Description
This toy was popular among little girls. You could purchase two types the adults or the babies. The adults were either an insect or an animal (duck, snail, rabbit etc...) and they had a secret compartment that you could lock with a key. Inside there was a little plastic pet. It looked like a raspberry with a face and feet. The baby finders keypers were plastic insects or animals and you could squeeze them to make an opening to hide things.

the little guy inside the keeper was called the finder, each keeper came with a braclet, one finder and a key!

I had a swan, a turtle and a blue guy that looked like a chipmuk dressed in a baseball costume. They came with their own weird little dudes with glasses. The turtle's name was Sheldon I think. I remember locking up my necklace in here and losing the key. My mom got really mad. Its a good thing you could manipulate the lock easily.

I still have Fancy and her little friend. (She's the pink snail.) In fact, she's right next to me on my desk as I type this. I have fond memories of my parents searching everywhere for this toy. They couldn't find it where I lived, in any store. They finally found Finders Keypers at a big toy store in another state. It was like finding gold, I tell ya! LOL

I can't for the life of me remember which one I had! I know it was one of the baby ones (like a soft rubber piggy bank...all you had to do was squeeze the sides of the slit & it would open). I must've been really young cuz I distinctly remember opening & closing the slit but I don't remember much else about what it looked like.

Oh yeah these things! I remember throwing the worst tantrum ever for my mom to buy me this. She finally did and then I hardly ever played with it.

Is it Finders Keypers, or Secret Keepers? I just came from the Secret Keepers ( yes spelled that way) and ironically landed here. I never had one of these, but when I was 8 or so I stole my best friends keyper. I remember wanting it SO bad, and when she knew it was gone I was caught. I'm just impressed with not a memory of what they were called, that I've ended up this far!

"Jeepers, creepers, where'd ya get those keepers!" I can sooo hear the jingle from the commercial! I had the pink snail too and I loved that toy! It was so cool feeling like you had a secret little safe to put stuff in as a little kid!

Thanks for the memory re-visit! I'd loved to find my snail again and find the stash of weird objects I was keyping in there :)

I remember them being marketed as "Keypers". I had a squeezable one, a purple squirrel. You squeezed the tail to open it, and removed the base to get stuff out. It had a hair clip in the shape of two blue acorns with purple cups.

These were absolutely my favourite toys ever- I was soooo gutted when they went out of production. I had the snail, the lady bug, the horse (Diamond) and the swan (Princess) plus all their babies. There were more but I can't remember what they were. There was also a little bed with a key for the underneath

I had all of these I loved them. Sheldon (turtle) was my first. there was Fancy (snail), Princess (swan) Tango (orange bug), Keyboard (penguin) Diamond (pony) Joyful (Rabbit) Baseball playing Kangaroo. There were more thats all I can think of. The wee bugs were called the finders. and the names were connected with the keyper. Sheldons bug glowed in the dark and was called nightlite. Tango's bug was called footloose.

WoW! I vaguely remembered what they were called but I didn't know it was spelled odd. I have a big plush snail and a couple little finder dudes. I loved it! Always wished I could have one of the little ones that locked. Weird that so many people are here 20 years later looking for them or remembering...

I had the pink snail!! My neighbor had all of them, and I remember trying to find the keys to open hers. I wanted the swan too. I cried and begged for this thing and then filled it with treasures. I wonder what happened to it.

I LOVED these. I had the penguin one. I used to put my key on a ribbon and hang it on the wall behind a painting so my sister couldn't find it. It would drive her crazy! I wish they made these again so I could get one for my daughter!

I don't what made me remember the Keyper toys, but now I can picture them all lined up on my shelf... I had over a dozen in total. I remember a mix of the adults [swan, snail, pony] and the squeezable baby ones [swan, pony, tortoise, penguin, kangaroo, snail, lady bug]. And I also had most of the books. I think there was a cartoon show that started my childhood obsession with them. I definitely recall soft toys and even a board game with The Keypers in.
Amanda - September 25, 2011 - Report this comment
I am quite sure that the tortoise was actually called Poke [the baby one anyway].

Oh My God!!!! I had totally forgotten about these - I had Hero, but as a cuddly toy with a material pouch not a plastic one. He was much larger than the one pictured too. And I had the large swan Queen with the pink wings and purple crown. I really wanted the penguin one as I was penguin nuts, but never got it *sob*.
