Description
A tasty snack that had various toppings in a half shell crisped rice base. I recall sour cream and onion were a personal favorite. I do not recall the year which they came out, but I do remember purchasing this product around 1986.

I remember in 1986 or so, in Malibu, California getting these snacks at the local market. I thought they were a West Coast only product. I remember the bleu cheese flavored Stuffers and never found them on the East Coast. Does anyone know who made them?

They were actually like Combos but they had a thinner crooked shell around the cheese. They had cheddar and Nacho cheese in Massachusetts. How I miss them so. :/

I remember buying "Shotzels" in cellophane packs of 3 for like, a nickel or something in my elementary school cafeteria in the 70's. Really hard to find any info on them being the original version of what we have in combos today...

Stuffers were made and sold in the Mid-1980s by Frito-Lay, according to Michael Moss in his excerpt in the New York Times titled "The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food."

I LOVED Stuffers back in the day. I only ever remember having the Nacho cheese flavored ones here in Michigan but they were the best snack ever. Will never understand why they didn't catch on. Sounds like maybe they were only ever in test markets.

OK, I'm not crazy. I was beginning to think I made it all up. Everyone I described them to thought I was nuts, but I clearly remember these amazing Combos-like Sour Cream and Onion snacks called Stuffers. Whenever my mom and I would go to Dallas, she would buy me a bag for being "a good girl". I always looked forward to those trips because I knew I'd be getting a bag of Stuffers. I'm glad I'm not the only one who knows about them.
