I had one of these when I was 5. she scared me and my mom because we didn't know that if you didn't say anything to her for about five minutes, she said bye-bye. And right at the moment that I got up to go to the bathroom and she said bye-bye. We almost burned her til we looked at the instruction manual and saw that was part of her program. LOL

I had this doll! Can't remember when I got her, but she was definately my favorite. I had every book that went with her. Remember they came with stickers that you could place in the book and kinda create a story there. That was cool. I still have her, or my mom does anyway. Recently took a picture of my son (2) sitting with her like she was his girlfriend. It was so cute!!

Pamela! She was my favorite doll growing up. This was mostly because she scared my brother and numerous cousins. They found her talking creepy. I have her to this day, sitting on a pot-shelf in my childhood bedroom. My cousins are all grown up, but she still scares them. When I was a teenager, I tried brushing out her hair. My efforts unfortunately went to waste. Pamela's hair is now in two very puffy, nasty pigtails.

I got Pamela for Christmas I think in 1987. She was AMAZING. You could get those expansion sets that came with an outfit, sticker book (with those plastic cling stickers), and a little electronic card to stick in her back so she'd say different stuff. I had "Pamela goes camping" and "Pamela goes out to eat" or whatever they were called. The outfit for the camping one was a purple sweatsuit with magenta trim and the going out to eat one was a fancy dress, red velvet or something. They came with shoes and everything. Pamela was so great. Her hair was a real problem though. It got really tangled and puffy.

Does anybody have any suggestions for combing out her tangly matted-looking hair?

I was 4 and I asked Santa for a 'Pamela Doll', not knowing that they existed. When I opened up the box and saw her on Christmas morning, I thought that he had made her just for me!
Makayla - August 14, 2008 - Report this comment
Haha! I know exactly what you all mean about the hair. I tried to fix her hair and it ended up all matted. I had her until the fateful day I decided she needed a bath.

I got my Pamela doll for my 17th (1987)birthday from my boyfriend at the time. Pamela was packed away for 18yrs. She now resides in my daughters bedroom. Her hair too is a "rats nests". I must have wanted her because of my name also being Pamela.

OMG!!! I totally had this doll and have been searching for her on the web just to bring back memories! I got her for my 6th birthday...and mine too has a rats nest full of hair! It's like plastic hair or something and cannot be combed out! I'm sure we have all tried...I still have mine too! so cool to see her again!

I remember the wierd bye bye thing happening when we were pulling out of our driveway. Was freaky, yeah her hair was a big problem. I still wish I had her though. She was the best doll even with the nasty hair. 80's toys rocked.
bobosmom - January 02, 2009 - Report this comment
The hair can be rinsed with downy fabric softner .I've used it on several dolls.

This was so my favorite doll growing up and everyone knew it. She did freak me out sometimes too with the random talking. I wish I still had her. I remember one story about her getting ready for bed and she had a pajama set to go with it. What a cool doll!

My dad got this for me even though it was probably way too expensive for him. He has always loved "gadgets" and I suppose this doll excited him b/c of what she could do. Plus, he probably felt it was "meant to be" because my name is Pamela. I didn't even know she existed, he just showed up one day with the doll, ALL of the outfits, and ALL of the cartridges and playbooks with the stickers. I was only 3 or 4 when I got her, but I played with her for many years, and still have her along with all of her clothes, accessories, and cartridges in the attic. I remember that if you put the "At the beach" cartridge in her back, and you pressed her cheekbone (right below her eye) she would say "THE SUN, IS IN MY EYES". It sounded kind of like the way a robot would say it. EVEN TODAY when my mom and I are in the car and the sun shines in the windshield one of us will sometimes say "The sun, is in my eyes", just like the doll used to say it. It is fun.

I don't have the doll or the box anymore but I have papers that came in the box with her ("world of wonder" brochure, 90 day guarantee, and rebate offer. If anyone wants them, they can have them if it's not too expensive to mail them.

Hello Ladies, I quess I am a lucky girl. I stopped by an auction and bought a lovely doll. I am a tomboy by chance. But it seems I missed out an a lovely doll. I bought Pamela because she looked like she could be a friend to my new grandaughter. Little did I know that she made many friends. The doll I bought has ponytails and the box. The box is a mess but the doll looks wonderful. You ladies are going to die. I bought her for $5.00. She will be cherished by my Grandaughter. Thank you for your lovely words of the doll.

I had a pamela doll when i was little, she was the best thing in the world. "do you want to play?" "tell me a story" awww. one time my mom and i were out yard-saling and we found another pamela doll! we bought her and then i had 2 pamela dolls. they both had the same clothes and i loved them, the one at the yard sale had such better hair than my pamela doll, i think my mom still has them in her house. great memories. my neighbor wanted my pamela doll and i said NO freaking way!

