Description
Hovercraft was a white flying saucer about 12" in diameter with a small fan in the middle to let it hover about 1/16" off the ground with a docking station that charged up the batteries. Push it gently and it travels far across a hard floor. cant find a pic anywhere.

I think this hovercraft was called Phantom Four. It was white with blue and red stripes. I have not been able to find any info on the net. Any ideas on the manufacturer?

I had this too - it is driving me CRAZY, trying to find more info on it. I think the docking station used a 9 volt. Yoda (the smallest action figure I had) was still too heavy to carry, so it pretty much operated by itself, once launched. It would be 1980 or so that I had this toy. White plastic - I too remember it as the Phantom 4 (or fantom 4, maybe?). MAN I hope someone IDs this thing eventually. I have no idea where it came from - for all I know, my grandmother purchased it at the Navy PX and it's some strange "overseas" toy that never made a splash in the pop culture collective mind. But it is indelibly marked in mine...

Oh - and I don't think it was 12" across... I think it was smaller.

I found this page while looking for info on a toy I got Christmas 1979 - it may be what you are talking about. See the photo labeled "history of a geeky girl 1" on my Flickr account. Doesn't seem to be alot of info out there about it.

I have one, but it is missing parts and I think the rechargable battery in the hovercraft is dead as it won't take a charge. Thinking of tossing it.

I remember seeing the commercial for the first time and thinking "I want one! NOW!" One of the most memorable toys I ever had. That and Big Trak! I think Phantom was manufactured by a company called Schaper.

This was one of the greatest toys ever made! I loved it!! I have 2 for sale. They both are in great shape given the age. The rechargeable battery does not work in either. e-mail if you are interested. md5291@gmail.com

I got one for Xmas in the late 70's/ early 80's. There was a defect and the saucer would never charge. My folks took me back to TRU where there was a very large number of people also returning them. I have been looking for a working unit for years with no luck.

I had the same experience with this toy. Saw it on TV, HAD to have it, got it and it would never even work once. We returned it. In retrospect I wish I would have kept it for the nostalgia. I have never seen one since. I thought it was called Hovercraft VII. It had a little space port and a cord to plug it in. If one shows up, I'd love to buy it. Are there any pics?
does anyone have this - February 12, 2011 - Report this comment
I just purchased one and need to see an image of the area around the fan on the inside of the spaceship.

I was given two of these as gifts in the same year and neither one ever worked, brand new out of the box. A bad joke of a toy.
Alvin - December 09, 2011 - Report this comment
I just found one in a toy box I didn't even know I had. Found lots of old goodies. This one is brand new, box never opened, not even now. So I don't know if this one is like some others that didn't work right out of the box. It's named-Fantom 4 Hover Craft.
phillip - February 25, 2012 - Report this comment
It took four batteries in the base ( c sized?) and my rechargeable battery for the fan must've gone bad too because I remember for years trying to get it to work again, but it didn't. fond memories!

Yeah I had 1 too. Definately called the fantom 4. I still remember the tv add for them. I got mine to work once on christmas day then never again lol.

I have one and the original box; box is a bit banged up. Mine also does not seem to charge anymore. It takes four D batteries. I assume the battery in the saucer is toast or a wire is severed somewhere. Also considering tossing it.

I chucked mine about 8yrs ago as it wouldn't work anymore. The one toy I was really wanting and was over the moon when I got it for Christmas in probably 79/80? I remember putting the supplied stickers on the saucer and the docking station. It had a little socket to plug the charging jack into. Yes happy days.
