Description
Ice cream with the candy and stuff (oreo/m&m/reese's/etc.) all blended together in those cups. It is sad that there are kids today who think that the McFlurry (rip-off) was the first, but it wasn't.

I do remember the blizzard; I did not eat it that much when I was younger, but now I eat them all the time. The best sweet treat.

I had a few blizzard when I was younger, but now I get more whenever I go to the Dairy Queen, but not all the time. Iremember when the cups used to have Dennis the Menace cartoon cover on the cover.

My dad used to "ask for just one taste" whenever I got a Blizzard ... once I got one with Heath bits and he darn near ate the whole thing! He kept asking for "Just ONE more taste ..."

Mmmmmm, blizzards! I still love these, but we don't have one for who knows how long around here. My grandpa used to walk us down from our beach house in Oceanside, CA to the DQ after we hit News Stand for "funny books". I always ordered the same thing: regular size butterfinger blizzard. I still order that if I can find a DQ.

It used to come in the Dennis the Menace cups

The Butterfinger flavored Blizzard is the top-telling, best tasting Blizzard of All-Time

YES! indeed nerd blizzards were the best. D Q needs to bring that back. Flintstones push pops with nerds were also great.

Is it just me or has Dairy Queen ice cream gotten worse over the years? Maybe my tastes have changed over time, but now it tastes to me like... not much of anything. Anyway, my main memory of these is of a road trip my family took one summer, and every time we went by a Dairy Queen, we'd stop and I'd get a Heath Bar Blizzard. For some reason, I had no problem as a kid with eating the entire thing, but I've never been able to finish eating one as an adult. Which is part of why I wonder if the ice cream quality has gotten worse over time, or had more fillers added to it or something.

Blizzards are still at Dairy Queen - at least in Canada, not in the Dennis the Menace cups anymore though.

Blizzards are still sold at the DQ in Prescott Valley (AZ). I miss the similar Breeze which was made with soft serve yogurt instead of ice cream.

I remember when I first saw them advertised! It was 1985 and I was 7. I really wanted to try them but we didn't have a DQ anywhere near where we lived (Long Island, NY) back then. That summer we went to MA to visit family and they had a DQ nearby, but didn't have the Blizzard. :( They had a similar place closer called Dairy Maid which had something called a Flurry. It wasn't bad, but not as good as I imagined the Blizzard being. Finally got my first Blizzard two years ago when a new DQ finally opened up nearby! Yep, they still have Blizzards there. Better late than never, I guess!

A two-company comparison. Dairy Queen (f. 1939) has Blizzard. Tastee Freez (f. 1950, Joliet) has Freezee. DQ has Dilly Bar (since 1955). Tastee Freez had Tastee Bar (no curly cue, 1957). DQ now a global company. Tastee Freez, not so successful (under parent company Garaldi/Wienerschnitzel, hot food sales). Tastee Freez, a DQ wannabe for decades, was slow in modernizing, replacing stands with dine-in buildings that could operate year-round.

I remember when DQ had the Breeze along with the Blizzards. I think they were made with low fat yogurt instead of ice cream and then dissappeared sometime in the 90's. Also, the Dilly Bars don't have the "curly cue" on them anymore and taste terrible..like wax! I loved Dairy Queen back in the way back..the one in Depoe Bay,Oregon used to have the best Pronto Pups! Sadly it is long gone.

That's right, La Sponge. DQ makes nothing like the old school anymore. My comparison from last story concerned the late 1960s, when my home town had a Tastee Freez (1956-70) and four DQ stands (first dine-in Brazier opened in 1970). We also had a Boy Blue stand (1963-96). That was demolished in favor of a Big Wheel auto part store.

SZA, are you sure it was the blizzard your dad was asking for one more taste of and not your body as it burst into womanhood?
Noneya - December 11, 2022 - Report this comment
Charlie you had better stop with the inappropriate sexual comments on here. Just because they don't check the site regularly doesn't give you the Right to go around and making lewd comments. You did realize you can still be reported to youtube for this behavior? All they have to go is see this and the site name easily ban you frl this site and suspend you from Google. Children might be here! Ever think of that!? With that being said I HAVE reported you..this isn't the first time I've seen you act inappropriate. I suggest you go get a better hobby.
