been discontinued.

The Sour Cream and Onion were the "Very Best Dorito to Date"!!! I just got an Email from Frito-Lay, and they will not be bringing them back. I just bought the Flavor Collision of Cheesy Enchiladas and Sour Cream. Came home and pick out the ones that were Sour Cream. Damn! -they don't taste anything like the Sour Cream and Onion I remember. Ok there is enough of us. We have got to get a campaign going to have them bring back Sour Cream and Onion Doritos. I was just talking to my wife about them while eating some Cool Ranch. She doesn't remember the SC & O, but it's good that she knows it's not a figment of my imagination. I loved loved loved them...I do remember them coming out when I was in about the 1st grade, about 1979-1980. Around that same time they had the Taco flavored Dorito's (which I would liken to the Chili Cheese Fritos). Hey, didn't they also have a salsa flavor sometime about 15-20 years ago? I wouldn't give up all hope since Retro seems to be a good way for corporations to cash in on recyled ideas, but it's strange that they discontinued some well-loved flavors that obviously made an impression, and yet have stuck with the Cool Ranch for nearly 25 years. "New ideas?" Not so sure, that.

OMG! I LOVED Sour Cream & Onion Doritos. When I was a little girl I remember my mom making a sandwich and we would stop by the store to get SC&O Doritos and then I would go ride ponies with a few of my friends. Great memories.. I'm so glad to know others remember this flavor and want it back too!

OMG! Every so often I think about the exhilariting flavor. This was my Saturday morning, early afternoon meal while watching cartoons. I was SO disappointed when they vanished! Some say that Cool Ranch is comparable --- I say ABSOLUTELY NO WAY! There was a kick of flavor in every bite. Your fingertips were covered with the powdery residue that you washed out in your mouth! They have so many trendy flavors, but Somebody start a petition and I'll be the FIRST to sign it to bring it back like it was.

Man when I was a youngster my Grandmother in San Diego CA. stayed by this store that sold Sourcream and onion Doritos...Best chips hands down they where 25 cents a bag and the bag was stuffed with them...They should bring them back in the summer months or around Super Bowl they would make a killing.....

I remember these chips. I bought a bag on a whim back in the 70s and I was in love with them. I am in NC and they sold these chips here. I used to beg my dad to buy the big 99 cent family bag. I was a kid but I could eat the whole bag. I wish Frito Lay would bring them back. I missed that big green bag of doritos especially with a Coke.

I wonder if the fact Frito Lay dismissed they ever existed as one person here commented, if it is because there was a health danger ingredient in them & they don't want to get sued for past consumption & then took them off the market quickly & quietly. That is just a possible speculation though. OR, they have their own secret reasons why, or maybe they just didn't have the sales available to support continued distribution.

It's so funny that I have read this today! I went to Wal-Mart today and they had these doritos that have two flavors in the bag - one of the flavors was SOUR CREAM! They are so good - not exactly the same as they use to be but close!

I miss these chips, they are one of the best chips ever made, and I am a chip freak. Please bring them back.

I remember those Sour Cream & Onion Doritos like yesterday. I used to get a bag everyday. And they were only .49 cents a bag. I think about those chips almost everyday. I saw that they had brought out anotha Sour Cream & Onion but it wasnt the same. Nope not the same. And I wish they would read this site and try to make a replica of them or something. I told my husband about them and he was like "WHAT?" Im obsessed with those chips.

I miss these soooo much. .. The lime green color of the bag and the see-through window so you could actually see the chips inside. They were the best chips ever. They discontinued them to make Cool Ranch Doritos-they're ok but no comparison to Sour cream & onion.

I have asked my husband as well as others if they remembered sour cream and onion doritos and they had no idea what I was talking about. I was telling my 13 year-old daughter how good they were and was trying to describe how good they taste. The ranch doritos are as close as they get, but nothing can compare. I used to buy them from a corner store on the way to school @ 56th & market in west philly while waiting for the 31 bus. Wow, what a thing to eat so early in the morning, but they sure were good!!! I surely would love to see them back in the stores again and that would be to stay!!!!

I often try to contact frito lay to ask them what ever happened to the best potato chip that ever existed, and of course they say that there was no sour and cream doritos. Now this web site is proof that they did exist and I wasn't alone in eating them. its like when people say they've abducted by aliens and no body believes them, well I was abducted by aliens along with the sour and onion doritos. lol........

