Everytime I eat a tuna sandwich I think of Tuna Twist, that packet made a world of different that I can remember in tuna salad. They need to bring that back!

I loved Tuna Twist! Why would they ever stop making it? It was like, kind of a packet of dry soup mix that you added to tuna! I miss that stuff. I wonder if soup mix would work....

Tuna Twist was awesome, except it was both produced and discontinued in the 70's, not the 80's. I found a short article title that probably explains why: "Gastrointestinal illness associated with Nabisco's Tuna Twist" from the journal California Morbidity 43 in 1976.
Jennifer - September 11, 2007 - Report this comment
"Tuna twist makes tuna taste fresh as a garden!" Wasn't that the truth? I miss that stuff! Tuna just hasn't been the same since. I think they SHOULD bring it back, and I never had gastrointestinal illness from eating it....

I loved tuna twist. I was a kid when it was available. My mom bought it and it was so easy to make. Just tear the packet open into a bowl with tuna and mayo, and voila! Somtimes I added sliced boiled eggs, celery, or pickle relish. So a couple of people got sick. Thas ok, bring it back! LOL

I have dreams about Tuna Twist, I remember growing up. No chance of this product coming back.

Let's all stop whining and get organized. What can we do to get this product back on the shelves. Why should our kids be deprived of this wonderful product. Lets ban together

I think of this every time I eat a tuna sandwich. It was absolutely wonderful! Please, please how can we bring this back?

I just sent an email to Kraft in regards to Tuna Twist and that we want it back after all these years! Maybe if everyone went Kraft.com and sent a request they might just bring it back!

I remember my mom packing my lunches in 4th-5th grade (1979-1981) with Tuna Twist sandwiches. I put italian seasoning on my tuna salad in an effort to recapture the taste, but it doesn't really cut it.

I was one of the people that got a tummy-ache, but tuna has not been the same, since the disappearance of tuna twist... I agree do the research, but bring it back...

I am a vegetarian now, but I would break down and eat a tuna sandwich if they brought tuna twist back!!!
JJ - July 09, 2008 - Report this comment
Really, it was the song and the dancing cartoon veggies in the commercial that did it for me. Sir Celery, Miss Parsley and the Onion Twins. Dr. Freud, your sandwich is ready.

I Have missed tuna twist for years!!! It is awsome and I wish they would bring it back! The way I look at the sick issue thing, there is not a product on the market that has not made someone sick. I used to eat it as a kid and I was heart sick when they took it away. There are so many wonderful products that have been taken off the market and it isn't fare!I agree with all the other comments. BRING IT BACK!!!!
VLH - September 09, 2008 - Report this comment
My aunt is deadly allergic to a preservative that is found in products such as hamburger helper and stove top stuffing. She could care less if they were kept on the market, she just simply stays away from them. Just because some people may have a reaction to something doesn't mean that others should not be allowed to enjoy it. If the whole world was searched for people allergic to all products there would most likely be people allergic to everything on the shelves. I really do think that Tuna Twist needs to be put back on the shelves because the reasoning for removing it could be used on any product. The stuff was wonderful and alot of people miss it including myself. If I had a reaction to something I would not expect it to be removed from the shelves I would just stay away from that product and let others enjoy it.

I have left a few comments on this sight and I thought of one more comment I would like to leave. If Kraft doesn't want to bring the product itself back to the shelves then why not give us the ingredients so those of us who love it can make it ourselves. It makes sense because if they are not going to be making anymore money off of it then why not share the secret to making it.I think that Tuna Twist made the sale of tuna go up so all tuna industries such as Starkist and etc should ban with all of us on putting it back on the shelves. IF NOT JUST GIVE US THE INGRIDENTS THAT IS IN IT SINCE YOU ARE GETTING NO MORE MONEY FROM IT!!! PLEASE!!!

I thought I was the only one who remembers Tuna Twist! I remember the cheddar flavor was my favorite. I just bought some tuna from Sam's club, now all I need is the Tuna Twist to go with it! Maybe they will come out with a new and improved Tuna Twist.

I miss Tuna Twist also so I came up with this version 1 can of chuck light tuna in water (for flavor) 1 can of Albacore in water (texture) dried celery flakes, dried onion flakes, dried parsley (Less onion flakes - they are the strongest) 1-2 Tablespoons of TVP (Texture Vegetable Protein) - that is what stretches the the tuna to make more sandwiches. I drain the tuna and use some of the liquid from the chuck light to rehydrate the dried vegetables and TVP the liquid gives the TVP that tuna flavor. (This just takes a few minutes) Mix together with tuna and mayo and eat. My son is a part-time vegetarian and that is how I came across the TVP, this recipe is pretty close to the Tuna Twist I remember but then again that was many years ago. If anyone tries it and can make some improvements let me know.

