I had a Petster! I made my parents buy it for me at FAO Schwarz...I probably played with it 10x and then grew tired of it...I don't remember it being cheap either which annoyed my mother quite a bit.

I remember getting my cat petster (were they all cats??) Anyway I got it for Christmas one year and I didn't play with it much, it was a little difficult for a kid, I got frustrated.

I had a dog similar to this toy, I just can't remember if it was a petster or not.

The precurser to the Furby, Aibo, Poo-Chi, Tamagotchi and other modern day electronic pets. Robbi, the dog you mentioned was probably a petster. In addition to cats they had dogs, spiders, penguins, hamsters and dinosaurs.

What exactly did they do? i remember having a stuffed animal that had weird light up eyes, i looked at the chubbles too to see if that was it...i don't remember them looking like either of those...maybe it's just my memory but i remember them being freaky looking...

Petster was one of my favorite childhood toys! I played with it a ton, it fascinated me. I loved that it "talked" back. RRRRR rrr cheep chowrl! I loved that you could get it to do "tricks" when you clapped a certain pattern. I loved that I got it to chase my sister and it freaked her out.

I had the cat! It didn't look like that one above though, the face was part of the body. You clapped a certain number of times to make it come to you, go away, purr etc. It got all messed up eventually though - the wheels wouldn't turn correctly so it just spun in jerky little circles. They were about $50 I think, which was a lot in the 80s...I loved that thing!!

The Petster dog is one of the four 80s toys that had I actually had them back in the day would have improved my childhood greatly. The others being Talking Wrinkles, Feelin' Special Dog and Tomy Spotbot. From what I've read the dog is different from the cat in that instead of responding to claps as the cat did he instead was operated by remote control. Also the dog did not come in a deluxe version as the cat did. There is also a much rarer Petster dog that made appearances in the Sears Christmas catalog. I want that one too, but I am not sure as to how it differs from the regular Petster dog.

Someone just donated a Petster cat to our church rummage sale. I am trying to locate a manual to find out what it does and find out if it is worth anything to a collector.
