I got into Barbie dolls when I was six years old. Me and my next door neighbor played with mine and hers all the time. For Christmas in first grade I got some Barbie clothes, jewelry, and cologne. Then I had a Barbie - themed party for my seventh birthday!

I had so many of these when I was growing up and the playsets, until my cat chewed the legs and hands. I only have very few of the dolls left. I was too young for the Jem dolls and Barbie and the rockers but I had other good ones. I also had the Barbie Ice Cream Shop, a Sleeping Beauty doll along with the Beast, Cinderella, Starlight motor Home, a beach pool, the Barbie kitchen majorette Teresa, and a roller skating one. I don't remember ever having any of the Heart Family dolls or Maxie dolls.

I didn't have many Barbies, because I was obsessed with hair and I thought that their heads were too small, but I had two or three that I just had to have and they were the Superhair Barbie doll with the magic Barrette and the Totally Hair Barbie that came with the hair gel! I also think I had one that moved her arms with a switch on her back. I have kept them because someone told me that the African American old Barbies are worth a lot!!

I had loads of Barbies but my fave was "Magic Moves Barbie." I remember I used to cut their hair sometimes and give them mohawks. haha

Does anybody remember being devasted when the bead that helped Barbie's head change poses, popped out of her neck and then when you would try to put it back in, the neck would crack, then she would officialy be broken??? That is the only complaint that I have about my Barbies from back in the day other than their small heads.

i still have like 300 barbie dolls from the 80s and i was born in 94!

Ahh, the broken neck Barbie syndrome! Yes, my dad would try to fix poor Barbie's head back on, but usually his "fix" was to just cram the head back on and tell me to call her "Barbie No Neck." *sigh* I had tons of Barbies. I remember one of my first Barbies wore a dress with a pink skirt and lacy, high-necked top. She had two-toned hair (light blonde and dark brown) and she came with a little pink purse that had eyeshadow in it. I loved that doll!

ONE MORE THING..ISN'T THAT NEAT MATTEL IS MAKING BARBIES AGAIN WE HAD WHEN WE WERE KIDS? I JUST BOUGHT THE 1977 SUPERSTAR ONE.JUST WISH THEY HAD HER IN THE "PINK" BOX, INSTEAD OF PURPLE. OH WELL I STILL LOVE HER.
James - April 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I vividly remeber the 80's Barbie commercial ending with that saying " We girls can do anything, right Barbie?" My favorite commercial was the one for the Superhair Barbie Doll with the barrette stuck to her head. I think I was 3 when I got that doll. I'd drop everything to run to the T.V. to look at it. The commercials for the 90's Barbies were different, I remember the Totally Hair Barbie commercial ending something like this "You've got somethin' special". That's how they sucker you into buying with those darn catchy commercials. I was a sucker for a fantastic commercial!!

The barbie house you had was called the Glamour home. It had a swing on one side, and a winding staircase on the other side. I LOVED this house it was so cool! I kept mine until the frame started to crack and I ended up throwing it away. I wish I still had it because I probably could havde glued it together. Anyway it seems to be rare but I hope you can find one!

I loved my PJ doll, but when my best friend came over she always had to have her so I was stuck with the other Barbies. I used to have the Barbie townhouse with the elevator, it was cardboard and plastic. It always felll apart. My friend had the same prob, so our parents built us sturdy wood houses, I wish I still had that one.

this site really helped me remember a lot of the barbies that I didn't know the names of http://www.1000barbies.com/ but there are still a lot that I don't know and can't find anywhere. I know there was one that was dressed in pink and black and she came with a pink boombox that played music. I had a LOT of barbies. Especially the Disney ones or the Wizard of Oz collection. I also had an MC Hammer one! I also remember a barbie I was looking for that had purple denim pants and a jacket that you could draw on with paint. I had this Water park playset that I can't find anywhere that had slides and a pool I remember it had a lot of tubing that would pump water down the slides. It had a little bar for drinks too I believe. I know I had a little red Corvette that had tiny seat belts and everything. I had this Cruise ship too that I can't find anywhere. I've never seen it anywhere else it was huge and had a hot tub in it and you could make mixed drinks on the top because it had a blender. Looking bad that probably promoted underage drinking HA! They would never make that now! I also just remembered having that Ken that you could shave! I know it was just a warm/cold water thing but it still made me laugh.

