Description
Cabbage Patch sized, but had Barbie-like hair that you could brush instead of dumb yarn and soft skin (not fuzzy really, but it was a fabric, not cloth like Cabbage Patches). They also had jewel-like eyes and you could move their arms and legs. They came with heart-shaped gold lockets for you to wear, and you could also get a picture of your child to fit in the locket

This is my very favorite toy in the whole world and i missed them so much, it brings so very happy and memorable memories about my childhood, i would like the manufacturer to bring them back again for my daughter as an excuse to me to buy them again.

I remember Christmas of 1986, I begged my parents for a My Child. I specified that she had to have a yellow dress on, and dark brown hair and brown eyes, to look just like me. Through some miracle, they found that EXACT doll, and my Christmas was made! I loved her very much...until one fateful day when my mom threw a bag of toys out that we had, thinking it was trash. I lost my My Child, my Rainbow Brite, my original Cabbage Patch doll, and mine and my brother's Popples. all our 80's toys were gone.

I still have one, she's naked now but in pretty good shape. Short dark brown hair and blues eyes. I loved this doll so much. This site is reminding me how much of a dork I am :)

I was also given one for Christmas in 86. I named her Abby. She is a brunette US topknot and I still have her. About 2 years ago I 'rediscovered' her in the cupboard and my passion for collecting begun. I now have over 70 dolls and have restored all of them. I ADORE these dolls and they are so durable and easy to restore. So much cuter than Cabbage Patch Dolls.

I still have My child...it is a red haired boy. It still has the clothes...beige shorts with a sweater. It does not have shoes anymore, don't know what happened to them. I got it from Christmas probably in 86 too, just like Paula above. I guess that was the last one my parents found. I actuallu did not care about it even with TV commercials, but when I got it that x-mas, it was my most cherished toy!!!

I still have my My Child doll. My mother gave it to me for christmas one year when they ran out of Cabbage Patch Kids. I couldn't wait to open it either. I named her Sarah and she has blonde hair and brown eyes. I still love her even 20 years afterwards.

My mom got me one for my 6th birthday, that had dark brown curly hair and blue eyes, just like me!! I remember there was this special offer where you could send away for a My Child locket, which came with a sheet of heart-shaped photos of all the different My Child dolls, and you were supposed to put in the photo of the doll that looked most like yours. It was awesome!
Elissa - October 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Holy crap I had one of these and I'd totally forgotten about it! I loved her to death back in the day...she had blondish hair and a cute little pink dress. I remember her skin started to get dirty after a while from all of the love, especially her nose.

I had a My Child lunch box when I was little, but couldn't rememeber what they were called. I've been searching 80's websites and this is the first time I ever found it.

My Heather was, and still is, my all time favorite toy. I got her as a gift from my parents when we moved cross country. She still has her yellow footed jammies, with just one fuzzy slipper. =( She came with a pink teddy and bib that are lost. I found another doll at a flea market a few years ago and just recently bought one off e-bay for my daughter. These dolls are gorgeous, soft, posable, hair is fixable. They've got it all! I wish they would start producing them again. You just can't find anything like these in stores nowadays. I also have the pink cat that I picked up at a garage sale.

My parents were also able to find a doll that looked exactly like me at the time. Pale, very long and curly brown hair, and light brown eyes. I have a birthmark under my right eye, and my dad painted the doll's face to give her the same mark. I was gobsmacked that Christmas. This was my most favorite "baby" doll.

I am hoping that the search in my parents attic will bring home Michelle Mary. I packed her up when I got married and have yet to find her. Hoping I didn't throw the bag out by mistake. This was my all time favorite doll.

These were soooo sweet! They were so soft, and had such a gentle blush, beautiful eyes. Mine had soft black curly hair and a lavender dress, bloomers too I think. She was beautiful. Oh, I miss her and now I want one!

I love my doll she was my favorite one out of all my baby dolls. I still have mine, she is a little rough missing an eye but to me she is still beautiful. I have a 2 year daughter and now she play her. My mom was laughing at me because I even took her with me to college and I finally decided to hand it down to my child. I never thought I could be so attached to a baby doll.

I remember seeing these in stores in '86 and '87. I wanted a brunette side part boy w/ brown eyes. I asked my mom to please get him for me. He had shorts a tie and white lace up shoes. I never got him, instead she bought me a poseable CPK. I tried to return him for the My Child but the store had completely run out of stock. Nonetheless my CPK Bruno became my fave toy for a long time.
Ornery - May 04, 2009 - Report this comment
My Child dolls are so much cuter than CPKs. I still have mine with blond pigtails and hazel eyes, with a peachy complexion. I loved my My Child because even though she didn't look like me she looked like a boy I had a crush on at the time.

I got one of these for my birthday, I told my parents it HAD to have brown hair & eyes so it would look like me. They were so soft. I just found it in my parents attic a few years ago, unfortunately I let my youngest daughter have it to play with, and I guess she decided that she needed "emergency surgery" and a hair cut.... what a bummer!

This was my favorite doll ever. It was meant to be that you matched it to your own hair colour, eye and skin colour. I however wanted one in a sleeper suit so mine was blonde hair brown eyes. My sleeper suit was lemon with baby pink trim. The doll had tiny pigtails and i took them out and they were never the same again so I cut the hair (trying to fix it. I had her for years with cut hair. I eventually cleaned her and cut all her hair off she now has a wig from Blithe dolls. she has a new outfit and is on display in my room. I love her.

I too had a my child with a yellow dress and brown curly hair and light brown eyes. I LOVED that doll. I got her for my 8th birthday and thought she was amazing. I left her one day in her "high chair" in our chicken house that was converted to a club house and it rained and she got ruined because of her "skin" I was so sad. :(

I got a My Child doll for Christmas when I was 11. I thought she was the most beautiful doll I'd ever seen, but I always felt so guilty, I was at an age when I was growing out of dolls, and I never played with her much. As a result she is in mint condition. She still has beautiful crimped hair, and pretty blue and white outfit. She is An Australian my child, which are highly collectable. Can anyone tell me where My Child dolls are sold? I've been told they are highly collectable.

I recently decided to go on a hunt to find my childhood My Child dolls in storage. I found them and cleaned them up thanks to the great sites out there. The girl is a US Taiwan ash blonde puppytails with grey-blue eyes in the original blue seersucker outfit with her original shoes/socks. The boy is a curly ash blonde in the original cream sweater set with shoes/socks (I was lucky that I didn't lose the clothes). Granted, his sweater is still in storage. I think it's with extra baby doll clothes... Since I enjoyed fixing them up, I've bought 4 more and fixed up 2. One is getting her hair set and another I'm working on tomorrow. All are US (one's a Taiwan that no one bid on. I felt so bad for her but got her for $19.99 plus shipping in her original dress. And she's a green-eyed redhead. I don't get why no one wanted her). So much prettier than the generic baby dolls of today.

i have 3 My Child certificates from when i was younger. No longer have the dolls, i think my mum gave them to my cousin in the 90s. They have names written on them, but are in excellent condition. What would their value be? Thanks

Today I unearthed my two beautiful Australian My Child's! A blond boy in original outfit, nappy etc and a blond girl with ringlets, hair barrettes, original clothes, shoes, nappy etc. both are as new except dusty .. Never played with (they sat on my bed) and serial numbers both ending HR. Any hints as to their value? And where the best place to sell is? Should I try to clean them first? Thanks!!!
