Either Matchbox or Hot Wheels (or both?) also produced cars just like these at some point. I recall owning a few and in fact seeing TV commercials for them.

I remember SSP (Super Sonic Power) Smash Up Derby. Two plastic cars with tires, hoods and doors that flew off after contacting the front bumper. They could be put back together and crashed again and again. Came with two plastic pull cords and two ramps. Other drag racers were also available that where ment for racing.

Awesome toy growing up,they did a remake of these in the mid 90s, not as good as the originals but couldn't resist buying a set for my son. Still have them and he's 19 now