If they came back I am sure I'd be seriously disappointed if they were not the original recipe! They were so good, I have often hoped with all the new flavors appearing that they would resurrect the original SC&O Doritos over the years. It was a big disappointment when they took them off the market...I couldn't figure out why...they were the best, even better that the nacho cheese! I used to eat these all the time. They were the best! Come on Frito Lay! Surely you have people there that remember these. Retro is in. Instead of new flavors, why not at least do a test run in this new era? "Classic Sour Cream and Onion". I think they would sell real well now. I loved these things too. I seem to vaguely remember somebody ate way too many bags at one sitting and died. They may have sued and told Frito Lay never to make them again as part of the suit or Frito Lay said we won't ever produce these again.

I live in Seattle, and had never heard of Sour Cream and Onion Doritos until I was in Hawaii in 1991. I had to buy them, and they were so good, but I have never seen them again, not even in later trips to Hawaii. I wish Frito Lay would bring them back!!

The best was Sour cream and onion Dorito's with a pb&j sandwhich. My mother couldn't keep a bag of those in the house for more than 2 days. I want those back. Frito Lay would make a killing in profits if they did. But apparently they don't need any extra money. Too sad:(

I am from New York City, and my sister and I loved these chips...I distinctly remember the big bag, eating them on Rockaway Beach...the chips had little green flakes on them, and man, this chips were awesome...seriously, NOTHING tasted better...maybe it was just our New York attitude, but we always thought they were discontinued because they were too good to be god for you, like maybe they had an unhealthy chemical in them...who knows...i still want to find out why Doritos either denies they existed, fails to remember them, or worse, why they can't bring them back...I mean, duh, they would outsell anything...bet they caused cancer. lol hope not...i ate enough of them! I wrote to Frito Lay also and essentially got the same reply (word for word) as Sandy did. So, they clearly have a template response that's sent when they receive. I think the key difference here though, is that we're contacting them regarding a product from 25 years ago (!), thus, I think the loyalty (and memory) that people have towards this product should be noteworthy, meaning this is not just some random fad from the past several years! I think more people should write in and also specifically highlight how remarkable it is that we vividly remember one of their products from 25 years ago--I can't imagine this is a frequent occurrence for Frito Lay or, for that matter, any other food/snack company!!

OMG...i thought i was the only one. i used to eat these by the bag fulls. i remember them in a green and white bag. taco flavored were in the light-brown bag and nacho cheese in the orange and white. everyone i talk to about it says i'm mistaken. i know better. i was in Corpus Christi, TX and ate them for a couple of years. i was thinking Cool Ranch ruined it. I have been talking about these forever with my hubby, he didnt remember them from being a kid (I'm 42 and he's a tad younger than me). Today I get a text on my phone..it was a picture of a doritos bag, 1/2 the bag is cheesy enchilada...the other half....wait for it.....SOUR CREAM. Run, dont walk to you store and see if you can find them. I promise you that the sour cream ones taste exactly like the ones I remember from the late 70s early 80s. Now if we can just convince them to put them in a bag alone (not real crazy about this other flavor with them). My favorite was the SC&O Doritos. I grew up in the Chicago area. Today when I was at the store I saw the combo pack and just had to buy them. Not exactly the same but heck it is sour cream. I wish they would come out again.

Wow! I can't believe I had forgotten about those magical chips. They were the flippin'BOMB of bomb's. Brought back original Taco just recently, so maybe Frito Lay will wake up. Then they can discontinue LATE NIGHT TACO and a few other horrible flavors.

Not old enough(21) to have experienced the original sour cream and onion but when I was in elementary school we had Sonic Sour Cream Doritos and they were amazing. Everyone says cool ranch is the same flavour but cool ranch is nothing like the sonic sour cream other than not being cheese based.

