I used to love riding these things! I even used to race in Big Wheel races at our local race track. I won several trophies that my mom still has somewhere.

LOVED THIS! I would ride it to work everyday if I had one that fit me now. It was so loud. Everyone could hear you coming. I especially like the seat situation. You could pull the seat off and move it back so you would fit better. Sometimes you could get a few kids on here. Super fun!

OMIGOSh! I had a cabbage patch teal and purple big wheel and it had a basket in the back to carry my dolls! Good times good times.

they still have Big Wheels. However, they no longer have the brake so you can skid out. That was the coolest part. I guess it was too "dangerous".

My big wheel days date back to the mid 70's. We had a large hill at the end of the street and all of the kids in the area would come out and race down it every Sunday. Then, when I attended Western Illinois University in the late 80's, Delta Ta Delta held big wheel races there every year for charity. Now with them back in the market, some old college buddies along with myself are going to hold a big wheel event in 2008 in a town with a large hill in the middle which ends up in downtown. We have several merchants on board, now we need to ok from the city. More info to come.

I loved my Big Wheel! I had one with a Popple on the front. I wish I had it now, but I rode it till the wheel broke to pieces.

My very first mode of transpertation. I remember the wheels cracking. I could've cried when mine broke. By the time i even got one I was beginning to be in the final stages of being small enough to ride one so by the time mine was worn out , I never got another one. I remember mine like it was yesterday. It was pink and white and had Daisy stickers all over it.

I have so many great memories of my big wheel. Got my first one in the 70's. The best part was tricking my brother into pushing me so I wouldn't have to pedal. I rode all over the neighborhood and back on mine. I wish they made one for adults

My brothers and I had a Dukes of Hazzard Big Wheel. Had all the 01 stickers and everything. However, since we used it outside it didn't take long for all the stickers to fall off and then it was just orange and black.

Megan - November 22, 2007 - Report this comment
I had a pink and blue one. Basically the handle bars eventually fell off and there were big holes in the back tires. My cousin and I improvised and would just grab the front end and fly down our steep driveway in it. Man,that was so much fun.

I wasn't fortunate to own a big wheel because my father hated the noise that it made on concrete. He said it was annoying and too loud.. (miss you Dad) I remember it did have a small spring attached to one of the rear wheels that would make it sound tuff also..I also remember there was a small box behind the seat so you could put stuff in. My neighbors had them so that was the only chance I had of being close to one.

I had a big wheel when I was 3 0r 4 in Lebanon, PA. I lived on Spruce Street and I rode it up and down the sidewalk all the time. I had guns on the handles and rocks got stuck in the two back wheels and made a cool noise as they went round. Eventually the front tire got scraped down flat cause of all the skidding. Pure fun. My boyfriend's face was never the same after a big wheel accident. His older brother was riding the bigwheel while my boyfriend was standing at the back, holding the seat. My boyfriend fell flat on his face but didn't let go of the seat for some reason. His brother never heard him fall (we all know how loud those things were) and therefore pulled him on his face across the asphalt for quite a distance... Ouch!!!

My Big Wheel was the LAMEST looking thing - blue-and-white Smurfs design, complete with gigantic plastic Smurf head between the handlebars. I loved it, though. Remember how the static coming off the front wheel would make the hair on your legs stand straight up?

I WANT TO KNOW WHO ELSE USED TO TURN THEIR BIG WHEEL UPSIDE DOWN AND "MAKE ICE CREAM" BY SITTING ON IT AND SPINNING THE FRONT WHEEL BY THE PEDAL. THIS CHILDHOOD PHENOMENON SEEMS TO CROSS ALL REGIONAL AND RACIAL DIVIDES, UNITING US AS ONE. INSTANT ICE-BREAKER AT PARTIES WHERE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE YOUR AGE. WORK BIG WHEEL TALK INTO THE CONVERSATION, THEN SAY, "DID YOU USED TO MAKE ICE CREAM W/ YOUR BIG WHEEL, TOO?" CHANCES ARE YOU WILL GET A RESOUNDING "YES!!!" WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THAT?????

Big Wheel was my ticket to freedom! Riding it up and down the sidewalk with my friends in a big pack - the rumble of the hollow wheels - we thought we were so tough! I finally wore a hole in the right back wheel (too many spinouts I guess) and was blown away when I got a brand new one for Christmas - GOOD TIMES!

My cousins and I started out with the one pictured and then moved on to an Incredible Hulk model. They nearly killed me one rainy day by pushing me (it was faster that way) onto the road in front of my grandma's house in the country and a car came out of nowhere. Yet another toy that brings back the 'good ol days' when kids used to be active outdoors.

During the summer, I was on my big wheel ALL DAY LONG! It was pink with white wheels, light blue handlebars, and pink, blue, and yellow tassles hanging from the handlebars. Like someone else said, if they had them for adults, I would totally ride it! I remember winning a big wheel race at a mall when I was about 7 or 8.

Ah memories... Christmas 1977. There it sat, under the tree with a giant teddy bear in the seat... Flames on the wheels, fire colored tassels on the handlebars that flapped in the wind like flames as you cruised down the block... and who could forget the, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick sound that it made as you peddled... you know, that baseball card in the spokes sound?! I love nostalgia!

My son was very big into G.I. Joe, when the Big Wheel came out, I ran to the store to buy it for him. He rode it until the wheels were worn flat and he just couldn't get it to go any longer. That was probably one of the saddest days of his life when that happened. He still talks about it today, I wish I could find one for him!

I had great memories with my Big Wheel. We wound up having to replace the axle on it numerous times because my parents would take it to their friends' house, where they would get drunk and ride it down the hill in their backyard together.

