My two oldest daughters still talk about grandpa time. It would tell them that it was time to brush their teeth 15 minutes before their bedtime and they couldn't wait at times to get into bed to listen to the bedtime story. Many times I would stay in their room to listen to it too. The morning was great with the way it woke them up.

I miss this toy soooo much! I've been trying to find it everywhere! I would love to have it for my future kids. My little sister and I would listen to him tell stories every night. I couldn't sleep without it. One of my all time favorite childhood toys!

I too have been looking all over for the Granpa Time Clock for my Grandchildren. I found one for my Son when he was about 3 or 4 years old, and he loved that Grand Father kind talking voice that read him stories before he would go to sleep. It was so cool because it would start getting the child ready for bed....tell them they have 10-15 minutes and it's time to brush your teeth, than it would give them another 10-15 minutes to get tucked into bed and ready to listen to the great little stories. If anyone comes across these, please let me know, as I would love to get a couple or few! Kynd1@hotmail.com

I can't believe there are actually other people out there that remember this clock. My 18 year old used to love this clock when he was about 3. I used to sit in there and listen to it as well. I don't have much of a memory about it except that it was white and brown with a mustache somewhere...wish I had a picture of it.I don't understand why noone can find it. If everyone is looking for it, you would think that it would start showing up everywhere. If anyone has knowledge of this my handicapped daughter would love to have it.

I know the company that made it, "homestar" went out of business. I am 27 now and saved mine since I was about 7 so that I could give it to my kids. I have four of that tapes that came with it. When I turned it on it made weird sounds and beeping noises. I wanted to cry! I loved that thing. I have heard many people say the same thing about theirs. I am trying to contact an electronic repair person to see if they can fix it. If you have one that works please email me at jotucker81@hotmail.com. Thanks

JUST FOUND THE ONE I BOUGHT MY 2 BOYS IN THE GARAGE WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE - THEY ARE NOW 21 & 23. STILL IN THE BOX, BUT NOT SURE IF THERE WAS ADDITIONAL DIRECTIONS INCLUDED OR JUST THE DESCRIPTION OF OPTIONS ON THE SIDE OF BOX. HAVEN'T COMPLETELY FIGURED OUT HOW TO SET IT YET.
Audrey - May 24, 2009 - Report this comment
Not to gloat but I bought a Grandpa Time at a thrift store today, brand new--still in the plastic wrap in the box, with all three tapes, AC adapter and instruction manual. Ha, even the warranty card. My three-year-old daughter loves him already and he couldn't have come at a better time; she's just begun to have night fears in the past couple weeks. Tonight was the first time in a long time that bedtime was tear-free. What a miracle. I don't think I will ever sell this neat guy, but if anyone would like me to type in the instructions, email them or whatever, I would be more than happy to.

As with most on this page, I too have been looking for a Grandpa Time to purchase for my little girls. I had one when I was little and my mother just recently searched everywhere for my old one, but no luck! Is there anyone willing to sell an old one?? I checked ebay and there are none as of today.
Lauren - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
They are rarely posted on e-bay and it seems when they are its either for an extravagant amount or for under $10. When I did a search I found one that had sold on e-bay for $6.50 back in March!! I don't know how I missed that. There was also one I found while browsing a thrift store. Came back a few days later to buy it and it had already sold. I'm sure another one will turn up at a thrift store or a yard sale this summer. But my recommendation is that if any of you see one, buy it because they are VERY hard to find. Good luck!
Ashley - June 03, 2009 - Report this comment
I've been searching for one for along time too. I image if you found one for $6.50 on e-bay there had to be something wrong it. Because I had one in the 80's and it was $40 plus--and it cost extra to purchase more tapes! It sure was a neat storytelling clock though. Wish they would make more!!
Lauren - June 04, 2009 - Report this comment
Does anyone have the instructions on how to work this clock? Set the time or how the tape deck works? Does is play just the grandpa time tapes intended for the clock, or can it play other cassette tapes? If anyone has the answers to these questions and could please e-mail me I'd appreciate it. Thanks! indigolabyrinth@hotmail.com
Ashley - June 05, 2009 - Report this comment
As far as I remember, you must use the Grandpa time tapes, because the precorded messages are recorded on the tapes, not in the unit.
Becky Ayers - June 09, 2009 - Report this comment
omg both of our kids had one of these wonderful clocks. They told the sweetest stories in the most calming voice. I really wish they would make these again. They came out about the same time as the grandpa and grandma AG Bears as well as the Dozies. A terrific era for talking and story telling toys. :)

Does anyone remember the stories that were on those tapes? It took me a while but after thinking about it I remembered a few of them: Rumpelstiltskin Snow White and Rose red Beauty and the Beast Puss n Boots There were 3 tapes so I'm sure there were a lot more! Anyone else remember any?

I've repeatedly tried to submit a photo of the clock, but it never appears. I wonder, does anyone know how to contact admins? I can find any way.

I've finally been able to purchase one of these clocks and am awaiting the delivery!! Hooray!! The only problem is, it does not come with any of the original tapes. So now the hunt begins for a tape. Anyone selling just one or more of the tapes on ebay? Anyone? Even if you sold a copy I would probably consider buying it as long as it worked. Please let me know if any of you are planning on putting them up on ebay! Thanks!! indigolabyrinth@hotmail.com

Some of the other stories are like Rapunzel, Thumbelina, Frog Prince, the Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, etc. Any old nursery story you can think of was on those tapes. I have a book of all the classic stories in a black leather bound book but there is nothing like having Grandpa Time read them to you. I got mine when I was 6 and am now 27. My mom is looking into finding it for me. If she does, I will put another post as to how to purchase.

Has anyone seen or have a copy of the TV commercial for "Grandpa Time?" I checked YouTube and Google video but no luck. I was "Puss in Boots" in the commercial and would love to see this again. The commercial, shot in San Francisco, featured a whole host of fairytale and fantasy characters walking up a ramp into the clock. I think I only saw it once. :) Thanks! I had the most extreme, horrific, out of body fear from this clock. Now being twenty I still remember the eerie/perturbed voice, it would turn on and play tapes randomly, wake my brother and I up in the morning yelling time to get up so strangely we would be terrified. I hallucinated the clock running toward me, and my mom said she found me in the hall screaming running in place. My cousins had the clock and loved it, we got it when they grew out of it and feared it immensely.. not a joke, just the closest I've been to experiencing pure evil, I would love to see one again in person.

My children had this clock and we loved it. My middle daughter begged my youngest to allow her to take it to Band Camp with her. Finally the youngest agreed. Grandpa Time was broken at camp and my children were crushed. We still have the clock and tapes in hopes of finding someone who can fix it for my grandchildren.

My husband is putting together a laptop program for me that will act like a Grandpa Time (play the noises at the right time, play the stories at the right time) because my actual machine doesn't work anymore. We had a really old laptop lying around that can't be used for anything else these days, so this will be great. Unfortunately, I only have 2 out of the 4 tapes. If anyone could send me a copy of the 2 other tapes, I would happily send them either starbucks cards or the copy of the program. :)
