Description
Talking doll made by Playmates and looked like Cricket, except her arms moved and her head turned. She had several themed tape sets ("Jill the Babysitter", "Jill the Cheerleader", for example, each sold separately of course) that also included appropriate outfits. The marketing slogan was "I'm a lot like you."

This doll is interactive. She responds to your answers and changes her story accordingly. She is rather large and also quite heavy. But, so cute and has such a charming personality! I have one in mint condition, physically, but, having problems with her tape. If anyone has any tapes for this doll, please contact me: nikkiware@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I have a doll that looks alot like the Jill doll, except she does not talk, she has the same face except red hair, same hands but her body is stuffed. Does anyone know anything about these type of dolls. It makes me wonder since Playmates went broke on the talking Jill dolls if maybe they just started making there bodys stuffed so people could afford them and they would not come out a total lost on these dolls. If any one knows anything about these dolls Please contact me DonnaTerry@aol.com

I still have my Jill doll, but the last time I tried to play her the cartridge would not respond properly to my voice. I had the "Cricket" doll also, and although "Jill" was supposed to be more sophisticated technologically, I can see how Playmates lost money. The doll was almost $200( which seems expensive even now so it definitely seemed like a lot in the 1980's), my mother also had to exchange my doll twice because she was not working properly when she was bought. I can also recall that my doll stopped working properly when I used Duracell batteries-her head and arms started moving really quickly, and as a result her head and arms stopped moving altogether.

I too had one of these Jill dolls and was fond of her, but also had problems with her breaking and went through about 3 in a matter of 2 months before my parents just gave up and returned her all together. I got a baby heather instead and she too broke multiple times, though I had her longer and was far fonder of her. I guess this was the trend in the late 80's. Expensive, high-tech dolls that broke in a week.

I had Jill...I thought she was the coolest thing. My Dad said the talking dall with the moving eyes gave him the creeps. Didn't she take like 8 C batteries too?

Wanted one but she was too expensive, so I never got her. I think my daughter wanted a doll recently that was similar to her. Cant remember what it is called. About the same price actually.
