Description
Plush baby dolls with curly sprouts of brightly colored hair, with hands that clasped together in a "hug." They were completely soft, with no plastic, and many believed them to be quite ugly. The dolls had their cartoon movie.

These were so cool! One day when I was at school(around age 6), I had fallen down on the playground and scraped my face. My mom picked me up from school and had a Hugga Bunch doll for me! I felt much better. :) It was the purple haired one.

I had "tickles" the red headed one, Cause I have red hair, I have to find the picture of me sleeping in the backseat of our van on a road trip clutching that darned thing. I was totally obsessed, even Burger King gave away little clamp versions of them.

I also had a doll, and I know way too much about this movie b/c I watched it all the time! The little girl didn't want her grandma to go to the nursing home, so she went into Hugga Bunch land or whatever through her bedroom mirror to get these youthful red fruits or something. When she finally got back to her room, somehow she dropped the fruit on her bedroom carpet and they dissolved or something so it was sad...etc, etc. Don't ask how I remember that. Maybe it's a little twisted around, b/c you know how your imagination is so much different as a kid. I always thought the fruit was like strawberries or like those little roma tomatoes. Weird!
Shari - February 16, 2008 - Report this comment
Oh this is so Awesome.. I had the purple one and I couldn't think of the name of this doll.. I have a pic of myself standing outside when I was little holdin them

Back in the early 90s, I bought a Hugga Bunch baby, I believe it was Huggins, at Value Village. I don't have it anymore though. I believe my cousin had one though, who is now 36.

Yes, I too had one. I can't remember the name of mine, but I had the dark haired one with curly hair, because I was dark with curly hair. The amazing thing about this doll is that none of my peers ever heard of this. I loved my Hugga Bunch!

a friend of mine had these dolls on a shelf in her bedroom. i slept over one night, and could not sleep because i fear the dolls would come to life and kill me. seeing their picture 20-something years later, i am still horrified.

I had the pink one. I wanted it so badly for Christmas one year, and my grandmother got it for me. I loved it so much, and I do remember seeing the movie, it was creepy in a way, but I still loved my doll.

I have the movie, remember when the one hugga bunch doll gets put in the washing machine by the girls mother. Or, the book worm, or when the gravity changes and they fall down, or when the scary elephant changes into a cartoon like elephant. My sister and I used to pretend we were eating "young berries" when we ate radishes.LOL Watch it on youtube, it will bring back lots of memories.

I REMEMBER THE QUEEN SCARED ME IN THE MOVIE, AND I LOVED WHEN THEY WERE IN HUGGA LAND AND THEY WALKED PAST THE NURSERY WITH THE CUTE LITTLE HUGGA BABIES. I LOVE WHEN THEY WALK SIDEWAYS ON THE SIDEWALK. AWWW, THE MEMORIES.. I LOOKED IT UP ON EBAY, THEY SELL IT ON VHS ONLY....

I found a burnt DVD copy of this movie a couple of years ago on Ebay. It is silly and old, but I like having it. My son watches it on occasion. My aunt and I both got the pink haired and purple haired dolls when I was about 3 or 4. Somewhere around here I still have them.

I worked for Kenner Toys and established Girls Toys Engineering in Cincinnati 1982-87. It is great to read so many wonderful comments of childhood memories. I was 23 years old and have precious memories of the 27 product brands I developed for Kenner. Naturally I held on to all my Hugga Bunches, Huggle Nook and Nooklet, Hugga Fashions, Care Bears, Care Bear Cousins, Strawberry Shortcake and Rose Petal Place Ragdolls.I had the honor of working with the Man who invented Play-doh. He and I developed scented discs that went inside the Shortcake and Rose Petal heads. The Hugga Bunch were a zanny, crazy bunch! I'm now 50 and my young daughter adores Precious Hugs and Fluffer. I think the Hugga Bunch has returned!!!

A friend of mine just had a baby and while I was at the hospital I went into the gift shop to get her a door hanger. I got her one with a doll on it and I told her it reminds me of a doll I had when I was little. She laughed and said it was the hugga bunch dolls. I couldn't remember the name, now I will never forget it.

I had Bubbles and she was great. I'm 32 yrs old and mentioned the dools to a coworker (3 years younger) and she has no idea what I'm talking about! I also owned the movie. Yes, the kids go through a mirror (on the closet door) and end up in Huggaland? Anyway, the kid tries to bring back some magic fruit and trips over the mirror as she steps back into her room and poof- they dissolve on the carpet (alas, I do not remember what the fruit were supposed to be used for- youth- ooh, to help her grandmother?).

OMG, I had and still have Bubbles. Bubbles was my girl! When my mom brought me this doll in the 80s I fell in love. Our family had been having financial problems and during that time everyone was getting cabbage patch dolls. My mom couldn't afford to get us any expensive toys that year. Well she made a way somehow to buy me this doll. It was all I got that year and it was all I needed. I loved and cherished that doll and I still take it out even now at 30 years of age and fluff her hair. She was my row dog yall. I love that doll and all the memories she has for me.
