This was a curried rice mix in a box under the Uncle Ben's name. I used it a LOT through the 1980's and early 1990's as a base for a curried chicken and rice dish that I made, but after taking a few years off cooking that stuff when I had a child, when I was ready to get back to it, the rice was gone! It wasn't too bad for a packaged product! I found a page on the internet of a newspaper back from the early 60's(?) that was announcing the introduction of this rice, so it was on the market a long time.

Today, the rice and curry sauce by Uncle Ben's (sold separately) is sold at Wal-Mart. The parent company of Uncle Ben's is Mars-Wrigley, based in Houston. Converted Rice, Inc. was the original company behind Uncle Ben's (f. 1942). There was no real Uncle Ben. The picture of the elderly gentleman was simply a trademark (like there's no real Betty Crocker), and began appearing on boxes of rice in 1946. From 1970 to 1992, the man's picture was omitted from packaging, no reason given. Some may say stereotypical. Maybe, though hardly as blatant as Quaker's Aunt Jemima, until 30 years ago.
