Description
There used to be a couple of brands of square waffles that were thicker and more like homemade than Eggo waffles. Strangely, you can't find square frozen waffles anywhere today - all that's out there are Eggos and Eggo knock-offs. In my opinion, an Eggo is a poor substitute for a real waffle. The square ones used to come a little bit closer to homemade at least. :(

I recently looked for the square Aunt Jemima ones and realized they didn't exist (at least at my stores). Oh well...

Aunt Jemima and Downflake Waffles original recipes were sold to other popular companies. Read a bit of the story below: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1996-05-29/business/9605290234_1_waffles-brand-ad-spending

I rem the square waffles when I was coming up in te 90's. They were sooo good! For a toaster waffle they were soft and delicious! I never liked eggos they get hard and cut your gums almost lol! I wish they would bring them back!

You get more waffle when they are square. So a waffle that was 4 inches square equals 16 square inches. A round waffle that's 4 inches across equals 12.56 square inches. (It's just a small part of the marketing game.)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's gone around town to different stores on a mad hunt for square waffles lol. I user to be able to eat Eggos by the box, but they're nothing like they used to be :(
