Description
Cross between a keyboard and an electric guitar. Had a soft plastic keypad where the "neck" of the "guitar" was. Came with a songbook to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star by number or color.

I think the White Stripes used a MMT for their newest hit, Icky Thump.

I got one as a kid. Four years ago my step-daughter interviewed me for a school project about your favorite gift. I picked my Magical Musical Thing. Just got interviewed by my daughter (same 4th grade project) a couple days ago. She was so interested. She wished I still had it. I logged on to eBay to find one. Just before bidding, I thought I better call mom. SURE ENOUGH! She still has it... and the book, too! (Seems my battery door needs to be taped shut, though!) I have arranged for my daughter to find out Gramma has it - without my daughter knowing I know. My daughter will give it to me for Christmas (again!) this year! :) Funny how some things come back around!

I loved this toy as a kid. My sister and I each had one and played them for hours. I just found mine today at my parents house and it still works! Unfortunatley, I don't have the book. Would anyone know how I could get a copy of the book so my daughter could play a real song rather then just random keys? Thanks :)

I had a really cheap spin-off of this toy that was bought at a quick-mart when I was 7 in 1985. I showed it to my pals. They weren't impressed and I took it home. Later that day my friends wanted to form a band. We all went home to get instruments. I brought this toy back. A mean neighbor boy said "Oh great you brought THAT retarded thing back?" I quit the "band". I didn't approve of the "r" word back then just as I don't now and I still liked my fake musical thing! ;)

6-7-8-7-6, 6-7-8-10-7-8-6, 6-8-9-10-10-10-10-10-10-9, 7-8,9-9-9-9 10-9-8-7-6....6-7-8-7-6, 6-7-8-10-7-8-6 Snake charmer...ha...I remember parts of other songs too 5 5 7 9 12 10 (on top of old smokey) 10 8 9 10 9...5 5 7 9 9 6....7 8 7 6 5......not positive but that's enough to get you close..... you can match the numbers up to a keyboard. I used to take my sister's music that had the notes written in it and plate it on my magical musical thing. I'm 35, and I still remember the songs by the numbers!!!

I just found mine in a box that had been sitting at my grandmother's house for about 20 years along with a lot of now "vintage" toys and games. It still had the song book in it. I will try to figure out a way to post it somewhere. This should be something that everyone can access. Surprised Mattel doesn't have it electronically somewhere.

We had one when I was a kid back in the early 80s, but I took it apart and disconnected the speaker wires and connected them to my computer's cassette tape input and wrote a program that could tell which key was pressed on the Magical Musical Thing because of the tone it produced. Then I made the computer play the notes instead. I was such a geek.

I'm looking to find a toy that was similar. It was plastic box made to look like a book. You opened the front cover and inside the whole thing was like the magical musical thing. All colours that played different notes. You then picked a sheet from a compartment inside the front cover, and placed it over the top of the coloured buttoned surface and pressed where the sheet told you. Sheets were illustrated and played nursery rhymes usually. any help would be awesome. :)

3212333 222 355 3212333 22321 My son was just asking me about my favorite Christmas present and I told him about the magical musical thing. We looked up a photo of it and I found this page! Mary had a Little Lamb popped into my head - as the numbers in the song book! There it is you’re welcome. It’s been almost 40 years and I can remember those numbers but I forget where I hide the snacks and I bunch of other stuff that happened 5 minutes ago.
