Description
A leftover from the sixties, a big light bulb cooks (or warms up) little easy to make food treats. A popular favorite from the 60s, redesigned cosmetically several times, I think the 80s version is pictured here (maybe late 80s).

I had the Yellow one. I loved baking in this thing back then and my brother would always be there to help eat the fruits of my labor. Against manufacturers instructions we even used a 100 watt bulb so that we could shorten the baking time. I still have it at my Momma's. I would use the brown plastic base as a "serving tray" to deliver the goodies to my Momma and Brother.

I had that exact one that looks like a microwave. I spilled chocolate cake mix in the bottom many a time. But the cakes always came out delicious in time for my tea parties.

I had the microwave looking one. The cake mix always bubbled over for some reason and nothing ever came out right... but I loved it.

I wanted one of these sooo bad when I was a little girl, but my mom refused to buy it b/c she was convinced that I would "set the house on fire" or "burn myself." Now that I'm older I hate to cook or bake. Whenever my mom mentions it, I always reply, "Well maybe if someone had given me an Easy Bake Oven when I was little, I would have learned to love to bake :)

I wanted one of these really bad too, but my mom wouldn't buy me one either...but a friend of mine got one and the food was horrible so I changed my mind and didn't want one anymore anyways. Kids are so funny.

I had the yellow one .. one time I did a pan of 4 brownies and I pushed too hard with the stick to get them out of the oven. One brownie popped out of the pan and fell into the bottom of the oven - there was no way to get it out. So from then on, whenever I baked in my oven there was always the smell of the brownie burning on the bottom! In hindsight it was quite a fire hazard but I LOVED it!!!
yup this one too... - December 29, 2007 - Report this comment
I had the microwave version... NOTHING ever turned out right! I guess that's why I don't bake now.

I think the only place you can find an Easy Bake now is ebay, amazon, or hasbro.com. I saw one on ebay for $200 but on hasbro.com they are around $22.

I never got my Easy Bake Oven to work well. It just wasn't very much fun and the food didn't look good.
Ang - February 05, 2008 - Report this comment
Oohh, I had the microwave looking one too. I only made one cake with it. I remember my friend and I splitting the cake in half and eating it. I loved watching the light bulb cook my cake.

I guess I am the only guy to comment on this such toy, but anyhow I loved Easy Bake. My dad always bought the mix for it because my sister loved to eat the goodies, but I didn't mind baking them haha. It was the microwave one though. I believe we still have one of these lying around in the pantry closet at my dads house.

I had this as long as the cookie mix lasted. then thrown in a corner forever. It took so long just for one cookie. I couldent wait for it to cool and the cookie always burned my tongue. For some reason my mom bought me another one of these when I was 13. Thus history was repeated.

mmmm My friend and I came up with a great idea... we smashed M & M's and then put them in one of the pans on top of the oven and it all melted together and made a killer candy bar!!!

I had the yellow one and loved it, but I don't remember anything about how the food tasted or turned out. It was just that the thing worked at all which was amazing! The yellow one is the one from the 80s; the red one is from the 70s and purple one from 2004. They're still making these, and there's even a gourmet cookbook! Lobster with truffle slices cooked in the Easy Bake, just imagine! I want to get my 7-yr-old son one for Christmas. The oven, not the lobster...

It existed, Lani. I never had it, but it definitely existed in the late 70s/early 80s.

I never had EasyBake. I never asked for it and my mom never bought it. My mom was really lazy so therefore that's probably why she never got it for me, because she would have to help me. My son is 5 and he wants Dr, Dreadful's Lab. It's like EasyBake for boys. I'm definately getting it for him for Christmas and help him without complaint!

Got the original easy bake for Xmas!!! Wow can remember mixing the little boxes of cake mix. Using the "tool" to bake the cake (placing it under a light bulb) then frosting it.... My Dad would always eat it and tell us how good it was, even though it may not have been. Still love him for that!!!!
