Description
popular wine cooler that came in 2 liter bottles and various flavors. It came out during the initial wine cooler craze and was actually a decent tasting drink. The label was bright yellow, not sure when it phased out of popularity.

Yes I remember this. Light booze that came in a plastic bottle like soda. Made you feel sick quick.

This was the drink that I got buzzed on for the first time in 8th grade! I'm sure 8 of us split a bottle... Ah, memories.

two liter peach sun country was the 1st booze I bought back in the 10th grade. Got a slight buzz, but mostly it made me have to take a leak.

Those were the days man! In Mentor, Ohio we had drive through liquor stores and we would get someone over 21 to drive thru with us and buy a bunch of 2liters of Sun Country for our parties. Good times man.....good times:)

The only other wine cooler I remember drinking a lot of was Matilda Bay in the box. Remember those commercials? haha

What about California Coolers? We used to get 3 bottles, at $2.89 each from Flying J. Those were good times!

I was beginning to think I was the ONLY person alive who remembers Sun Country Coolers. They were .99/2liter. My Mom would stock the fridge with them at the beach house. Ahhhhhhhh. Those were the days. Nothing like laying out in the hot sand with a SCC hangover.

Y'know, we used to drink mad bottles of this stuff, floating lazily on truck inner tubes at Lake Norman back in the mid-80's...but I never remembered 2 liter plastic bottles! Just the green glass bottles with gold foil around the neck. The label had a picture of a sailboat with the sun setting behind a mountain. The taste was very citrusy and rich - not like that awful Bartles & Jaymes or Seagrams stuff. It was delicious and gave everyone a good buzz-on. Good times...good times!
Tod - July 29, 2009 - Report this comment
I remember Sun Country Peach Wine Cooler. I thought it was the most refreshing wine cooler I ever tasted. I wish it was still around because I do not find anything comparable these days.

OMG!! I talk about Sun Country wine Coolers all the time! I told my husband that we used to drink these like water in the 80's, out of a 2 liter bottle and he didn't believe me! I googled it and here it is! I loved this stuff! :)

I could sometimes sneak them through at the grocery store by putting one or two of these 2 litre bottles in with a bunch of soda bottles. Remember the 'sludge' at thr bottom, it was like fruit pulp or something? Ah, I lost my virginity on a 2 liter of Sun Country. They were made by the same people who now make the Arbor Mist wine coolers.

I worked for a wine distributor that picked up SCC when they first came out. They exploded on to the scene;couldn't keep enough of it in stock.i remember the first 3 flavors were citrus, orange & peach. Then they came out with cherry & some other flavor(can't recall). They kinda fizzled out almost as fast as they came on to the market.

My friends and I would drink this before school (along with MD20-20), part of the Breakfast Club, then Genny Cream Ale after school. Good times!!!!

I so remember those things. When I first turned 21 we would buy them for the girls and they loved them. I remember they had actual fruit pulp in them. I drank them some but we had beer and the girls all drank those things. definitely good memories.

Oh the memories ... I got toooorn up on these a couple of times in high school. Can't remember my flavor of choice. There was a drive-thru a couple of towns away that would sell to just about anyone tall enough to drive. According to Wikipedia, they don't exist anymore -- taken over by Mike's Hard Lemonade, I guess!

I was just telling a college-age person about the cooler craze when I was in HS in the 80s. We use to cruise parties--each with our own 2-liter in hand and slug on it all night. Hilarious. Funny I don't remember it making me sick, but it sure would today. Would be like drinking a 2-liter of Squirt in a couple hours. Ouch.
OZZY - July 07, 2011 - Report this comment
Back in the mid eighty's 2 two liter bottles of sun country would knock you down. citrus was the best flavor. it tasted like fresca but better. they were made illegal. I really loved sun country. I would still be an active alcoholic if they were available now.
Kimcho - August 18, 2011 - Report this comment
We'd drink those 2 litres all summer while deep-frying in Hawaiian tropic on the beaches of Lake Michigan! Come fall, we'd be toting them to all the college house parties instead of waiting around a keg for a beer which was mostly foam. I always sing,"SUN COUNTRY WAAAN COOLUHHHH!!" Talk about feeling old, nobody where I work has ever hear of Sun Country before, especially in a 2 liter bottle. They never made me sick physically, but the last few swigs that were warm from sitting in the hot sun made me shudder! They should definitely be re-introduced!

Way to GO Jacie! I, and my frind Doug, Jim and Karl were around 19, 20 and 21 in 1986 and around 1987 and WE bought you babes those coolers along with Calvin's Coolers and Bratals & James. And we nailed you big time!!! But it was all good! You loved it and we loved doing it. Let's do it again. Loved the young puss, but then again, you wanted it. They were the best of times. Long live the 1980's! You the girl, Jackie!

^^ hilarious! Older siblings and cool parents would get these for us in St.Louis in the late 80s. Good times, roaming the neighborhood with a buzz, first kisses, drama, good music. Great memory :)

2 liter bottles when I couldn't afford beer. Didn't matter the flavor they all went down like soda pop. It was a cheap drunk but a horrible hangover. Great times. Great memories. Loved the 80s.

I loved the peach Sun Country wine coolers. I only remember them in packs of 4 glass bottles. It was the most amazing peach flavor! No peach flavored anything, before or since, has ever tasted as wonderful to me.

They were made near Ruby, SC. I'm not sure when the last ones were made but there's just empty buildings there now.

great tasting! Wish you could still get them. Being from central New York and being a dirt modified racing fan, they actually sponsored the Super Dirt Series in between CRC and Skoal in 1986!

I drank my share of Tropical Sun Country at a New Years Eve party in Columbia Heights back in 1987. While dancing to Madonna and preparing to ring in the new year, i threw up on my dance partner, staining her knit sweater with the purple concoction along with an earlier Tasty Pizza. The party host as well as the girl with the stained sweater were not happy.

I remember asking older people, any stranger would do, to buy us citrus sun country wine coolers 2ltrs. Then we go into the woods and ride on our BMX bikes tracks we made. Great times! Crazy how they just vanished. Mandela effect I guess.

When I ask someone if they drunk Sun Country Wine coolers in the 80's they don't know what I'm talking about. I looked them up to make sure they weren't a figment of my imagination. I spent a lot of 80's nights with my 2 liter bottle.

Sun Country Cherry in a 2 liter bottle was a huge hit at my high school-and was actually really tasty! We'd have SCC parties where everyone had a 2 liter bottle. The mornings after were not fun.

Back in 1986/87 I was a senior at high school in West Virginia and a friend of ours that we used to skip school with brought a couple of 2-liter bottles of Sun Country wine cooler. During lunch, we went out to his car and guzzled it down and went to the afternoon classes with a nice buzz. Hilarious that so many of you have similar memories!

As any normal high school boy in the 80's, the main mission for the weekend was to swoop hot chicks and score. These 2 liter wine coolers were always stocked in a cooler of ice in the back of the Camaro and made scoring a breeze. Cops never checked trunks back then I guess but they sure enjoyed tapping on my fogged up windows. Lol.
