Lunch boxes were great. If I remember correctly, they even had a matching thermos. My favorite was my Star Wars lunch box.

Lunch boxes have been around since long before I was born- in the 80's everyone had one, and they were plastic. I remember having a Super Mario Brothers lunch box in elementary school.

My favourite lunchbox was a 'My Little Pony' pink lunchbox. It was lovely and colourful and i have been searching on ebay for it. I started school in October 1987, so it would have been around in the late 80's. Does anyone remember the teddy bear shaped lunchboxes? They were red or yellow and most children at my school had one.

I had a Miss Piggy plastic one, it was bright pink and she was on the front I think on a motorcycle. I also had a metal one but can't remember what it was. Gonna drive me nuts...

I had a metal Muppets lunch box. We used to slide down this little blacktop hill in our playground area while sitting on our lunchboxes. Scraped up the metal pretty bad but boy was it fun!

I got this one lunchbox that had a built-in radio and came with headphones. I remember the first time I brought it to school, put my headphones on, and turned on the radio, the whole time thinking how cool I was. About a week later my milk leaked and killed the radio, not that it was very good anyway. But for a week there I was king of second grade. Still am.

I had a Clash of the Titans lunch box back in '82-83! God thoughs were the good days. Metal lunchboxes, Tonka trucks. SIGH! now everythink is plastic and falls apart, I feel bad for children these days.

Over the years I had an Annie lunchbox, a Care Bears lunchbox, an ALF lunchbox, and a Jem lunchbox. The Annie one was real metal, but the others were plastic, and I used to lose the Theormas every year. I just found a really cool vintage metal Barbie lunchbox at a thrift store for $1.99, and I take my lunch to work in it every day, and I'm almost 28!!!

I had a McDonald's themed metal lunch box! I wish I would've kept it because it probably would've been worth something today!

Wow... brings back memories. I originally had a SuperMario lunchbox with the coolest thermas... you know, the one with the black bullets. Then after moving to another house, I lost it and then got, get this!, a TeenageMutantNinja turtle lunchbox... and I still have it, although the thermas is long gone.

I'm 38 now so I started with a metal Scooby-Doo box. My favorite part of starting school was picking a new lunch box each year. My older cousin had SWAT. Did anybody ever have a Wags-n-Whiskers metal box? I always thought I was pretty "original" with that one!

In the first grade I had a bright orange plastic lunchbox and matching thermos with the New Kids on the Block on them! Wish I still had that dumb thing, maybe it would sell.

My sister had a metal Pac-Man one that looked like the game board. I had a red 'Ghostbusters' model in 1985, then a red 'Froot Loops' in 1986 with Toucan Sam on it. (??? - I don't know what the appeal was THERE.) You could never get the smell of old milk and SpaghettiOs completely out of the thing. When I was growing up, it was not cool to carry a lunchbox in any grade higher than 2nd.

(Oh, and they switched from plastic to metal lunchboxes after kids started using the metal ones on each other as weapons!!!)
