Description
It's the same as the Alphie above, however, the version that we had was white. I think it was the second edition? Hence the Alphie II. I could not find one on any site.

Oh, man, I remember Alphie 2 that I saw once when I was 4 back in 1986!

I LOVED my Alphie 2! It was the closest thing I had to a computer for many years. After a while it's face stopped lighting up though... tried to fix it as a teenager and couldn't get to the lightbulb.

I was too young to remember my Alphie much, but I do remember I loved him! Not sure if he was I or II, probably I, I guess.
Elsje - July 25, 2007 - Report this comment
I guess I did have the II, since the I is blue.

Oh my gosh, what a flash back! I didn't own an Alphie, though remember playing with Alphie as a child at a friends house. If I can remember correctly, as it has been so long, Alphie's face would flash on and off when you got the answer right.

i ahd an alphie 2! loved him! should look into getting another one for my toy collection. dont you think your kids should enjoy all of the original toys you used to play with? instead of the not so great remakes?

I had the white one when I was 6 years old in 1988. It was so awesome! I played with it a lot!

i had one of these as a kid, and still have one (that i found at a goodwill). the illusion is pretty much ruined, though, since there is a discernible pattern that all the quiz cards follow...you can get correct answers every time, even with no card inserted. it's a pretty simple pattern, but it was educational back in 1988 when i didn't give a crap how it worked.

I loved this toy! I actually saw the movie "Juno" last night, and there is one of these in the background of one of the scenes. I asked everyone I knew, and searched all over the web to find its name! Yay!!
Shari - February 16, 2008 - Report this comment
That is so great!! I too saw JUNO and the whole time I couldn't remember the name! I had one and thought it was the greatest ever!!! Awesome memories!! I think EBAY might be my next stop!!

That is too funny! I just saw juno last night and saw alphie in the background and couldnt for the life of me remember his name! It looks like juno has brought him back without knowing. I too just left ebay!!

I guess I'm late on the whole Juno Alphie thing. I have been trying to find and figure out the name of this toy for over 10 years now. I kept asking people and my family and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I'm so glad I saw Juno.

Does anyone remember the music it played? It is in the song Rocking the Casbah by the Clash. I laugh every time I hear the song.

i was actually on the box for alphie II - a little girl fully amused by playing with the learning robot. even sadder than child modeling is that they didn't even give me an alphie II, just a flattened box! i remember going to 'Toys R Us' & seeing those Alphie IIs way up high on the shelf, but no one ever got me one. shame.
Davidovich - May 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Saddest story I've heard in a while.

Found this site while looking for the picture of the box. like dayna I was on the box as well. Boy with the bad bowl haircut and like her all i got was the flattened box.

My sister and I had an Alphie 2 but my sister was afraid of him because he would randomly turn on in the middle of the night. We had to put him in the garage. Can anyone upload a video of someone actually playing with Alphie 2 please. Ours disappeared or was sold at a garage sale without my knowing. Thanks, A Squared

As a child of the 1980's, I remember this toy very well. I received it as a Christmas gift sometime in the mid-80s and loved playing with it. I still have it; it's packed away in a box, as are all of the accessories.

I've been trying to figure out what he was called forever! I just bought one on ebay, I'm so excited to play with it. I have totally vivid memories of playing with my Alphie in my grandmas living room.

I just realized, Alphie II must be why I love R2-D2 so much! I just saw an updated Alphie at Target today, after thinking about him last week and wishing I could get one for my three-year-old daughter. I had no idea they'd brought him back!

I'm 37 now but I remember the very first Alphie from 1978. That was a fun toy for me at that time. I even took it all the way apart down to the circuit board trying to understand the parts that made him work. I now have an electrical engineering degree and I have worked as an engineer/technician. I'm currently an Network/IT admin. So yeah, Alphie helped me get to where I am today in more ways than he was ever designed for. Sadly, I think I wound up tossing him and his parts in the trash as I became a teenager because the button on top finally gave out along with some of the electronic parts that I ruined trying to see what they would do. Also there were way more interesting things to learn at that time like cars and girls. May he rest in peace. Good ol' Alphie.
