Description
She was a doll that came out after Teddy Ruxpin, the same idea. She had a cassette player built into her back and her lips would move when she sang. Her eyes moved side to side.

This doll changed my life forever! I recieved in for Christmas after my parents had trapsed around all the stores for it. Then, one day, I was playing with Cricket and her batteries decided to run out making her cry out this weird, electronic noise that scared the SH*T out of me, I was seven. I have hated dolls ever since, Thank you Cricket!!! ha ha

her eyes didnt open and close but they moved side to side. Her and hyer brother Corky both had sets of clothes and cassette tapes that you could buy. Most of the sets were different proffesions like fireman and astronot if I remember...

Playmates could remake Cricket and her little brother Corky, but insted of making them into tape players they could make them into cd players.

I had tons of toys in the 80s and I wanted Cricket badly one Christmas. I didn't get her. She's the only toy I remember ever really wanting and not getting, but my mom couldn't see spending $100 on a doll. Especially for a doll she thought looked hideous. Now that I see her picture as an adult, I agree with Mom. LOL

I remember Cricket! I got her back in 1986 when I was two. I LOVED her...but as I got older she scared the crap out of me! My brother and I thought she was Chucky's little sister so we would stuff her into the closet! HAHAHA and I do agree she was freaky when her batteries ran low!

I had Cricket and Corky and a bunch of the tapes and books and clothes. I used to hold up cookies to their mouths when they were talking so they could eat them.

I remember sitting on my aunts steps singing with my baby. I have 4 younger female cousins and a sister, however Cricket was my best friend.lol. No one was allowed to touch her or push her buttons. I think my parents gave her to Toys for Tots one year:(

I had a Cricket doll when I was little... She was one of my favourite dolls next to the Waterbabies. One night my parents friend thought he was being funny and was pretending to make out with her and then ounched her face in! :( I couldnt believe it! I had to throw her out after that. Well I finally signed up for ebay and i have bought her, Corky and the african American versions and I just love them! If you are looking for ANYTHING Cricket or Corky, look there, cause it will turn up eventually!

I was given a Cricket doll for Christmas in 1986 and I LOVED her...that is until Child's Play came out. My brother who was 10 yrs older than me thought it would be funny to make a tape recording of his own voice saying, "Chucky, Chucky, Chucky" and "I'll be your friend till the end...Heidee Ho", then place it in Crickets tape player when I was not around. I was absolutely horrified when I heard this coming from my Cricket doll. Needless to say I tried throwing her away and my parents found her and brought her back in the house. So she lived in my closet after that until my parents finally let me sell her in our family garage sale three years later. The were so upset with my brother for doing this to me! Spending $100 on a doll in 1986 was outrageous. To this day she still freaks my $hit out!!!

My twins got a Cricket doll when they were about 3 yrs. They loved that doll! Her eyes no longer move, but her cassette player still works and her mouth. Does anyone know where I can have her repaired? Her hair is a mess too.

I had a talking doll like this. It wasn't Cricket, but I loved her all the same. Especially because my grandpa and grandma bought her for me despite the steep price. I'll admit, I went through a phase where I thought she was Chucky's girlfriend, but believe it or not I now collect talking dolls. I have 7 talkers: My original doll (love her), A Cricket doll, Pamela, 2 Cabbage patch talking dolls, Teddy Ruxpin, and Chatty Patty.

What Can I say? Cricket was an awesome doll ! They came out when in 1986 when I was 3. Mine still talks, but her eyes and her mouth do not, probably due to age!! My friend still has hers and she couldn,t believe how old that thing is now, she was also amazed that my Cricket was African American(Very hard to find I was told). I do remember it being really heavy. Before her eyes and mouth stopped working, I put her in the Library Center in my preschool classroom, and all the kids just adored her. I remember the commercial like yesterday because Cricket said at the end "I'll be talking to YA"!!!
Hayley - May 22, 2008 - Report this comment
I remember the first time I saw the commercial, I really thought it was a doll that would talk and walk and play with me :) But I still carried her everywhere once I got her. Her and Teddy.

