Description
The poor man's Transformers. I think I had only a few of these. They also broke too easy. I believe they came out in 1984

Actually Gobots came out in the north american market in 1983 a full year before the Transformers.

I remember when Gobots first came out. I thought that was the greatest toy ever. They did come out before Transformers. I had a ninja throwing star that my mom bought me from the grocery store that I traded to a kid that had a white ambulance gobot. Then the Transformers came out but that's another story.

I had some Go Bots from Wendy's. They gave them out one time in a kids meal.

While Transformers were obviously the high end transforming robot toys, GoBots were pretty cool. They were a heck of a lot cheaper, which meant you had a better chance of getting one at the store than a Transformer. Besides, they looked better as robots.

I had alot of GoBots. No Transformers, but alot of GoBots. I had 2 versions of the main bad guy (I can't remember his name) the black version & the red version.

The main bad guy was Cy-Kill. He was a motorcycle. The main good guy was Leader-1. It was an awesome cartoon back in the day. But I have to say the corniest one was Scooter. I really couldn't stand!

I have an whole room of Gobots and transformers. The cool thing about gobots was how much metal was used in the large versions, also known as SUPER GO Bots. Pics to come!

Ah... No Eddie you weren't cool because you had a GoBot, those things SUCKED BALLS!!!!! Couldn't you pick those crappy robots at the Gas station???

Gobots were the prototype for the Dollar Store toys that would come down the road. At least the Transformers looked like real cars and planes. These things looked like squares with wings and wheels.

I must disagree with many of the comments here. I had several GoBots including the mobile command center- essentially a giant sized gobot, with decks/levels inside. Compared to transformers, Gobots seemed to be sturdier and constructed of more die-cast metal and less plastic than transformers. I recall gobots, also needed fewer moves to transform them from vehicle to robot. To me the Gobot vehicles looked more realistic, while T'formers looked more complicated and "techy." Realism was very important to me as a child toy consumer.

You need to google "Leader-1 Optimus Megatron cafe" and watch the video from College Humor. Hilarious!

"More realistic," Kermynator? In the way that real vehicles could change into robots? If you want "realistic," get a girlfriend. Then she can laugh with you at other people's pathetic, fantasy-based postings. Why do I get the feeling that "Kermynation" is synonymous with "spending quality time with one's toy robots?"

Kermynator does have a point.. I had a few GoBots that felt like they were hammer forged. I remember them being heavier even though they were smaller.

The cartoon was terrible and the toys weren't as good as Transformers for the most part but as a robot fan I can't really bring myself to hate Gobots. I remember having a GoBots squirt gun that transformed into a robot, the Super Gobot that turned into a tank and a Cy-Kill Halloween costume. Niether the show nor the toys was near as good as it's Transformers counterparts but GoBots still have a few merits.
