Description
Basically, an overgrown version of the current Taco Supreme, the shell was bigger than the usual tacos...the first time I ever heard of Sour Cream, much less what you could put it on. A mainstay in my diet at the time, debuted roughly 1985.

After high school when I was almost an adult, the only places open late for food by me was Taco Bell, White Castles or a shady burrito joint in the questionable part of the city. These were the best, especially if you let them sit and slightly nuked them in that wonderful newer convenience called the microwave.

I believe that the shell was also of flour rather than corn. I remember it being paler and flakier than the normal taco shells.

I am tempted to bring petition to bring back the Taco Bell Grande! These current tacos are small, and infirm. The hardshells were corn, not flour. Roughly the size of the beef Burrito surpreme; but in a handy crispy form.

Taco Bell Grande was my favorite. Never had anything come close to its unique texture and flavor.

The Taco Lite was made with a flour tortilla, slightly smaller than the flour tortilla used for Taco Salad shell; and the Taco BellGrande was made with a large corn tortilla. Both came with sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. We fried all of the shells in the store. We cut the tortillas before frying them to make nachos. The meat was 100% beef, and came raw, in ten pound bags, and WE cooked it. We cooked the pinto beans in a pressure cooker, and then drilled them until they were creamy. Today, when I eat at Taco Bell, I long for the days when the food was fresh and flavorful. When they started bringing in pre-cooked and pre-fried products, the quality died.

I long for those days too, Flora. Taco Bell was my favorite back in the 70's and 80's.

Anyone remember Del Taco? There were some in San Antonio. I guess taco bell put them out of business.

Taco Bell's Taco Bell Grande was awesome. The HARD CORN SHELL was about a foot long (these may have been available in a soft shell, I never asked). They are just like the current "Taco Supreme" but much much larger. Del Taco is still around. But not in every state they used to be.

Taco Bellgrande was my absolute fav right next to the saucy bean burrito, which was a burrito in a tray with red sauce, onions and cheese. No taco supreme can come close to the joy of a taco bellgrande

Does anyone remember the super taco? It was a combo of meat, bean, and red sauce mixture, poured into a taco bell grande shell, with lettuce and cheese?

The Taco Bell Grande also had black olives... at least in Waco. the Pizazz Pizza also had four black olive slices and green onions.

In the movie demolition man all restaurants in the future were Taco Bell. The Taco Bell grande and the original chicken burrito were probably the main reason for that. Since then Taco Bell has lost charm and appeal though still my favorite fast food. Bring back the Taco Bell grande ASAP make Taco Bell great again!
