Description
She was a doll that came out after Teddy Ruxpin, the same idea. She had a cassette player built into her back and her lips would move when she sang. Her eyes moved side to side.

This doll changed my life forever! I recieved in for Christmas after my parents had trapsed around all the stores for it. Then, one day, I was playing with Cricket and her batteries decided to run out making her cry out this weird, electronic noise that scared the SH*T out of me, I was seven. I have hated dolls ever since, Thank you Cricket!!! ha ha

her eyes didnt open and close but they moved side to side. Her and hyer brother Corky both had sets of clothes and cassette tapes that you could buy. Most of the sets were different proffesions like fireman and astronot if I remember...

I had tons of toys in the 80s and I wanted Cricket badly one Christmas. I didn't get her. She's the only toy I remember ever really wanting and not getting, but my mom couldn't see spending $100 on a doll. Especially for a doll she thought looked hideous. Now that I see her picture as an adult, I agree with Mom. LOL

I remember Cricket! I got her back in 1986 when I was two. I LOVED her...but as I got older she scared the crap out of me! My brother and I thought she was Chucky's little sister so we would stuff her into the closet! HAHAHA and I do agree she was freaky when her batteries ran low!

I had a Cricket doll when I was little... She was one of my favourite dolls next to the Waterbabies. One night my parents friend thought he was being funny and was pretending to make out with her and then ounched her face in! :( I couldnt believe it! I had to throw her out after that. Well I finally signed up for ebay and i have bought her, Corky and the african American versions and I just love them! If you are looking for ANYTHING Cricket or Corky, look there, cause it will turn up eventually!

I was given a Cricket doll for Christmas in 1986 and I LOVED her...that is until Child's Play came out. My brother who was 10 yrs older than me thought it would be funny to make a tape recording of his own voice saying, "Chucky, Chucky, Chucky" and "I'll be your friend till the end...Heidee Ho", then place it in Crickets tape player when I was not around. I was absolutely horrified when I heard this coming from my Cricket doll. Needless to say I tried throwing her away and my parents found her and brought her back in the house. So she lived in my closet after that until my parents finally let me sell her in our family garage sale three years later. The were so upset with my brother for doing this to me! Spending $100 on a doll in 1986 was outrageous. To this day she still freaks my $hit out!!!

My twins got a Cricket doll when they were about 3 yrs. They loved that doll! Her eyes no longer move, but her cassette player still works and her mouth. Does anyone know where I can have her repaired? Her hair is a mess too.

I had a talking doll like this. It wasn't Cricket, but I loved her all the same. Especially because my grandpa and grandma bought her for me despite the steep price. I'll admit, I went through a phase where I thought she was Chucky's girlfriend, but believe it or not I now collect talking dolls. I have 7 talkers: My original doll (love her), A Cricket doll, Pamela, 2 Cabbage patch talking dolls, Teddy Ruxpin, and Chatty Patty.

What Can I say? Cricket was an awesome doll ! They came out when in 1986 when I was 3. Mine still talks, but her eyes and her mouth do not, probably due to age!! My friend still has hers and she couldn,t believe how old that thing is now, she was also amazed that my Cricket was African American(Very hard to find I was told). I do remember it being really heavy. Before her eyes and mouth stopped working, I put her in the Library Center in my preschool classroom, and all the kids just adored her. I remember the commercial like yesterday because Cricket said at the end "I'll be talking to YA"!!!
Hayley - May 22, 2008 - Report this comment
I remember the first time I saw the commercial, I really thought it was a doll that would talk and walk and play with me :) But I still carried her everywhere once I got her. Her and Teddy.

It was Christmas season of 1987 and I wanted a Cricket doll more than anything else. My mother and I decided to spend the holiday at my grandparents. My aunt was wrapping my presents in a bedroom and I was told not to look in there, but I did and almost fell over when I saw Cricket! I loved that doll for years...

OMG! I remember my cousin having this doll and my aunt fussing about the $100 bucks she spent on it for xmas. But now that I think back on it I would love to get her for my daughter even though as a child I remember her being heavy as Hell, and after watching Child's Play for the first time, quickly discovered when the battries are low her speech is scary as Hell. So along with our My Buddy dolls they were locked in the closet and we could care less what happened to them afterwards, there was no way our parents was going to throw 100 bucks in the trash especially back then. And to say I want my child to live this exprience P.S. a couple years later my baby sister discovered the same thing when she was given a Teddy Rupkin for xmas. Mann! our parents made sure we remembered the toys they bought us.

I had a Cricket talking doll I got her about 20 years ago and i loved her. I was aroung 5-7 years old and i thought that was the greatest toy to ever have, I took her every where, my mom even went and found a car seat at a yard sale and bought it for me so i could have her in the car with me and pretend she was my daughter, Now it s funny i still have this doll at my parents house and my two daughters who are 5 and 7 love to play with her she still works can you believe it!!! My grandma got her for me for Christmas and every one laughed because the doll was as big as i was, when i seen your website i couldnt believe it i felt like i was 5 again.

