My two oldest daughters still talk about grandpa time. It would tell them that it was time to brush their teeth 15 minutes before their bedtime and they couldn't wait at times to get into bed to listen to the bedtime story. Many times I would stay in their room to listen to it too. The morning was great with the way it woke them up.

I miss this toy soooo much! I've been trying to find it everywhere! I would love to have it for my future kids. My little sister and I would listen to him tell stories every night. I couldn't sleep without it. One of my all time favorite childhood toys!

I too have been looking all over for the Granpa Time Clock for my Grandchildren. I found one for my Son when he was about 3 or 4 years old, and he loved that Grand Father kind talking voice that read him stories before he would go to sleep. It was so cool because it would start getting the child ready for bed....tell them they have 10-15 minutes and it's time to brush your teeth, than it would give them another 10-15 minutes to get tucked into bed and ready to listen to the great little stories. If anyone comes across these, please let me know, as I would love to get a couple or few! Kynd1@hotmail.com

I can't believe there are actually other people out there that remember this clock. My 18 year old used to love this clock when he was about 3. I used to sit in there and listen to it as well. I don't have much of a memory about it except that it was white and brown with a mustache somewhere...wish I had a picture of it.I don't understand why noone can find it. If everyone is looking for it, you would think that it would start showing up everywhere. If anyone has knowledge of this my handicapped daughter would love to have it.

I know the company that made it, "homestar" went out of business. I am 27 now and saved mine since I was about 7 so that I could give it to my kids. I have four of that tapes that came with it. When I turned it on it made weird sounds and beeping noises. I wanted to cry! I loved that thing. I have heard many people say the same thing about theirs. I am trying to contact an electronic repair person to see if they can fix it. If you have one that works please email me at jotucker81@hotmail.com. Thanks

JUST FOUND THE ONE I BOUGHT MY 2 BOYS IN THE GARAGE WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE - THEY ARE NOW 21 & 23. STILL IN THE BOX, BUT NOT SURE IF THERE WAS ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS INCLUDED OR JUST THE DESCRIPTION OF OPTIONS ON THE SIDE OF BOX. HAVEN'T COMPLETELY FIGURED OUT HOW TO SET IT YET.
Audrey - May 24, 2009 - Report this comment
Not to gloat but I bought a Grandpa Time at a thrift store today, brand new--still in the plastic wrap in the box, with all three tapes, AC adapter and instruction manual. Ha, even the warranty card. My three-year-old daughter loves him already and he couldn't have come at a better time; she's just begun to have night fears in the past couple weeks. Tonight was the first time in a long time that bedtime was tear-free. What a miracle. I don't think I will ever sell this neat guy, but if anyone would like me to type in the instructions, email them or whatever, I would be more than happy to.

As with most on this page, I too have been looking for a Grandpa Time to purchase for my little girls. I had one when I was little and my mother just recently searched everywhere for my old one, but no luck! Is there anyone willing to sell an old one?? I checked ebay and there are none as of today.
Lauren - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
They are rarely posted on e-bay and it seems when they are its either for an extravagant amount or for under $10. When I did a search I found one that had sold on e-bay for $6.50 back in March!! I don't know how I missed that. There was also one I found while browsing a thrift store. Came back a few days later to buy it and it had already sold. I'm sure another one will turn up at a thrift store or a yard sale this summer. But my recommendation is that if any of you see one, buy it because they are VERY hard to find. Good luck!
Ashley - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I've been searching for one for along time too. I image if you found one for $6.50 on e-bay there had to be something wrong it. Because I had one in the 80's and it was $40 plus--and it cost extra to purchase more tapes! It sure was a neat storytelling clock though. Wish they would make more!!
Lauren - June 04, 2009 - Report this comment
Does anyone have the instructions on how to work this clock? Set the time or how the tape deck works? Does is play just the grandpa time tapes intended for the clock, or can it play other cassette tapes? If anyone has the answers to these questions and could please e-mail me I'd appreciate it. Thanks! indigolabyrinth@hotmail.com
Ashley - June 05, 2009 - Report this comment
As far as I remember, you must use the Grandpa time tapes, because the precorded messages are recorded on the tapes, not in the unit.
Becky Ayers - June 09, 2009 - Report this comment
omg both of our kids had one of these wonderful clocks. They told the sweetest stories in the most calming voice. I really wish they would make these again. They came out about the same time as the grandpa and grandma AG Bears as well as the Dozies. A terrific era for talking and story telling toys. :)

Does anyone remember the stories that were on those tapes? It took me a while but after thinking about it I remembered a few of them: Rumpelstiltskin Snow White and Rose red Beauty and the Beast Puss n Boots There were 3 tapes so I'm sure there were a lot more! Anyone else remember any?

