Description
She had the same face as the rest of the "Little Miss" dolls (such as Little Miss Make-up and Little Miss Dress Up), but her entire torso and legs were a turquoise mermaid's tail. The tail was covered in jewels and brightly colored starfish, which changed colors in warm water. When you squeezed her tummy she sang a very sweet little song (it had no words, though).

My little sister had this as a child. I just got it for her on Ebay as a birthday gift but my daughter fell in love with the doll so she's 'babysitting' her for my sis. We never knew she sang though! Our mother probably took out the batteries! ;)

I had this! I always gave my dolls haircuts though, so if she's still around somewhere, she has a much shorter 'do.

WOW! I just KNOW I had this. But I can't remember what happened to it. I was obsessed with mermaids as a child (thank you, Ariel) so my mom bought me like every mermaid toy possible.

This brings back memories...my cousin had it, I was babysitting and she just kept making it sing...over and over and over until I wanted to rip its head off! Cute, though.

I totally still have one of these kicking around somewhere. The jewels are a little loose, but other than that, I kept her in pretty good shape. My cat, for whatever reason, is obsessed with it... she licked that thing over and over and over again, loved to hear it sing too. Weirdest thing ever.

My cousin and I both had the African American Little Miss Singing Mermaid Dolls. We took ours to the pool one summer and the chlorine must have done a number on her hair because it was NAPPY as sheeps wool afterwards. I recently found her in my storage trunk and her hair was still jacked up. I haven't put the batteries in her to see if she works, but I do remember it still working when I put her away when I was in about the fourth grade. My cousin found hers in her mom's attic and and not only was her hair still nappy, but the field mice had a picnic making a nest in her hair! YUCK!!
Olivia - April 06, 2009 - Report this comment
I had her, but an older cousin took her and smashed her to pieces with a hammer. I would pay money to find another one that sang. Man.

My sister and I both received one of these from Santa Claus when I was about 8. I loved her! I remember playing with her in the tub. Her stars and shells on her body change colors. Loved her little song, too! Not too sure what happened to her, but I would love to find one for my baby girl!

Just bought one at a yard sale for 50 cents. My daughter seen her and had to have her. Her face was covered in pen so we bought her home and cleaned her up and she is lovely. I decided to go looking for her on the internet because i told my little girl, that i am sure she changes colour. Found this site and found out that she does. Unfortunately, we put a new battery in her and she no longer sings. :( But my little girl doesn't mind.

I have this doll and just listed it on ebay. I bought it new 20 yrs ago for my daughter's mermaid doll collection and kept it in a display hutch. It has never been played with and is in near mint condition. I feel bad now that I never let her play with it but she will love having the money I get from the sale.

Funny story. My sister and I had one each. We had got them for christmas. We played with them in the bathtub. She would la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaaaaaaaaa! But one day, my sister decided to put her under water to see if she could swim, and when she came out, she was sing the chopped and screwd version a.k.a (slow remix) "loh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh-loh-looooooooooooooh! LOL!

My sister and I loved this mermaid! I especially loved the way the fin changed colours in the water. I think she gave my mom the creeps though; I caught her trying to throw it out a couple of times!

This dolls picture shocked the crap out of me, for so many of you it reminds you or brings back happiness, for me it revived memories of sadness from when I was 3 and my uncle would negotiate with me, i get the doll in return he can touch me, I remember the little song song she'd sing with no words "la la la la la" its haunting. I'm sorry i just got so overwhelmed with tears and emotions. Hate that doll.

I adored my singing mermaid. Her hair changed colour under water, or it might of been a foam I put on her hair. my memories have faded but I remembered how much I loved the sound of her voice. I wish my mother didn't give my toys away...looking to by one now :)

Stumbled across these old post while looking for ideas on how to get this doll to sing again. She's in great shape otherwise. Someone ask about washing/combing her hair.....wet her hair and put liquid fabric softener on it. I gently work it thru her hair and RINSED it with cold water. I did this twice and her hair is BEAUTIFUL! ! Soft, curly and very full. Try I, works GREAT!

How do you "squeeze her tummy"? It is HARD! This was given to my great niece and it appears to be in good condition. I put a battery in but can't make her sing and hurt my hand trying to squeeze her tummy. Is there a special place to squeeze?
