Description
It was similiar to the layout of TWIX by having two skinny bars in the silver wrapping paper. It really wafery and tasted great.

I long for a Summit Candy Bar. I am not a candy bar fan...but that Summit Candy Bar... I crave them. I wish I knew they were to be "retired" and I would have purchaced CASES of them and stored them in a freezer. I would love to just SEE an old wraper that someone saved... a picture of what it looked like... There is NOTHING ELSE that compaires to the taste of a Summit Candy Bar. Does anyone agree? If you have a picture or other info, please email me dave . taylor @ blackbox-vs . com Thanks! Dave

I have wondered about/longed for the Summit bar literally for decades... As a kid in the early 80's, I always thought it was interesting how similar they were to Twix - but slightly better in my opinion. My theory on their fate (pretty clear if you think about it) is that they were forced out of business by Twix: either took a buyout from Twix's parent company to stop producing a candy that was such a direct competitor or knuckled under to possible legal threats... Does anyone remember the Go Ahead bar - especially the main national TV commercial for it?
Nestor - May 04, 2008 - Report this comment
I miss that candy bar. It was my favorite. The fun part if it was when is would melt it was a challange to eat.
Sara - May 11, 2008 - Report this comment
When I was a kid in the early 80's, my sister left for a babysitting job and forgot her Summit Bar on the tool bench in the garage. I knew she would be gone for hours and there was no way I could wait for her to get home so I could ask her for a bite, so I ate it and figured I'd deal with the consequences later. I bet she was thinking of it the whole time she was babysitting--clueless that I was eating it for her. Ha! I though back then that they were made by the same company as Twix because of the similarity.
Angela - May 15, 2008 - Report this comment
It would be great if someone contacted the company that made the Summit Bar and they brought it back. I loved them when I was a child. It is a shame I can't pass the experience with my children.
Bob - May 18, 2008 - Report this comment
I am SO glad that SOMEBODY (i.e. Shana) remembers that the original "give me a break" did NOT belong to KitKat, it belonged to Summit Candy Bars. For years people thought I was crazy (which might be true but for other reasons), the "give me a break" belonged to Summit first.
Chris - June 13, 2008 - Report this comment
These were my favorite candy as a child. I remember they had an orange wrapper. If I remember correctly, the candy was changed/reformulated for a short period of time with a new grey/blue wrapper. I remember being so disappointed when they changed it. I hated the new Summit bar. I wish I could have one now. The original was the best.
Justin - June 13, 2008 - Report this comment
I to love the summit bar, I remember seing one in a tree as boy and asked my grandpa to get it for me but he wouldn't because it was too high now that I'm 6 foot 7 I always have to touch the spot where the summit bar was, oh well if they would just get a clue and bring it back I would buy a case of a 1000 so that it would stay around.

U BET THEY WERE THE GREATEST CANDY BARS EVER, MY HUSBAND AND I; BOTH AGREE THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED THE SALE OF THIS MOST MAGNIFICENT TASTING CANDY BAR "SUMMIT BAR". WE WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SHARE THIS DELICIOUS TREAT WITH OUR CHILDREN.

Deloris-"The Summit was the BEST candy bar of all times. I so vividly remeber the tasty chocalate, wafers, and peanuts. I so long to relive that pleasant memory. In every city I have ever visited in the world, I have searched with fingers crossed for the Summit. I wish I could influence the manufacturers to bring back those glorious days. " Krista-"Every morning I wake up and my mother is sitting at my bed staring at my face. She tells me I look a Summit Candy Bar. W ehave an entire drawer filled with Summit wrappers. Sometimes she takes the wrappers out and lays them on the ground and licks them. She cries when she reminsces on the sweet and savory taste of this candy bar. I wish I could somehow taste one for myself; or for my mother and I to share a bar and share a beautiful bonding moment. My mother even named our dog Summit! I hope I get the chance to taste the SUMMIT BAR!!!!!!"

