Description
This yogurt was a bit creamier, and sweeter than regular yogurts. It was so good, and came in dessert flavors like Cherries Jubilee, Amaretto, A raspberry flavor, and a dutch choclate that tasted like choclate cheesecake. They were all so good, but my favorites were the amaretto, and chocolate. It came out around 1987, and was out only a year or two. I still crave them.

i don't remember the dessert yogurt... but i remember yoplait made a "breakfast yogurt" that had fruit and grains mixed in it. i probably ate 2 of those a day when i was little. i loved the apple cinnamon flavor.

Yes! Why don't they still make it.. the one with berries and grains was the perfect breakfast!

It's sad that no one remembers the dessert yogurt. It was some of the best stuff I put in my mouth. The Dutch Chocolate was the best. Heaven on a spoon.

I loved the breakfast style yogurt, too. I've discovered Liberte yogurt which is the same type of thing. It may be hard to find; I buy it from the local natural foods store. Brown Cow also made or makes a yogurt with grains, but I don't like it as much as the Liberte.

Bring back Yoplait breakfast yogurt! I miss that stuff and can't find it anywhere in Arizona.
Kimmy - October 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Ooh my gosh, my mom use to buy me this yogurt all the time when I was kid. It was the best...I have written to yoplait asking them why they don't carry it. They said they didn't have great sales with this product. Well, everytime we went to the store it was hard to find it. I have tried the LIBERTE and the Brown Cow....these suck in comparison to the breakfast yogurt(not as chunky). If they bring this back I will buy cases!!!

The made this dulce de leche "la creme" which was incredible!! they still have some flavors of it but not that one :(

I contacted the Yoplait company about their "Breakfast Yogurt" a few years back, they just gave me some "tastes change" song-and-dance. And I agree, tastes do change, imagine how much delicious yogurt with chucks of fruit and wheat berries they'd sell today!
Joseph - December 15, 2009 - Report this comment
Seriously about the breakfast yogurt!! But I had a revelation today: I mixed whole wheat berries with my oatmeal for the first time today. I didn't realize it, but wheat berries are the secret grain in breakfast yogurt that gave it that killer texture. I was trying to find some of the actual yogurt flavor recipes to re-mix the breakfast yogurt from plain. Now I realize I am not the only one that loved the hell out of that breakfast yogurt.

Oh I remember the Amaretto & chocolate yogurt! It came in the cute little dessert dish shaped cup and the Amaretto came with toasted almonds, it was YUM! I still crave it too! :) The closest thing you can get to the chocolate one is the Raspberry/chocolate Delight. It's ok but the rasp. is kinda cluttering up the chocolate...lol!

We loved breakfast yogurt too! I do make my own version and it is pretty good. I take a ogurt flavor I like (Stoneyfield Banilla) and mix in some granola cereal (Cascadian Farms) w/ some chopped pecans let it sit a bit 15 min at least and YUM! Not exact but good. You can let it sit in fridge over night too.

OMG I loved the breakfast yogurt as a kid too. But I found a way to sort of recreate it. Make some barley (the quick stuff is fine and you can keep in in the fridge for a week), chop up some walnuts, and mix it in with your favorite flavor of Yoplait. You get the awesome crunchy/chewy thing going on and it makes a great breakfast or after-workout snack.

Let's get everyone we know to write Yoplait and request they bring it back. Everyone I talk to about it loved it. My kids loved it growing up and wish they had it for their own kids.

Loved the breakfast yogurt as well. I talk about it all the time. That's sad. I too think that it would sell well today. If that was the issue.
GoonBoy - September 04, 2010 - Report this comment
I have wonderful recollections of the "Breakfast-style" yogurt. Sounds a bit weird (grains in yogurt?), but it was SERIOUSLY some of the most delicious stuff I've ever tasted. Since Yoplait axed it, I make my own. I've had GREAT success with using cooked barley if I can't find whole wheat berries (cracked wheat is too soft). Give it a shot, you'd be amazed at how close to the Yoplait article it is!

So glad to hear that others know what I'm talking about. My husband never heard of it. As a kid I was extremely picky but I loved this breakfast yogurt. I just had a revelation, I was at Sprouts & saw it in a bin and thought to myself, that's what was in that yogurt...wheat berries, I never knew what it was. I'm going to make it myself.

I am so glad I saw this blog. I could not think of the thing that was in the Breakfast Yogurt...wheat berries, wow. Hate to repeat what's already been said but I loved it too and still miss the Yoplait breakfast yogurt. I will try to make it myself also. I just sent Yoplait a message asking what happened to the Breakfast Yogurt, not feeling confident that they would actually answer I decided to do a search. Thanks everyone...

Amazing what you can find with google. I thought I was the ONLY person who remembered the breakfast yogurts. They rocked! I miss them!!! I commented on their facebook page today to tell me what was in it so I can duplicate them myself. The texture was amazing!!

I've been CRAVING the breakfast yogurt Yoplait used to make. I seriously loved that stuff. Were they called Yoplait Harvest Grains or something like that? I think I need to recreate it myself with barely...so wish they made this stuff still!!

My mom used to work for General Mills, so we had tons and tons of this breakfast yogurt and loved it!!!! They must have complete and utter idiots working there to have discontinued it. Every fast-food joint has something similar nowadays but they all cost way way more and are full of fakey ingredients. If anyone at General Mills had a clue, they'd get this stuff back on the market pronto!!! They'd make a killing! Everyone wants a fast, nutritious breakfast--and this stuff was da bomb!

