Description
Lights Alive was a light toy similar to the very popular Lite Brite, but designed more for younger children. I think it was manufactured by both Tomy and Playskool but I'm not sure who made them first. Rather than using pegs like Lite Brite, Lights Alive had tools you would use to poke down the holes of the black plastic cover to reveal the colored light beneath and make pictures. You could change the way the colors appeared by turning a dial on the toy. I think you would just slide the black cover up to "erase" your picture and reset it to start over. Sliding the black cover up also revealed the light source below.

I really wanted a Light Bright but my dad got me Lights Alive because he liked the song in the commercial better

My mom recently found mine. I'm so grateful that it survived the several moves through childhood. It works perfectly: all the little bulbs reset when you wipe the screen, and the light bulb color wheel turns smoothly. The plastic is really hard and high-quality. It doesn't even look aged. I feel sorry for kids today, hardly any toys are made this well. I was also pleased to see that you can replace the lightbulb with a generic one after it burns out. Obviously, this was made before the memo on planned obsolescence.