It was Christmas season of 1987 and I wanted a Cricket doll more than anything else. My mother and I decided to spend the holiday at my grandparents. My aunt was wrapping my presents in a bedroom and I was told not to look in there, but I did and almost fell over when I saw Cricket! I loved that doll for years...

OMG! I remember my cousin having this doll and my aunt fussing about the $100 bucks she spent on it for xmas. But now that I think back on it I would love to get her for my daughter even though as a child I remember her being heavy as Hell, and after watching Child's Play for the first time, quickly discovered when the battries are low her speech is scary as Hell. So along with our My Buddy dolls they were locked in the closet and we could care less what happened to them afterwards, there was no way our parents was going to throw 100 bucks in the trash especially back then. And to say I want my child to live this exprience P.S. a couple years later my baby sister discovered the same thing when she was given a Teddy Rupkin for xmas. Mann! our parents made sure we remembered the toys they bought us.

I had a Cricket talking doll I got her about 20 years ago and i loved her. I was aroung 5-7 years old and i thought that was the greatest toy to ever have, I took her every where, my mom even went and found a car seat at a yard sale and bought it for me so i could have her in the car with me and pretend she was my daughter, Now it s funny i still have this doll at my parents house and my two daughters who are 5 and 7 love to play with her she still works can you believe it!!! My grandma got her for me for Christmas and every one laughed because the doll was as big as i was, when i seen your website i couldnt believe it i felt like i was 5 again.

My family never had the money to buy a cricket doll, but they managed an apartment building and someone had left behind one of the cricket cassette tapes, its been so long ago but I think it was the sleepy time one, and I LOVED IT! I listened to it soooo much, it got lost over the years, but I would love to someday have it replaced.

it was my dream to have a cricket doll when she first came out. i remember going through the k's merchandise catalog every year and every sale flyer she was in and cutting out her pictures and circling them in the books just to hint to my parents. needless to say, i abused my barbies and other dolls at that age. cut hair, painted faces, broke heads off, etc. lol... i started ebay shopping about 3 years ago and made my childhood dream come true. i got a cricket doll for $26 and have the directors chair, 5 books and 2 tapes. i love my cricket doll!! i am 29 years old now and am able to appreciate her everyday. i look at her and just smile because she was my biggest dream come true as a child. 20 years later, she's all mine now~

I'm 24 years old. A girl I know gave me Cricket when I was about 6 or 7. I still have her. My sister was so scared of her. She claimed her eyes would follow her around the room and sometimes her mouth would move when she had no batteries. She doesn't work now and her hair is colored with markers, she has painted fingernails and I have no idea where her original clothes are, but I still love her. hah

I LOVED my Cricket doll! She was my best friend! I had so many of her tapes and books. I remember her singing, "The ants went marching two by two, hurrah, hurrah..." Awesome! Mine broke very soon after I got her, and it was covered by warranty. So, we had to ship her off to get fixed. When they sent her back, she came with a hospital gown on and a hospital bracelet. HOW CUTE IS THAT???

Cricket was pretty cool...if not a bit freaky. I mean, it was all about how she moved her eyes, very weird at times! I never had one but the girl down the street who had every toy ever created (you know that kid) had one and we used to play with it.

I got Cricket for Christmas one year and I still remember how big of a deal it was for my parents to spend $100 on one gift for me when she had 4 kids and not a lot of money. I loved Cricket so much and played with her constantly so the next year I got Corky. When I was 12 I wanted to give my Aunt a present for her baby shower so I gave her Cricket and Corky-I will have to see if she still has them now that her daughter is 17 I don't think she needs them.

I specifically asked everyone to NOT get me Cricket when she came out...my mom had traumatized me as a child by telling me about the Talking Tina episode of Twilight Zone. :-) As much as Cricket and Teddy Ruxpin creeped me out, I don't think I would have ever slept as a child if the furbies had come out back then!

OMG I'm so happy I'm not the only person tramatized by this doll! I remember we had her in our van(I was already terrified of her by this point) and I was alone with my sister waiting on my mom. All of a sudden the frame that held her eyes popped out of place! We screamed and I believe my sister put it back in place but it POPPED out again! My poor mother had to leave it on the bench at the shopping plaza! Hahaha.