I have not yet tried the way Karen mentioned on her post on Dec 24th 2008 yet but I will give it a try. I have tried something myself that is pretty good but still it is not Tuna Twist. I have taken McCormick dry vegetable seasoning mix for dip and have mixed that season package up with mircle whip and tuna. I have also added all the above plus put a packet of dry cheese from one of those boxes of microwavable macaroni & cheese. Like I said it isn't Tuna Twist but it taste pretty good. They really need to tell us what is in Tuna Twist.

I take a package of Knorr vegetable mix( the kind for the spinich dip) I sift out the powder, it makes it too salty. Add 1 large can of tuna, some onion and some mayo. let set in the frige for 1 hour and enjoy. It's close to tuna twist. I wish they would bring it back also it was great!

My Grandma used to use some sort of packet in tuna. Don't know if it was Tuna Twist or not. I was really young. Swanson makes chicken salad seasoning in original, bbq and caesar. It would probablly work in tuna salad. It's in my local grocery store near the gravy mixes.

I would think 30 years later, they could figure out what made people sick, and replace it with some other ingredient. This is making me hungry! I try to do my best with tuna, but like the rest of you, it's just not the same, lively, exciting tuna salad without Tuna Twist!!

No, I don't care what the article says.... I only had it while i was with an old boyfriend. which was between the years of 1980 and 1983, so its not possible for the Tuna Twist to have been discontinued before that. Sorry, That information is wrong.

http://www.nabiscoworld.com/misccontent/contactus/contact.aspx?m=cu_faqsingle&cat1=10&Faq_Question_ID=1572 tellem to bring it back! Apparently the problem was not an allergic thing, but with the celery/and or onion not hydrating correctly, and causing gastric distress. My idea is that they try selling it already mixed with packaged tuna, you just add the mayo. That would give the veggies a chance to hydrate in the tuna before sale. or, maybe just use powdered onion/celery, instead of the dehydrated veggies.. for those posting recipes of their own versions, I read on another site that a user added a teaspoon of sugar. This might be the missing key ingredient. : /

I had Tuna Twist when I was 13 and suffered diarrhea as a result. Shortly afterwards, my uncle in Los Angeles (who I was staying with at the time) brought me an article from the L.A. Times linking Tuna Twist to gastrointestinal illness. Paul, for you to say "so a couple of people got sick, that's OK bring it back" is proof you need psychiatric help.

It was not discontinued in the 70's. I ate it at least as late as 1990. I bought in a little hole in the wall grocery store in Truman, ar. The guy that owned the store may have been buying old stuff, but he had a steady supply of it for several years, if not now, I haven't checked in there for years.

Q. Are some of the older Nabisco snack products still available? A. We still carry a wide variety of snack products that were originally under the Nabisco label. There are some types of snacks that have been discontinued. There were not enough consumers buying the products to support its continued production. The following is a list of snacks that we most commonly receive questions about, and have been discontinued: NABISCO AMERICAN FRIES NABISCO CHIPPERS NABISCO CHIPSTERS NABISCO CHIT CHAT NABISCO DIP IN A CHIP NABISCO FLINGS NABISCO HEYDAY BARS NABISCO KENNEDY'S SPECIAL COMMONS NABISCO LIL' LOAF NABISCO MEAL-MATES NABISCO NUTTER BUTTER GRANOLA BARS NABISCO SHAPIES NABISCO TUNA TWIST PLANTER'S TAVERN NUTS SNACKWELL'S BROWNIE MIX Get on board people and contact Nabisco. They need to hear our voices if we ant this product back.

Hey all lovers of Tuna Twist Kraft also won't bring back Creamy Italian Seven Seas. There is a company called Vermont Country Store that are purveyors of products that can't be found and they find or remake if enough interest. Let's all contact them for help in getting these 2 products back on the market!!!!!!

I have made up a recipe that equals tuna twist so much that I don't even miss the original anymore. 1 can tuna in water drained,1/3package of Knorrs Spring Vegetable soup mix (the vegetables only 1/3), celery salt, dried minced onion flakes, dried parsley flakes, mayo. Mix all then add some of the dry seasoning from packet to taste. Yum it's delicious. Double recipe for even more Yum. Hope all the tuna twist fans out there enjoy this!
Sharon K.C.MO - March 03, 2010 - Report this comment
I need to mention that Knorrs Vegetable is the one to use. Spring Vegetable has a few different ingriedents that are different. Probably is just as good. But my recipe uses VEGETABLE.
