I think these things started in the 60's or 70's. My mom says they had these when she was little.

I grew up in the 50's and remember having these that far back. The GOO was in a metal tube and the tube and straw came in cardboard box. It must have cost something like ten cents because my brothers and I bought them and our allowance was only 25 cents a week. The GOO was usually red and I can still smell the nasty stuff! The air would begin to seep out of the 'bubble' and it would start to collapse after an hour or so. Nevertheless, we had great fun with it!

Does anyone remember what this toy/product was called back in the 70's? It's a vivid memory, yet I don't remember the name of it -- perhaps because of the brain cells killed by inhaling that lovely chemical solvent smell. Thanks!

I was actually walking down the street a couple of days ago and noticed a really familiar smell. I realised it was the smell of these Magic Balloons. It took me back to the 80s.

you can still get them in Asia. very toxic. My uncle brought back a pack from Indonesia in the early 90s. I was playing with them and I accidentally inhaled a balloon after blowing it up. I went and cried in the bathroom cuz I thought I was going to die.

I soooo remember this! My cousins and I loved these. You kind of got "high" off of the smell and we actually chewed the goo after it hardened... We were weird kids...ha-ha!