I've finally been able to purchase one of these clocks and am awaiting the delivery!! Hooray!! The only problem is, it does not come with any of the original tapes. So now the hunt begins for a tape. Anyone selling just one or more of the tapes on ebay? Anyone? Even if you sold a copy I would probably consider buying it as long as it worked. Please let me know if any of you are planning on putting them up on ebay! Thanks!! indigolabyrinth@hotmail.com

Some of the other stories are like Rapunzel, Thumbelina, Frog Prince, the Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, etc. Any old nursery story you can think of was on those tapes. I have a book of all the classic stories in a black leather bound book but there is nothing like having Grandpa Time read them to you. I got mine when I was 6 and am now 27. My mom is looking into finding it for me. If she does, I will put another post as to how to purchase.

I had the most extreme, horrific, out of body fear from this clock. Now being twenty I still remember the eerie/perturbed voice, it would turn on and play tapes randomly, wake my brother and I up in the morning yelling time to get up so strangely we would be terrified. I hallucinated the clock running toward me, and my mom said she found me in the hall screaming running in place. My cousins had the clock and loved it, we got it when they grew out of it and feared it immensely.. not a joke, just the closest I've been to experiencing pure evil, I would love to see one again in person.

My children had this clock and we loved it. My middle daughter begged my youngest to allow her to take it to Band Camp with her. Finally the youngest agreed. Grandpa Time was broken at camp and my children were crushed. We still have the clock and tapes in hopes of finding someone who can fix it for my grandchildren.

My husband is putting together a laptop program for me that will act like a Grandpa Time (play the noises at the right time, play the stories at the right time) because my actual machine doesn't work anymore. We had a really old laptop lying around that can't be used for anything else these days, so this will be great. Unfortunately, I only have 2 out of the 4 tapes. I had one when I was little. Im 23 now. But I hated it. It scared the crap out of me. It woke me up in the middle of the night. It was going crazy saying there was a fire and to hurry and get up and get out of the house when there was no fire. It creeped me out and it didn't stay in my room very long

I had no idea Grandpa Time was so popular! I bought one back in 1990 for almost $100, (they were expensive!), for my little son. It made his going to bed time so much easier. Then, when I babysat my little nephew and niece, Grandpa Time was right there to tell them bedtime stories. I have had him ever since but misplaced the instructions. THANK YOU to the person here who put the instructions for all to read! :). I have Grandpa Time, the adaptor and one tape. Am going to make sure he works, (he still lights up), before deciding whether or not to sell him. If I do, it will likely be on eBay. Great site here. :)

Hi everyone. Stumbled upon this site...Search for a chance to find this Grandpa Time, for my grand kids BD. I saw a display model overseas, in a military base BX, returned home, and got it for my kids. They're 24 and 27 now, but I am still fond of this clock, though it's just a memory now. It stopped working, found its way into my basement "fix it one day" box of stuff, kid's mom and I divorced long after. Small chance its still in a packed box from the basement(ex-wife packed), along with the complete set of cassettes. GKs party to attend now. I'll frequent this site in hopes for a clue. :-) Have a fine day!