When I was about 6 or 7 my mom got me this doll for Christmas. I have a niece that is just a few years younger than me and she got a teddy bear that repeated what you would say to it but in "bear language" rather that english. We set the two toys in the corner together while we were eating Christmas lunch. They had a full blown conversation. Everytime the Pamela doll spoke, it would trigger the teddy bear to repeat her words, which would trigger Pamela to speak again, and so on. My entire family still laugh about the Christmas the toys were talking to each other.

In the 80s I bought a Pamela doll and all the accessories. I still have the collection and considered selling it, but Pamela's hair has turned brittle! I think I will buy a doll wig! Can anyone suggest a source of doll wigs to match Pamela?

I got My pamela doll when i turned 3. I woke up Christmas morning and she was sitting on a red tricyle. When i was 7 pamela was in a bad fire (who invented wall heaters anyway!!!) so her bangs were singed to the scalp. i never had the cards only the pj set. Until 3 years ago when i found my daughter (who had just turned 3) a Pamela doll with 3 cards and the books and clothes. She plays with mine and hers all the time. Her Pamela was on the swing when it rained one day, but hey she still has her hair!!! I love my pamela and plan on finding another one for when I'm a Nanny. we need to contact the manufacturer about making more. Pamela is way better than any Bratz doll

I wish I had a Pamela..... I collect WoW toys and other toys like Teddy Ruxpin and such. @Heather The idea of a burn-vicim toy certainly creeps me out, as much as I love these toys, I don't think I can be in the same house with her..

My parents got me pamela when they where on holiday in American. I think I must be the only one in England to have one! I still have her even though her hairs a mess, but this was the most amazing doll I ever had, and when my little sister came along I never let her play with pamela. My mum still says I laugh like her! I used to love to talk to her and I have the beach and camping sets, so she had a lot to say! My sister got one of those amazing Amy tea party doll, and with all her technology she still was nothing compared to pamela, and her eyes are dead creepy!

Oh my goodnes!! I loved my Pamela doll. I had wanted her so badly for Christmas, and looking back I KNOW my parents couldn't afford it, but they got her for me anyway. I would spend hours talking to her and reading the books. I remember the beach one 25 years later like it was yesterday.

I have this doll. She is still in her original clothing, but no socks and shoes. Been trying to get her repaired. Some of the cloth on the body has torn away from the neck. She even still talks. She was my absolute favorite baby to play with. Now my lil girl wants her lol.

I gave my daughter Pamela the Pamela doll when she was a little girl. Our daughter was born in 1980 & I've always thought she was an angel. I made her Thanksgiving dress when she was 19 months old out of all her baby dresses. This dress now is on her Pamela doll. Last night I held her doll in my arms and cried myself to sleep. You see....my Pamela passed away less then a year ago (7-15-11) @ the age of 31 years old, suddenly of a brain aneurysm, was only married 10 1/2 months. Thank you Pamela dolly for comforting me last night, love Pam's mom, Anny annysmithapple@yahoo.com I'd love to hear all of your loving stories about your doll, feel free to email me & thanks kindly :)

My Parents lots everything i grew up with in a storage scam when i was around eleven. my childhood was in that storage, but a few months later they found a stray box in a random spot and on top, was my beloved Pamela doll. i cried and she was on my bed until i was a teenager, i still have her original overalls, but i think the shirt got lost along the way, today we were cleaning out the garage, and look who was on the top of a box i packed when i moved out... now my daughter, the same age i was when i got her, can't put her down. ♥

This is seriously the best message board ever! I love reading everyone's stories about Pamela! I got one when I was young, probably for Christmas or a birthday. My best friend at the time got one as well and we would always have them with us when we played! I just found mine a couple years ago and to my delight, she still worked! I have been on Pinterest and it says that a mixture of fabric softener and water in a little spray bottle will do the trick to smooth out her hair. I know I had cards with her, but I've since lost them all and only had her red velvet dress. But I went online and found two other outfits (pink sweat suit and pajamas with pillow) and ordered them. I also found three cards online that were a good price, so I've ordered them as well! I love that so many people are sharing their wonderful memories!!

I found this doll in the basement of a house I bought, just the doll and the overalls outfit, socks and shoes too (AND the ratty hair!). I was startled when she talked to me, and that's when I saw the name on the bib of her overalls, the same as my little sister's name (we're in our 50s now), so all that combined to interest me in the doll and I am here to find some information. I can say that I would have been thrilled to have this doll when I was little, but we had the Mattel talking dolls (Chatty Cathy and Chatty Baby) that had the pull string on the neck, nothing as amazing as this Pamela is. I love the story about the toys talking to each other; I'll have to find another talking doll and try that.