The memories of waking up on Christmas morning and seeing that Barbie doll box under the tree. Sigh. I always lost the little ring and the little earrings that she came with. I remember having MAGIC MOVES BARBIE, DREAM GLOW BARBIE, DANCE CLUB DEVON, BARBIE HOT DOG STAND, ETC. To be a little girl again.

Does anyone remember the Barbie from the 80's that you could lay in the sun and it would "tan"? That is the only one I had that I can't remember the name of...Angel Face was my very first barbie, I had Perfume Pretty, Day to Night, Jewel Secrets, Peaches n Cream, Barbie & the Rockers, Island Fun, Great Shape, Beach Splash, Wet N Wild that I remember. I also had Western Fun Nia, Great Shape Ken, a tanning Ken, and a skipper that I don't recall the make of. I had the Jordache Jeans doll, but I don't remember if it was a Barbie or a similar type of doll. I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a complete list of Barbies from the 80's, does anyone know where to look?

My daughter and i were talking about Barbie's and I remembered a doll I had that I would LOVE to find for her but I can't remember the name. I'm not 100% sure that it was Barbie but pretty sure. It was an ice skater. It had jointed limbs and came with a battery operated ice rink. I loved that doll. I was pretty young though so like I said, not 100% if it was Barbie.

Ashlee I think the Barbie you're talking about is Rappin Rockin Barbie from 1992. Anyone know what the blue victorian cottage from 1998 was called. It had a revolving wall in the center that could change from Kitchen to fireplace to bedroom and even a spot to store a Crib...... I've found a few on ebay but I can't find any old comercials or pics of what it included.

Hi. Does anyone remember from the 80s separate play set rooms that were Barbie compatible (I am not sure if it was made by Barbie). I had the bedroom (the bed folded down from the wall), kitchen (there were magnetic eggs, spaghetti that flipped when you used the stove) and a bathroom. It wasn't a dollhouse. It was actual separate rooms made of plastic. Anyone remember? I'm trying to find pictures of it and the manufacturer! Thank you!!!

Been try to track down a Barbie from the 80's. She had a blue skirt gown with an attached wrap/boa. It was that silvery blue with darker blue trim. The top of the "gown" was a blue sequined tube top that tied around the neck. I want to say it was the Teresa doll that came in it but that may be incorrect. Anyone?

Memories, I remember the house you are talking about. I had one, I had the bedroom first then my parents bought me the other rooms for Christmas. I loved mines......The rooms were flat packed plastic, and the roof was pink cardboard. But the roof had a big square hole in it so you could easily reach in and play!!

I SOOO wanted a Twirly Curls Barbie!!! My mother hated Barbie, so she used to give me Sindy dolls instead. According to my mother, "Sindy" was a good, wholesome girl who went to church, but "Barbie" was a cheap slut with no class or morals!!!! Best not to say what she thinks about Bratz dolls!!!!!

I know this is random but I have been tying to locate the small perfume bottle, maybe not even a couple of oiunzes, that would come with a Theresa Beach doll. not sure what year or what the doll was called, all I remember is that she came in a black, hot pink and gold glittery floral print bikini, and the small perfume bottle was for her and for me. I LOVE that scent and now I am in the hunt for that perfume and/or the complete set with the doll. Does anybody know where I can find it? I would greatly appreciate it.

I was Barbie-less for so long. Everyone had Barbies - Everyone but me! How depressing, how uncool. Then out of the blue for my birthday my grandmother got me a Barbie - Solid Gold Barbie; no she wasn't solid gold, she was dressed as a Solid Gold dancer. One of the only two Barbies I ever had. So wish I could find another. Would totally trade ALL of my boxed collectable Barbies for one!
