Zeus Chips were the best. I bought them and the popcorn all of the time. Then the big boys bought smartfood and they went away. What a shame!

I didn't know there's food named after a Greek god! Zeus is the king of the gods in Greek Mythology. He's a Disney character now, too.

Oh I aklso remember the main color of the bag was purple, and that a portion of the proceeds went to ehlp save the rain forrest. These things were freaking amazing. I bought them out of a snack machine at my school. I never saw them in bigger bags or even in my local grocery store. Then one day they were just gone. Ive checked the web and cant find much info on them, Id love to at least see a pic of a bag.

I used to get Zeus Chips out of the vending machine at school back in the day. The memory of the flavor of them came back when I tried Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips. The taste is very similar. Pretty cool :)
BRING THESE BACK!! - April 11, 2011 - Report this comment
I used to eat these at Northeastern University in the late 80's. I first tried a bag at the food court in Cordage Park Plymouth MA...I was hooked! I was psyched when NU started carrying them. I told everybody about them and they just looked at me, "ZEUS CHIPS???" Then they tried them. They were hooked. Cool bag, cool name, great tasting....SOMEBODY BRING 'EM BACK!!

They threw bags of these into the crowd at Fenway, and I was hooked on them for as long as the White Hen carried them. Zeus Chips and 7-Up Gold. Mmm, Mmm. They were like my Hot Cheetos and Takis.

Oh man, I miss these! Lots of body, good level of spicy. They were my go-to snack in middle school in the late 80's in CT. IIRC, they had a trivia promotion, and if you answered correctly, they'd send you a free carton of chips in the mail.

I bought these every day from the newsstand in the building where I worked in Boston starting in 1986 (they sold snacks too). I loved them but one day they just disappeared. I wrote to the manufacturer, which was "Annie's" (not Smartfood or Frito-Lay) and was told that the demand just wasn't sufficient to cover manufacturing costs.

I seem to remember them as deep fried rotini pasta with added flavoring. But it was the 80s after all and a lot of that time is just a blur to me now.

I loved those things! I remember sometimes you would find an piece of uncooked piece of rotini pasta in the bag.

I loved them back in the 80's too. I wrote them back then asking them to bring them back after they stopped producing them. Looks like we should petition Frito Lay. Have had nothing like them since.

I was working in Charlestown in the late 80s and used to buy them in a specialty sandwich shop. LOVED them and one day they were gone. I remember writing to Annie's, not Smartfood, and got the reply that they just wouldn't make them anymore. You would think that SOMEbody would revive or replicate the recipe.

Was this just a New England thing?

Bowtie pasta, nacho cheese taste- loved 'em! Have read that you can make them by spraying pasta w cooking spray & baking...guess you'd have to fiddle w taco seasoning to get the flavor right.

LOVED Zeus Chips. Was so sad when they didn't make it as a snack food. Really enjoyed them much more than Smartfood. LOVED the purple packaging. Wish that they would come back.