I finally did a search for sour cream and onion doritos after telling my kids about them for years! I think they have heard from me how awesome they were a zillion times and how Friday nights I had my pop and sour cream and onion doritos and watched The Incredible Hulk. Oh those were the days! I don't know what Dorito were thinking when they ending it. As for most of you they have ended it twice now! I noticed that none of you saw them in the late 90's. They were good but definitely not the obviously euphoria-inducing SC & O from the days of yore. The people at Frito Lay denying the existence are probably 18-25 and like so many of that generation, can't possibly imagine the world existing outside of themselves. Please!!!! with the recent trends toward nostalgia on all sides, (i.e. Coke and Pepsi's "original recipe" sodas) lets open the vault, bring back the original recipe with the original ingredients. Heck, Doritos are $4 a bag anyway if you don't find them on sale. I'd pay $5 for those all day long. Give it a shot; market to the middle-aged, middle-income at the Costco's and Sam's Clubs. OK - so a group of us just got into it about the sour cream and onion flavor in the green package, and no one remembers them but me....so I decided to look it up online....and surprised to see how many remember and love that flavor of chip!!! MY GOD - PLEASE BRING IT BACK EVEN IF FOR JUST A LIMITED TIME like the taco flavor...(no where near as good as sour cream) - - -I have a memory of that taste so vivid and that was 30 years ago!!! There is page after page for the return of sour cream and onion, which is the most common flavor for a chip there is, and yet they don't bring them back. What the hell??!

This is wild. The first post on this subject in June of 2007. That's four years of numerous people requesting that Sour Cream & Onion flavored DORITOS be brought back with no results. I remember that taste so well. It was such a robust flavor. The only one that ever came close was the Taco flavor. I could be mistaken but the texture of Doritos have change and not for the good. One of my favorite chips now is sour cream & onion flavored Ruffles.

I'm 23, but I ate these chips like a fiend when I was 10-13ish. All of my friends laugh when I talk about them, but damn, they were so good. SO much flavor. Nothing like SSC Doritos and a cold Mountain Dew in the can. Healthy.

The Sour Cream and Onion Doritos were sold everywhere. I live in Atlanta and in the 70's they were my favorite! Doritos brought back Taco flavor, which doesn't sound like it is very flavorful (maybe it is), but I with they would bring this one back. The flavor was GREAT!! I loved it!

I'm 45 and I grew up in southern NJ. I have been unable to convince anyone I know that sour cream & onion doritos existed. These were absolutely my favorite chip of any kind. I can't understand why F-L is wasting time with all those weird flavors (like those disgusting cheeseburger doritos)when sc & o is a classic and much loved chip flavor. I was devastated when these doritos were discontinued. I'm so glad I (accidentally) found a place where people understand what I'm takling about.

I just told Frito Lay that I won't buy (and I don't) any other flavor of Doritos because none of them live up to Sour Cream and Onion. If all of us do this it might be worth it to them to start making Sour Cream and Onion Doritos again.

OM Gosh, I cannot believe there is an actual Forum for Sour Cream and Onion Doritos. During my senior year in HS I would eat a bag everyday after school when I got of the bus with a 16oz Coke (in a glass bottle). This is amazing, I will be looking for them in my area.

Found these at my local Indiana Wal-Mart on 1/12/12!! They were hiding in the Electronics department! Bag says Limited Edition... Funny, but I don't think they taste the same as they did when I was a kid!!

Yeah, these were the best chip in the 80s, that somehow came and went in less than three months. I found a Superbowl display at a CVS Pharmacy in Los Angeles, which was near the checkout area, and they were 3-3/8oz bags (the big snack sized bag) for about $1.40 per bag, so I bought 10. Wow! They're just how I remember them - every chip is over-coated with the tasty powder. They appear to be limited, so grab some while you can. The expiration date on the bag is 2/8/12.

I just bought a bag of sour cream and onion doritos at a dollar general store in my area. I too have longed for them to return. I also had them as a child and were my favorite. It they can come out with some off the wall flavors, surely they could bring them back.

I'm 42 years young and I do regiment sure cream and onion ddoritos as a kid they were my favorite. Please frito lay bring them back.

I remember these as a kid and Remember that the original sour cream and onion were a little light on the flavor and then were updated with a bolder sour cream and onion flavor and a few years later were discontinued . I wish the bolder flavored ones would come back.

Im originally from connecticut but live in pennsylvania for 8 yrs now im 45 yrs old and remember like it was yesterday late 70's- early 80's besides original flavor doritos my friends and i were huge huge fans of sour cream&onion doritos. I personally think they were the most flavorful dorito ever made. Lets face it after all these yrs clothing styles and much more are coming back so y not sour cream&onion doritos? for those who have said they found sour cream and onion doritos your WRONG frito lay rep has just told me they have NOT reissued them ANYWHERE. so i dont know what y'all are seein'. they also dont make cheeseburger doritos -granted they are a oo's thing but i personally think the cheeseburger ones are the best of the doritos line. cool ranch used to be my fave til they stopped tasteing the way they did when they were first introduced, sour cream and onion sound yummy and i wish i could try them:)

In the late 70's early 80's t here was (3) things u did on a Friday night in south Louisiana...(1) you watched sha na na (2) u watched dance fever and (3) u ate sour cream and onion Doritos..all I can say is yummmmy that was the good ol days on the bayou...lol

These were the best chips this side of heaven. They tried to recreate them but it's not the same. I would literally look at each Dorito and eat the ones with the most green on them first lol. People didn't believe me when I told them they existed. Lol I finally found my family.

