Description

Orbi was an orange ball with streamer-like strings attached to it. People played catch with it and when they threw it, it went really high and far.

This was the greatest toy. WHen you didn't have this, you would grab a Sedanos bag, fill it with rocks, and use that instead...Heads up!
John-SI - June 03, 2007 - Report this comment
I had one of these. It did go really far, much farther than I could throw a regular ball... at least when I was 8 y/o. I lost it on the roof of my elementary school in SI, NY and was very upset. I never got it back :(

I have an orbi ball and it broke. Really enjoyed it. Would like to find or buy another one but can't seem to find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find another one?
Brian - September 08, 2007 - Report this comment
I was cleaning out my childhood closet the other day...alot of stuff was interesting to find...my eyes lit up when I found my ORBI!!!!! Other then the streamers being a little faded, works just as good as the day I first threw it around. I thought it went far when I threw it as a kid...I bet ya I can "throw this over them mountains over there" now

Wow, I'm so glad I found this page. I used to have an Orbi back in 5th grade (1987). Well I tossed that sucker so far that I lost it in the woods :( Long live Orbi!! Catch the wave!! Oh yeah, I would totally buy one in a heartbeat if given the chance.
Mike M. - December 09, 2007 - Report this comment
Man I miss that toy. Does anybody remember who made it? I'm thinking it was maybe "Wham-O", but I'm not sure.

You were on the commercials Dave? You have to remember who made it and if you can still get one today.
OrbiNoMore - July 02, 2008 - Report this comment
I thought their slogan was "catch the rage," not "catch the wave." Lost mine in a huge pine tree at a park in 1987. I lost the rage.

Anybody know or remember who the manufacturer was? dave, if you were on the box, surely you can remember who paid you for your picture? Marie, the new one you found in your mom's closet, does it have a manufacturer's name on it? Thanks.

I thought orbi was a toy in the 60's that had a wheel on it that had suction cups all around. You would pull a string and place Orbi on a window and it would climb up. Worked on any flat surface

a fall afternoon; the fluorescent orange sphere was hard as ice. I swung the orbi with all my might, and hit my older brother in the face.

We used to play with the ORBI for hours. I would throw it straight up in the air and catch it with my baseball mitt. It really helped my outfield skills. Until one day it got stuck in a tree. It eventually came down...20 years later. I love ORBI!!! This toy should be re-marketed and put back in the stores. Toys today wouldn't stand a chance!!! You just need the right marketing ploy.

I just bought two new Orbi from Ebay. I work with children with special needs. They do not make toys like this any more, toys that really get people wanting to go out and play. I can not wait for warmer weather to go back out!

I love how we all lost them the same way... somewhere UP HIGH! Mine was on the roof of my neighbor's house in Miami... I remember looking for it when they bulldozed the home and again after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. No Orbi! =(

I still have my orbi. I remember when they first came out. My husband and I went to Toys-R-Us and played with it in the store, sold many for them that way. Played with it for hours in the parking lot of the local McDonald's. The best toy ever. So glad I still have mine and can play with it today.

I ended up finding one new in the box a few months ago. It was one of my favorite childhood toys! I have many of them over the years and they always got stuck on a roof or in a tree. Last night I finally took it out of the box and went to the large field in our neighborhood and played catch with my 11 y/o son. That was such a great feeling! I wish I would have opened it sooner, the memories from looking at the box and holding it are good, but nothing compared to playing with it again with your children! If you have one, get out and play with it!

I loved this toy when I was younger and would like to find one again. I check on the internet every so often, but no luck. No one understands how much fun it was or how far it would go unless you've experienced it. My roommate took it camping and got it stuck in a tree, so no more orbi. I was mad!

I just found my orbi after about 25 years of storage. I brought it to the beach tonight and wife got it stuck in palm tree. She felt so bad she even asked the firefighters across the street for help. A stranger eventually helped us get it back. I love this toy.

this toy was so cool and fun in the neighborhood i grew up in we used it for many things 2 come to mind one was 500 and the other was at the city pool we would have some one stand on the side of the pool while we jumped off the diving board and it was like 500 but in the water and jumping off a diving board. wow I am 32 now and miss them days. since the company folded another company should re make this. kids today need to be outside and not on their computers or ps3's. orbi was some good clean fun for kids and them days need to come back.

As noted above, Murray Cymbler invented the Orbi. He originally called it the Astro-stream, hence the name of the corporation that produced it, but "Orbi" was more catchy and marketable. Mr. Cymbler, Mr. Singer along with my dad formed the AstroStream Corporation. I was a teenager at the time, but I remember being excited about being a shareholder. Anyway, for whatever reason, the Orbi never replaced the frisbee and the idea and company was short-lived. Eventually the corporation sold the rights to Wham-O or somebody. I still have a few Orbis around the house...lost quite a few in the Georgia pines over the years..my kids and any other kid that has ever seen one and played with one absolutely love it. That's why it mystifies me why it never took off...no pun intended! ;-)

I bought two on ebay from the original manufacturer. They were errors - all the ribbons were the same color, so they were never boxed. I paid 88 for the two....no box. I've seen them go over 100 - just depends on how many people see it and who wants it most.

I still have the one my sister and I had as kids. Brought to beach today still flies! The nephews loved it. Plastic ring that holds ribbon did wear and break today but thing ribbon on seems to work. Amazed these haven’t been 2nd Gen at any point. This toy was such a niche trend.