OMG!!!! I have been looking for Grandpa time for so so many years!!!! I saw this I believe back in 88 or 89 and it was clearance priced I'm sure under $15.00 (i remember being poor) from Toys r us. My son was just over a year and that Grandpa time mesmirized him from day 1. I had always read to him from newborn till I purchased Grandpa Time. He absolutely could not wait to go to bed every night! He was so sad using it till he was about 8 or 9 when it finally just could not go on any longer he painfully would listen to slow slow slow playing taped till it just eventually seized...My husband and his father is an engineer and he tried so much over the final year or so to fix it, it had a sad ending. We still always found time to read before Grandpa started to give him is toothbrushing instructions and we all would then watch as our son just went into action and we treasured this every night. We even kept him in his room till he finally didn't notice it anymore probably after 10 or so...He got into baseball and cubscouts and the power rangers. I belive I finally lovingly put him trash and just starting at it and wondering how a simple audio device stole our families heart and also gave us treasured memories. He's now close to 24 yrs. our only child and it's wonderful memories are better than any computer etc... Family reading and also Grandpa time was the best. Love to find a new one to keep a possible grandchild to experience this love. mmmmm..... spazz1@verizon.net

My twin brother and I loved this clock when we were little. We used it all the time and when we out grew the tapes it became our first stereo, playing different tapes including the Lion King and Footloose soundtracks. Even at 25 I can remember jumping on my bed at age 9 listening to I just can't wait to be king instead of cleaning our room. I had from the point I was born until around ten when my brother and I manage to burn it out. It was replaced with a sony boombox; it did not last as long.

I bought a Grandpa Time clock for my son who is now 29 back in 1989. Our favorite phrase from the clock was a wake up one. It said "Time to get up, time to get up, time to get up in the morning." The adapter caught fire as it used to get real hot. Had to get rid of the clock after that.

Making a correction as to when I bought the clock. It was either 1991 or 1992. We had a good time with it though.

I bought one for my son when he was young, he's 31 now. They're expecting a baby so I found the box he's been packed in for 24 + yrs. The tape doesn't play, it keeps saying END even after I turn the tape over. I have the manual and it's no help.

Nicole: Tried sending a second e-mail, but was notified it was undeliverable. Given the toy is 30 years old, fixing a Grandpa Time toy to mint-state perfection may be difficult. The beeping sound may have purposely gotten on the tape recordings (others have stated this). Other possible reasons include dirty heads on tape player or aging tape on cassette. The back panel appears removable (screws), enabling one to open toy and see if night light bulb is accessible. The digital time display appears custom built and powered by a separate battery. Replacing that may be difficult. If you're buying one on eBay, make sure the instruction book comes with toy, which has detachable AC adaptor.

My husband has this in the box with 3 cassettes. There is no adapter and no instructions so we don’t know if it even works. Can someone email me an instruction manual and perhaps a close up picture of the adaptor so I know what kind or voltage it takes. Can’t pass this on unless I know it works and hate to chuck it?

RE: Our Grandpa Time clock needs restoration. Tried emailing Betty above who once restored them. Also tried toysthattalk.com but site appears to no longer exist. Does anyone know how to contact her, or know of any place that restores these clocks. The issue appears to be with the tape player. It shows "End" regardless of any tape's position. If so, please email BobbYYG54@gmail.com

I want to share with you all how a good man with a good heart restored my marriage after 1 year of breakup, I saw his Facebook page from someone else's testimonial and I contacted him, told him how much I love my husband and how I want him back, he told me to relax and help me, I am still very in shock so far with the restored result, and the love was more than it used to be .. I am so thankful, if you are going through similar problems kindly contact him on his email address drkabakaspiritualtemple@gmail.com call or whatsapp him +2349015857861. https://drkabakaspiritualtemple.blogspot.com/ https://www.blogger.com/blog/posts/530274344162478287

Does anyone know where I can buy Grandpa Time cassettes? I am looking everywhere. I saw on eBay there was one selling for around $30, but I think that's a little extreme. Thoughts? Comments?

Like most on here I have fond memories of Grandpa time as a kid. I've refurbished 2 of them for my sister's kids and can help anyone who may be having difficulties getting theirs to work or how it can be modified to account for unfindable/overpriced parts. Now that I have 3 kids I've decided to make one for them. I wanted to modernize this one so I used the shell of a junk one I used for parts. I built a simple digital version and housed it inside, with the recent developments in AI with chatGPT and the like, I have updated the board with a rpi zero and added a function that enables all the stories to be read to them by their person of choice. Along with my wife and myself, I added their grandparents, aunts, cousins along with an assortment of their favorite cartoon personalities. This is simple to do with very small samples of these people talking normally. I can't link any of that info but if anyone has interest just reach out here.