I had a Knight Rider big wheel, & it was awesome!!! I used to do so much stuff with mine it was unimaginable!!! I would ride my big wheel down the front steps of my house (& they were pretty steep) & I would scare the hell out of my mom in the process, (at least that's what she told me) I also used to go to the elderly neighbors driveway & go skidding,(oh the fun!!!)because they had a asphalt driveway. My mom once told me that the elderly couple complained about the noise coming from my big wheel, & she told me that I went into the house & grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen & cut off the clicker just to make them happy. And so I could continue to play in their driveway. And this all happened when I was 2 or 3 ( I was born in 1979). Also with all the skidding I was doing, & riding down the steps of my front porch it tore up all 3 my tires, & when we moved I never got another big wheel ever (sob).
Alison - February 22, 2009 - Report this comment
It was pretty much impossible to ever keep both feet on the Big Wheels pedals when you were careening down a hill. My older brother had a black and yellow one (Batman? No clue.) and I used to ride his. But then I got my own! It was white and purple, again, no clue. Finally with two Big Wheels we would race down the hill in front of our house. You couldn't stop, could barely keep the thing straight, and 90% of the time had to crash to stop. I have no idea why our Mother let us do this. It was probably one of our most dangerous past times. Also, ice-cream? OF COURSE!

Never rode Big Wheels when we were younger, but as being a Popples collector, we scored on an in the box Popples Power Cycle as it was called. Coleco made it. It came missing one thing, and that is the rear axle. I can fabricate one out of bar stock. A few of the decals are also torn and I will work around that as well. The Popples Power Cycle has a Party Popple on front that when you press her Tail (actually a bulb), she pops up. There is a Pom Pom tail that sticks up, as well. This was an exceptinal find!!!! There will never be anyone on it!

I loved the Big Wheel. It was the best. When the front wheel cracked I filled it with rocks (I am happy to see I am not the only one who did that). Eventually the crack would turn into a flat spot. We had some older kids on my block who had a dirtbike and we talked them into tying a rope to it and the Big Wheel. 2 kids rode that set up, the last one lost teeth. Great fun!

It was yellow and white with an eagle sticker on it to match what her jeep looked like. it came with a pre-printed autographed picture of her. I used to pull up the hand break and skid out. I went through so many wheels, that my dad ordered em 4 at a time. and would keep them in the garage so he could just slap a new wheel on when i wore one down. thats why we werent fat kids. we rode em all day long, all the kids in the neighborhood. the best

My brother had a Mickey Mouse big wheel (or something very similar to it). It had that awful clicky thing in one of the rear wheels, so you always knew where the kid was. My grandpa finally had enough of hearing the clicking one day. So he told my little three year old brother that his bike was broke and he was going to fix it. Grandpa turned the bike over, with Michael watching, took a small pair of tin-snips and snipped the clicker off. Then grandpa says, "There, you're bike's fixed now." I was happy not to have to hear the noise anymore. My brother started crying. He went screaming to my dad that grandpa broke his bike and that he was never going to ride it again.

Haha I was 3 when I got my pink Big Wheel! So... 1987. I remember the first day I got it because I was riding it in the driveway and I liked to gently lay my fingers on the back 2 wheels and feel them as they moved. Well, something went amok and I ended up riding over my fingertips on both hands and I lost a few fingernails and they were all bloody. It took a few weeks to heal... Then I went out to ride again and less than 5 minutes into my first ride after my accident I did the exact same thing again... I was a stupid kid.

My boys had a big bird big wheel ! They called it the "Chica Bike " Ha It made a clicking sound as they raced through the house. after acouple years of listening to the clicking I cut off the clicker one day ! My son still brings this up with me! now we laugh about it ! I have been looking everywhere for one for my grandson !!!! Wish they would make them again ! And to "Nad" I use to turn my "bike" upside down and stick a stick in the wheels to make ice cream when I was little (I'm 52 now ) lol

I loved my NIGHT RIDER big wheel so much that I still believe I am riding it everyday, and every night.. First of my kind, and the very last to shine the 1980s..

I NEVER had a big wheel. :( my parents got me tons of other toys but never a big wheel. We had a gravel driveway and it wouldn't of worked well on it anyway.

I LOVED my Big wheel! It was My little pony and also had the cloud basket that had a My Little Pony in it. She was pink with blue hair and a blue lightening bolt on her butt. I still have the Pony! Wish I had the big wheel still too :(

I had one with a battery powered water gun on the front. My sister would be so mad when I rode by her blasting away.

Does anyone remember a green big wheel that had a button and it made a roaring sound? I'm dying to find a picture of one.

Does anyone remember the name of the all red one with the doors on the side that you could open and it would spin around real fast? I had one and can't remember the name!

I had the green one that roared like a lion, Lisa. I still remember going to the store with my parents to pick it out. I thought I wanted a pink one, until I saw THAT one, and then I had to have it. I loved that bike.

I had the Knight Rider one, and my cousin had a Transformers one. We used to get other kids in the neighborhood, and have races down the hillside behind his house.

Are you interested in buying coin operated horses or spring rocking horses??? They are sold on Ebay. Most spring horses are made by Blazon, Wonder, Flexible Flyer, and Radio Flyer. Feel free to buy as many as you like. Good luck!!! :) Ebay account required.

Unfortunately, I was too big for these when they first came out (teenager). Nearly all of the littler kids in the neighborhood had one. They used to race up and down the sidewalks all day long, and tlooked like they were having a blast. I wish they made these for adults. I would totally get one!!!