I remember the summit bar. I believe that the original came in an orange-red and brown wrapper. Then they changed the formula, and the wrapper became silver, with ornange and yellow writing. I do not recall the wrapper ever being blue as one of the people on this site suggested. Those of you who remember Summit Bar may also recall a similar candybar, the Bar None from Hersheys, also discontinued. It was good, then alas, they too changed the formula, adding caramel, and it was not as good as the original. Shortly thereafter, they discontinued the Bar None, except I have read on other sites that it is still made in Mexico. Another person recalled the Go-Ahead bar and queried about commercials for it. I distinctly remember a commercial for the Go-Ahead bar that involved an Abbot and Costello routine. I think the Go-Ahead came out aout the same time as the original Witchemecallit Bar, which was also ruined, in my opinion, when they revamped it to include caramel.
candygirl - August 09, 2008 - Report this comment
Summit and Twix were made by the same manufacturer. They were both introduced at the same time. Twix with it's cookie crunch and caramel and Summit with it's wafers and peanut butter. I remember the commercial with the Mountain climbers and the jingle; "It's Summit, after only one bite, Summit, after only one bite, 'cause it's chocolate, peanuts and, chocolate, peanuts and LITE...." I also remember when they discontinued the Summit bar, they introduced a 'new' Twix....the regular one with the cookie crunch and caramel, and the one with peanut butter.....I guess it was to compensate for the missing Summit bar..

The absolute best candy bar EVER!! It's funny, because I remember the Summit bars from when I was a kid, and I remember president reagan was set to engage in some very important conferences with the Russian leader micheal gorbachev (I'm sure it's spelled wrong). They called these conferences "SUMMIT" conferences! The candy bar was out around the same time that these conferences were taking place. I'm sure that one didn't have anything to do with the other, but I think it's a cool coincidence nonetheless!

I so loved the Summit candy bar in the 80's. I remember when they were going to discontinue it, my friend bought like 20 or more wrapped them, and gave it to me for Christmas. I treasured every bite of those remaining candy bars and didn't share with anyone! I also would look for this and the Marathon bar (my 2nd favorite) in candy shops around the world when I travel hoping that someplace else has a clue that these are the best candy bars ever invented and still carry them, but to no avail. I don't like Twix.

I was actually looking it up now to see if they were sold anywhere else. There are alot of companies that sell old time candies. I am frustrated, not my Summit bar. I loved them. The company that stopped making them are so stupid to stop making such a wonderful candy. What a loss.

Summit came out at the same time TWIX did. I remember because my mom worked at a little Ben Franklin store where they were sold. I remember the orange & brown wrapper and I'll never forget the taste! Reese's Stix are the closest thing I've tasted. But they're not as good as Summit.

I could not agree more with mrhanman. No Summit AND no Bar None? Why keep coming up with fifty varieties of one product that stray too far from a good thing to be considered worthy of a consumer? Use those funds to bring back a tried and true product, even if only for a limited time, to test the waters of consumer interest. If you want to add caramel to something? Leave the option to purchase the original product and monitor sales before just getting rid of the original item that allowed for the split off in the first place. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I LOVED this candy bar! After reading through all of the comments, I still haven't figured out if we know for sure who made it. I thought it was Mars. Wonder why they WON'T bring it back. Even if for a limited edition offering. Has anyone ever tried to contact the original manufacturer? I just know that someday we'll have an opportunity to wrap our lips around this amazing candy bar...but then again, things NEVER are the way we remembered them...I wouldn't want to be disappointed!

The closest thing currently available to a Summit Bar is the Reese's Sticks. They're not exactly the same, as I remember, but pretty darn close! Close enough that my taste-buds were initially fooled into thinking that Reese's bought the recipe and re-named it!

Hey, got another one that tastes a lot like the Summit Bar - the new Baby Ruth Crisp bars. I know, Baby Ruths taste nothing like Summit Bars did, but I swear the new BR Crisp bars are even closer than Reese's sticks to tasting like Summit Bars because unlike Reese's sticks, the BR Crisp bars have peanuts on top of the waffers just like Summit, though they're not all chopped up like Summit. Saw them at the gas station this morning and thought I'd give them a try - always a sucker for new candy bars ;^) And as soon as I took my first bite, right away I thought of the Summit Bar! The Baby Ruth Crips also has 2 in a pack, but not sticks, more like fun size bars. Seriously, try one and you'll see what I mean. Rock out!