Hope, is on eBay when you search for item number 520120684081 straight from Israel. I've myself never had these however I have had the dorito chips ice cream toppers that where discontinued. Although I will add this to my to do list.

Yes, I remember the Sour Cream and Onion Doritos from late 70's early 80's a bag was only 25 cents. They were the bomb I remember buying them along with the Rock Creek soda. Everyone I ask did they remember looked at me like I was from another planet surprislingly people don't remember back and the day treats.

I called Frito Lay and they told me, too that The Sour & Onion "never existed!! I told them they are either ingnorant in the history of their product line or malicious deceptors and a manager, or someone, came on and told me I'd "better stop speading that gossip, or else!" I asked for his name and he got nervous and them hung up. I'll calling back ever week. Please, everyone do the same. This is a conspericy of the most corrupt.

I'm 44 today and have lived in the southeast all of my life. I often wondered about these magical chips and quick google search led me here. If Frito Lay denies the existence of these chips, then what else from my youth is a figment of my imagination? I vividly remember walking to my corner store in the early '80s and discovering this green bag of heaven. It seems like I made a daily journey to procure these culinary delights. Accompanied by a Mellow Yellow and a $100,000 bar, I was in completely content. One day out of the blue the green bags were missing. I was crushed. To Frito Lay I say, shame on you for discontinuing production and you owe a huge apology to my taste buds. Cool Ranch may be a close mimic to SCO Dorritos, but I my mind, they're not even comparable. I miss you green bag! You were a memorable part of my youth.

Sour Cream & Onion Doritos where my favorite snack food. In the late 70's early 80's every Friday after collecting money from my paper route I would by a big green bag for 99 cents and go home to watch TV. I actually think something happened involving a law suite with the flavor and someone possibly getting sick. Not sure but that's what I remember and could be the reason why Frito Lay is so mysterious about their existance. More research is needed!

I can't believe so many people love Sour Cream and Onion Doritos like me!! As a kid in the late 70s I would sit on the floor right up in front of the TV and watch 'Kung-Fu" and eat SC&O Doritos. Those were the best of times and SC&O Doritos were a big part of the magical time in my life. They were my all time favorite flavor and I wish they would bring them back AND use the original recipe. The old chips were LOADED with the SC&O powder like todays Nacho cheese flavor is.

I remember in the early '80's getting these at an IGA in Newville, PA. I am surprised that so many people besides me remember them. I took many bike rides to IGA to spend chore /and/or allowance money on them.

I am 43, the youngest of 5 siblings, and there was a convenient store five houses down from the house I grew up in. We called it the Quick Shop, in Westwood, Cincinnati, OH. I would go there as maybe a 8 or 9 year old and buy them for the family because no one else liked them! I had them all to myself! Which, being the youngest of the family, was quite the steal! That store also sold me cigarettes when I had a note from my dad. Ahh, the good ole days!

Way back in 1977, I used to save my bus money and walk home from Page Middle School just so I could have enough money to buy a bag of Sour Cream & Onion Doritos. I ate the whole bag by myself as I walked home and I didn't have to share because I was the only one in my family that liked them...which is an understatement because I could replace an entire meal if I had a bag of these amazingly delicious corn chips. They were real and they were the best flavor that Doritos ever made. They brought them back for awhile about a year or two ago but, we're back to having only the memory of our beloved Sour Cream & Onion Doritos.

A little over a year ago I found a bag at my Local Kroger store. I immediately bought it. I contacted Frito Lay about bringing them out again maybe as a promo. If we all email thm we might be able to get them to move on this.

Back in 86 my 14 yr old son and I would ride my motorcycle to a convenience store and get a large bag of sour cream and onion Doritos and two 16 oz mountain dews. I would love to relive those days.

The Sour Cream and Onion Doritos were fantastic. My favorite of all the Doritos flavors. I even liked the green bag they were packaged in! I agree with the Mountain Dew comment, although coke was bringing out Mello Yello at that time and I had my fair share of those as well!
