this was magic sand because when you put it in water and lifted it out again, it would be still be dry. i remember playing with these in the bathtub...how clean can you get when you're bathing in sand? lol

I remember playing with it in an old aquarium. I loved playing with this toy back in the day, but it had to be a special day because my mother said it was very messy!

still have the original blue bottle before they put eyes on it. It just looked like a genie bottle

I played with this until we eventually lost too much of the sand (its like playdoh, you always loose a little bit each time its used) to play with it.

This was a SUPER cool toy - great marketing idea w/ the genie-type bottle it was held in...i think that bottle alone is ingrained in the memory of anyone who even SAW this toy as a child. so cool.

My daughter had the name brand "Sqand" Little Mermaid set in the mid-90s. It kept her happy for hours. She's now almost 15 and would like to have some Magic Sand for her birthday. I'm going to pick some up!

I LOVED my Magic Sand!! I got it about 27 years ago on a trip - it was in the original blue genie bottle. My mom always got on my case about not cleaning everything up when I was done playing with it. One day I had left it all out, and later I went back to the kitchen and it was GONE. I really mean G-O-N-E..... she said she threw it out because I had left it out AGAIN. (I never found it in another store again).

I got a set for my birthday one year (82-84?). The packaging did not match the picture on this website. The bottles were the plastic jeanie bottles with yellow lids but I don't remember a picture of a jeanie on the label. The bottles were blue, red, and purple. For some reason I also recall a light green color. They came with plastic sculpting tools (yellow?/blue?). There was a block maker, a butter knife type tool, and a pointed poking tool. This stuff was awesome! I had a large fishbowl that I'd make sculptures in. The worst thing about it, for me, was that you couldn't keep the colors separated. If I could find some today, i would definately buy it!

Does anyone remember if it was toxic? I had the orange bottle in early 2000s and something came up in the news about it's toxicity, after that my mom didn't let me play with it anymore and hid it in the closet XD. I remember they took it out of the market but I was too young to understand about chemicals. I would like to know if anyone knows the name of the toxic ingredient, please!!!