I know what you are talking about with the dessert yogurts.I have thought over the years, why did they stop making them? It was Chocolate Barvarian, strawberries Romanoff and ameretto almond. They did come in those cute little dessert cups. They were fabulous. It was in the 80's. If yoplait sees this, please bring them back!!!!

It is great to know that I am not the only one who loved the breakfast yogurt. When my friends and I talk about things we miss from our childhood it is always my first choice. My son is a picky eater, but loves yogurt. If Yoplait brings it back I know he will love it as much as I do.

Bring back the breafast yogurt if that is what they call it. I loved the one with tropicalfruit and barley that was my favorite and I had an eating disorder and that was the one thing I did eat. so PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

I randomly looked up discontinued Yoplait flavors, thinking maybe they'd changed the name. I haven't eaten my beloved childhood breakfast yogurt in over 20 years and I still think about. Seriously, they need to bring it back. Petition? Screen shots of this page? The demand is here...and we're just the dorks that looked it up. ;)

I didn't realize it had been so long since this yogurt was made! I remember asking a clerk at the grocery store if they still carried the breakfast yogurt way back when and he said no and that so many people were asking for it. I agree with everyone else that this would be popular today.

The Breakfast yogurt with the blue border and silver foil top was what I remembered, and I was only in the 3rd grade! It would be awesome if they brought this back!!

I am so happy to have found this. I discovered the Yoplait Breakfast Yogurt while attending college in the late 1980's--happy times, happy memories. I totally loved it and miss it--like everyone here ! I enjoyed reading all the comments and suggestions for how to make it on my own. Can't wait to give it a try...I wonder why they discontinued it...

Breakfast yogurt was the best yogurt ever made. I can't keep myself from scanning yogurt section every time I'm a grocery store -just in case.

Yoplait in General used to taste wonderful because it was full fat. All the flavors were totally delicious. But now all yogurt has to be fat free and low cal which makes it disgusting. Plus not enough calories to make an effective meal. I'm sad yogurt changed in the US. But I live in Switzerland now and the yogurt here rocks!

Has anyone been able to find images or old commercials of Yoplait's breakfast yogurt? I have fond memories of the stuff too, and have had zero luck with my internet search (which in this day and age seems odd).

I was a big fan of the breakfast yogurt. My children were young at the time and they liked it too. They still talk about it. Now I buy vanilla Greek yogurt and put sunflower seeds in it. Tastes really good, you might want to try it.

Count me in as one who has missed the Yoplait Breakfast Yogurts for well over a decade now. If they're too dumb to bring them back (which obviously they are - btw, I hate the 'Whips") - then we'll just have to make our own. It is wheat berries in there - I saw this recipe and just sent it to myself to see if it might be a good substitute: http://pinchofyum.com/brown-sugar-apple-wheat-berry-yogurt-parfaits#comment-581996

Won't buy any Yoplait since I heard about how their regular yogurt containers cause wildlife to suffocate and starve because once a little creature sticks their head in the slated side container, they can't get it off their heads because of the shape. I hope everyone will boycott Yoplait yogurt until they change the container shape.

I loved Apple Cinnamon yoplait breakfast yogurt as a child and they have one that tastes exactly like it again now, called Yoplait Plenti apple and cinnamon flavor with wheat berries, flax, and pumpkin seeds in it. I tasted it and it is so close to the breakfast one of my past, I hope they make it forever. Try this one Plenti apple cinnamon,if you ate and loved yoplait apple cinnamon flavored yoplait breakfast yogurt from the 80s, and you will see what I mean. Exactly similar.also, for the person above, it's in a wide Greek yogurt sized container, not the usual cup.

I used to buy the yoplait in the cute little desert cups in the 80's. It was strawberries Romonoff, Barvarian chocolate and Almaretto almond. They were delicious. I always wondered why they stopped making them. They were fabulous.

It's funny because I have been searching all morning for the name of what yoplait nutty yogurt in the 80s used to be called and come to find out it's breakfast yogurt and everybody else loved it as well I just remember it as a child and wish I could achieve the same taste with some of the yogurt Yoplait now makes. Nothing compares to the yoplait breakfast yogurt!!!!! I wish they would bring it back. I am going to call Yoplait and express that a lot of people miss the breakfast yogurt.

Every time an american company takes over they destroy the product. Yoplait breakfast and liberté is the same thing. Good wholesome ingredients, great taste is not enough. liberté yogurt is prime example. Canadian one tasted like dessert. The yoplait stepped in and single handedly destroyed a great product with their buyout.

I loved the Breakfast yogurt as well, and was aghast when they discontinued it. I've tried to recreate it for years, but never knew the grain was "wheat berries". So glad I found this stream!!! Already on the shopping list, as well as barley someone else suggested. I often put fresh fruit or white raisins or dried cranberries/cran-raisins, & slivered almonds or pecans in my yogurt. Giving something good to chew makes it much more satisfying & enough to pass for a meal. the pre-made was just so convenient, plus there were several great flavors. I bet sales would be much higher now than they were in the 80's if Yoplait would do a trial. It really was delicious!!

I too, was a huge fan of the Breakfast yogurt. I lived on it while I was pregnant. I am so glad to see I am not the only fan and I am sad they won't consider bringing it back. However, from reading the posts above...I now know the secret was wheat berries....you can bet I will be making my own breakfast yogurt.

Breakfast Yogurt! I ate it every morning after my twins were born in ‘81. It was the only thing I Had time to eat and I loved it. I wrote to the company, too, and never got an answer. I agree Wheat berries were the secret ingredient. I finally found some a few years ago but I think I had to soak them in water first. I eventually lost interest. I think I’ll look for the Plenti Apple cinnamon now!