My family never had the money to buy a cricket doll, but they managed an apartment building and someone had left behind one of the cricket cassette tapes, its been so long ago but I think it was the sleepy time one, and I LOVED IT! I listened to it soooo much, it got lost over the years, but I would love to someday have it replaced.

it was my dream to have a cricket doll when she first came out. i remember going through the k's merchandise catalog every year and every sale flyer she was in and cutting out her pictures and circling them in the books just to hint to my parents. needless to say, i abused my barbies and other dolls at that age. cut hair, painted faces, broke heads off, etc. lol... i started ebay shopping about 3 years ago and made my childhood dream come true. i got a cricket doll for $26 and have the directors chair, 5 books and 2 tapes. i love my cricket doll!! i am 29 years old now and am able to appreciate her everyday. i look at her and just smile because she was my biggest dream come true as a child. 20 years later, she's all mine now~

I'm 24 years old. A girl I know gave me Cricket when I was about 6 or 7. I still have her. My sister was so scared of her. She claimed her eyes would follow her around the room and sometimes her mouth would move when she had no batteries. She doesn't work now and her hair is colored with markers, she has painted fingernails and I have no idea where her original clothes are, but I still love her. hah

I LOVED my Cricket doll! She was my best friend! I had so many of her tapes and books. I remember her singing, "The ants went marching two by two, hurrah, hurrah..." Awesome! Mine broke very soon after I got her, and it was covered by warranty. So, we had to ship her off to get fixed. When they sent her back, she came with a hospital gown on and a hospital bracelet. HOW CUTE IS THAT???

Cricket was pretty cool...if not a bit freaky. I mean, it was all about how she moved her eyes, very weird at times! I never had one but the girl down the street who had every toy ever created (you know that kid) had one and we used to play with it.

I loved Cricket so much and played with her constantly so the next year I got Corky. When I was 12 I wanted to give my Aunt a present for her baby shower so I gave her Cricket and Corky-I will have to see if she still has them now that her daughter is 17 I don't think she needs them.

OMG!! I begged and begged for a cricket doll! and one Christmas when I was 5 I ran up under the tree searching for that big box and I didnt see one, kinda sad on Christmas day, i continued to open my gifts. After I was done, my parents sensed I was a little sad, my dad walked over to me and said " You have one more gift" he walked over to our long couch reached behind it and grabbed a big box! I instantly knew what it was!! I tore open the box and there she was, my black curly haired cricket! I instantly cheered up! Now Im 29 and it bothers me when I got older I threw the doll away! LOL back in those days I used to put my older brothers old school rap tapes in the back and it was hilariuos to watch her lips move all out of wack!!

She was in at least 2 fires that i know of and made it through both except her clothes and tapes...she is a little dirty but i will always keep her in my heart. I wish i could get ahold of her original clothes and tapes but as far as i know that stuff is hard to find.

Yeah, they seem creepy now, but Cricket and Corky were a big part of my childhood. I still have both my Cricket and my Corky doll as well as numerous tapes and the Cricket board game. Anyone else remember the board game? It came with a tape too (of course).

I bought my youngest daughter Cricket and one night her and her older sister thought it would be a good idea to watch Childsplay When they went to bed in the top bunk together as they were then scared I put the light out, held Cricket up and shouted Chuckys here Needless to say my daughters are still a bit wary of her but my granddaughter now plays with her Sadly she plays no more as her cassette has broken

My oldest daughter received Cricket for Christmas when she was only a year and a half. That doll taught her so much. I recently got her out and combed that hair back into its curls. I used VS ribbon for her pig tails. She is as cute as I remember. Since my daughter lives all the way in Texas she keeps me company.

I got my cricket doll for Christmas as a young girl of 3yrs old. This doll was the hearts love of my childhood. After many wonderful years of play & keeping me comapny through many military moves, my parents packed cricket away when I was around either 9 or 10, I had outgrown her. My parents, knowing how attached i was to cricket as a kid, apparently wanted to keep her in case I wanted her for memories later on. I'm glad they kept her because I found her in her origional store box in my parents attic not long ago. I cleaned cricket up as best possible, she was just as sweet as in remembered her! I was again In absolute childhood bliss! Her eyes moved, her mouth moved, but her speaker sounded crackled & muffled... after doing some research, I came accrost A Ms Betty from Toysthattalk.com whom restores & refurbishes these cherished items, so I sent Cricket to her to be repaired....when cricket arrived home a fast 7 days later she was perfect. :-) I introduced cricket to My 5yr old niece, we enjoy many of crickets jokes, songs & stories together. Cricket is still perfect & says hello all the way from Alaska Ms Betty! P.S, Anyone looking to repair their cricket, Definately have her repaired with Toysthattalk.com! The quality of work is amazing & Betty will have your doll talking like brand new.

I had both cricket and her brother corky when they came out. I loved cricket and would take her everywhere with me. Then child's play came out and my aunt decided to take me to watch this movie ( who takes a child to see this???)) When I got home that night I could swear I saw the dolls eyes turning red and just staring at me. I was scared sh*tless!! The next day my sister and I "beat up" the dolls and my mom had no choice but to store them in the closet and eventually gave them away.

I grew up with a cricket doll in the 80's I got it as a Christmas present from Santa, it was the best doll I ever had, unfortunately my doll was brought to a doll hospital and I was no longer able to get it back, I am now looking for the orginal cricket doll(blonde hair)that is in a good condition with her orginal clothes, cassettes, and tape recorder that works probably, as I want to give it to my lil sister for Christmas this doll meant a lot to me and I wish that it hadn't been brought to a doll's hospital. If anyone is selling their cricket doll that has all the orginal features that work probably please let me know. Email MarshMellowBunni@Hotmail.com thank you

my mom got a cricket doll when she was young, and when she 'got rid of it' my great grandma kept it. i got her when i was 4, and her hair was kinda matted and her eyes don't work, but i love her. she means alot to me, since she was the last object i showed to my other great grandma before she died. she was my best friend, and was my comfort. i still have her, and play with her everyday, though i am a teenager now(13) i dress her and even made her a little bed this weekend. i often pretend she is my little sister, i am the youngest child. i love her and to all those that are posting rde things my parents taught me a phrase that applies here "if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." please do not post hate, spread joy
